Mr. CEO's Substitute Bride
Chapter 1528 - 1520: Wherever My Gaze Falls, There Lies Eternity: Sister-in-law, Why Do You Still Make People Worry?
Violet Zimmerman should have avoided it, but thinking of the purpose of her visit, she could only stiffen her body as the young man’s slender fingers fell on her eyelids. Joseph Lancaster checked up and down, his expression serious, frowning and talking to himself.
"Have there been cases of conjunctivitis recently? Why are both eyes red?"
Violet felt very anxious inside, she could even hear her heart pounding incessantly.
Her eyes were red from crying; after returning home, she locked herself in her room and cried for an entire afternoon, missing dinner at the old master’s place.
"Sis, are you feeling unwell? At dinner, my brother said you’re under the weather. Is it because of this?"
"Mm," Violet responded perfunctorily; she didn’t know if it was her mind playing tricks or if Joseph Lancaster’s fingers were genuinely hot, scorching her eyes with acidity, making her want to cry.
"Sis, I have some eye ointment in my room. Come upstairs and I’ll help you apply some."
After speaking, Joseph Lancaster turned and walked towards the stairs, noticing Violet still standing there, he held the railing smiling and said, "Sis, hurry up and come upstairs, or your eyes will turn into rabbit eyes without the ointment!"
After hesitating for a moment, Violet steeled herself and followed him up, with every step on the stairs her heart beating uneasily.
Entering the room, Joseph quickly walked to the desk and opened the drawer, while Violet stopped at the doorway due to her uneasiness.
Joseph retrieved the eye ointment, and seeing her still standing at the door, quickly walked over, grabbed her wrist in urgency, and pulled her inside.
"Sis, why are you dawdling at the door? You’re a grown woman, how can you still make people worry!"
The young man’s reproach had an undertone of care, making Violet’s emotions indescribable. Passively, she followed Joseph to the bed, feeling the warmth on her shoulder as he pressed her to sit on the bed.
Without any hesitation, Joseph Lancaster opened the eye ointment cap and squeezed some onto his fingertips, using his slender fingers to gently hold open Violet’s eyes, carefully applying it.
After applying one, he didn’t forget to instruct, "Sis, close your eyes."
Violet closed one eye, and Joseph opened the other, cautiously applying the ointment under Violet’s gaze.
While screwing the ointment cap back on, Joseph gave instructions.
"Sis, close your eyes and rest for a while."
Violet bit her lip and reached her hands forward.
"Joseph, I’m kind of scared."
Joseph Lancaster was about to return the ointment, but hearing Violet’s words, he was first taken aback, then smiled.
"Sis, you’re truly amusing, you’re not a child anymore, what’s there to be afraid of!"
...
After hesitating for a moment, Violet nervously found an excuse.
"I’m just not accustomed; I get scared closing my eyes somewhere unfamiliar." Joseph hesitated briefly, placing the ointment on the bedside table and sitting beside Violet, taking her extended hands and holding them tightly, asking.
"Sis, do you feel safe now?"
When their hands clasped, Violet’s heart thudded as if something heavy fell on it, her heartbeat accelerated, pounding incessantly.
Nervousness was overwhelming, her hands felt as if they’d been electrified, wanting to retract but unable, wanting to curl them up yet held tightly by Joseph.
Violet even felt that her palms were already sweating.
