Chapter 238: Chapter 237: So That’s Your Type

The student was startled and instinctively took two steps back, completely panicked. He froze for two seconds, then turned and ran, holding his phone up to search for a signal as he went.

The note Gu Qingyin had given him was soaked through, the writing blurred and illegible. Fortunately, he had a good memory and had memorized the number after a quick glance.

But he trudged from place to place, and the phone signal remained on its last legs. Finally, it disappeared altogether, leaving just an X where the bars should be.

"Damn it!"

The student cursed, feeling a wave of despair. ’How long can a person survive after being swept into such a rapid current?’ As he thought about it, tears started to well up in his eyes.

Just then, several beams of light shone from the distance.

He squinted and saw a group of fully-equipped people. ’Is that... a rescue team?!’

His eyes lit up. He waved his arms and shouted, "Help! Someone fell into the water!"

The rescue team immediately split into two groups. One came over to get the details, while the other proceeded to the campsite as planned to meet the other students.

After understanding the situation, the rescue team immediately took out their equipment and began searching downstream along the riverbank.

The student breathed a sigh of relief and returned to the main group, preparing to evacuate down the mountain under the escort of the rescue personnel.

When everyone had gathered, the student’s brow furrowed again. "Where’s Lin Xiao?"

Everyone looked at each other, but no one spoke. After the farce during the day, no one had paid any attention to Lin Xiao. The situation just now had been chaotic, and everyone was only looking out for themselves; they certainly hadn’t been worrying about Lin Xiao.

The student turned back and went inside Lin Xiao’s tent to check.

Unlike the other tents, Lin Xiao’s was very clean, with almost no clutter. It didn’t look like anyone had slept in it. Lin Xiao had probably left the mountain long ago.

A member of the rescue team came over to look and reached the same conclusion.

The student felt relieved. The group finally began to move down the mountain.

They were heading "down the mountain," but the path was treacherous, and conditions at the bottom were unknown. In the event of a mudslide, going all the way down would be even more dangerous. Therefore, their actual destination was the villa on the mountainside.

Not to mention the Arrays Dongfang Lingjun had layered upon it, the various reinforcements and disaster prevention measures implemented when the villa was first built were enough to make it the safest possible shelter.

The camping college students knew there was a manor on the mountainside, and they knew it was private property. Though curious, they had never gone near it. They never imagined they would end up entering it this way.

"Did the owner here agree to let us in?" the student asked in a low voice.

The rescuer smiled. "We’re all from the villa. We came up the mountain because we received orders to do so."

The student was stunned.

After taking off their now-useless raincoats, the group entered the living room, soaking wet. When they saw Gu Qingyin and Huo Yunjing, they were both shocked and overjoyed.

After a terrifying night, the sight of Gu Qingyin’s not-quite-familiar face was the last straw, and the college students’ eyes welled up with tears.

"From now on, you’re our real big sister!"

"You’ve given us a second chance at life!"

"Our savior!"

Gu Qingyin didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, but she didn’t want to stop them from venting their emotions.

Yes, after being wound up so tight, people unconsciously find ways to release their pent-up panic. All their goofy antics and exaggerated words were just a way to vent; they would be fine once they got it out of their systems.

Once the living room quieted down, Gu Qingyin clapped her hands. "Guest rooms are ready. Why don’t you all go up, take a hot bath, and get some rest."

The group thanked her profusely once again.

Gu Qingyin smiled. "Don’t thank me. I’m just a guest here myself. You can properly thank the owner when you meet him tomorrow."

The students nodded and, one by one, followed Housekeeper Qiu to the guest rooms.

Huo Xingchen relaxed and, after everyone had left, couldn’t help but let out a big yawn.

Gu Qingyin picked up her son and gave him a kiss. "Let’s go to bed too."

"Mhm," Huo Xingchen replied in a sweet, childish voice, closing his eyes as he rested his head on his mother’s shoulder.

The heavy rain lasted for a full three hours. During that time, the rescue team searched in shifts, finally finding the girl near a large tree on the mountainside.

She was unconscious, but she’d been lucky. Her raincoat had snagged on a protruding tree root, leaving her lying on her back on the roots. She had choked on some water, but she was still alive.

There was a bit of a commotion when she was brought back. The other college students, who had been worried about their classmate, heard the noise and all came running downstairs.

The villa’s doctor administered emergency treatment, and the girl’s condition stabilized. Once the rain let up a bit, the rescue team carried her to a helicopter and sent her directly to the hospital, accompanied by two other girls.

The chaotic night passed. As dawn broke, the tightly closed door to the study finally opened.

Gu Ziqian came out first, followed by Dongfang Lingjun, Huo Yunjing, and Zhang Qiuyan. The latter casually pulled the door shut, her eyes still glinting with contemplation. She had truly learned a great deal from observing for the past day and night.

The group hadn’t eaten in a day, so they headed straight for the dining room after coming downstairs, running right into Gu Qingyin and the college students.

Both sides froze for a moment.

In the end, it was Gu Qingyin who broke the silence, smiling as she introduced the two groups to each other.

When the students learned that Dongfang Lingjun was the owner of the villa, they naturally showered him with another round of thanks.

Dongfang Lingjun expressed his concern after hearing about the previous night’s events, then offered some comforting words with a smile. "Now that you’ve overcome this hurdle, good things are sure to follow." He beckoned to everyone. "Please, sit and eat. It’s been a long time since this place was so lively. It’s wonderful to be young."

The college students were a bit reserved at first, but after a few minutes, seeing how kind and welcoming the old gentleman was, they relaxed and began sharing amusing stories about their school.

Dongfang Lingjun listened with great interest, asking a follow-up question from time to time as if he were genuinely captivated.

After breakfast, the students left to go down the mountain.

Gu Qingyin and Dongfang Lingjun stood at the door to see them off. Once they were far in the distance, Gu Qingyin said, "I’m sorry for disturbing your peace and quiet."

Dongfang Lingjun waved his hand dismissively. "Think of it as helping me accumulate good karma. It’s a good thing." He waved his hand again. "I’m getting old. I can’t handle pulling an all-nighter anymore. I need to go back and get some sleep. We can discuss the matter of the Arrays this afternoon." ℴℴ𝘮

Gu Qingyin stepped forward, took Dongfang Lingjun by the arm, and escorted him back to his room.

When she came out, she found that Huo Yunjing and Gu Ziqian had each gone to rest. Only Zhang Qiuyan was there, keeping the recently awoken Huo Xingchen company as he ate.

Gu Qingyin walked over and sat down. "You should get some sleep too. We have a busy afternoon ahead of us."

Zhang Qiuyan didn’t try to act tough. She nodded with a smile, then waved to Huo Xingchen. "See you this afternoon, Xingchen."

With his mouth full, Huo Xingchen could only crinkle his eyes into a smile and wave back.

After Zhang Qiuyan left, Gu Qingyin looked thoughtfully at her son. "You like her a lot, don’t you?"

Huo Xingchen nodded, swallowed the food in his mouth, and said, "She’s very gentle."

Gu Qingyin had a moment of realization. "Oh, so that’s your type."
