Chapter 219: Chapter 218: Not Rebirth

Lin Xiao’s heart sped up. "You and Jingchuan..."

Gu Qingyin smiled. "We’re back to being friends. If you mind, we can be strangers. That’s fine too. I’ll just tell my godmother about it when I’m discharged."

"That’s not what I meant!" Lin Xiao grew anxious. She knew all too well how much Mrs. Zhou valued Gu Qingyin. If Mrs. Zhou found out that Gu Qingyin was drawing a line with Zhou Jingchuan because of her, it would be even harder for her to marry into the Zhou Family.

At that thought, Lin Xiao’s eyes reddened again. She looked at Zhou Jingchuan, her expression pitiful. "I didn’t mean for you two to draw a line."

Zhou Jingchuan subconsciously moved to defend Lin Xiao, just as he had countless times before. But before he could even turn his head and speak, Gu Qingyin let out a gasp.

"Is there a switch on your eyes? The tears come on command—it’s incredible! What a shame you’re not an actress." Gu Qingyin shook her head, clucking her tongue as if lamenting a terrible waste of talent.

Lin Xiao’s expression almost cracked. ’Is Gu Qingyin implying that I’m acting?’

"Gu Qingyin!" Zhou Jingchuan’s face darkened. "I know you have a problem with Xiao Xiao..."

Gu Qingyin feigned surprise. "I don’t even know her. What problem could I possibly have? Or... did she do something in the past that would make you think I’d have a problem with her?"

Zhou Jingchuan was at a loss for words. He stubbornly retorted, "Xiao Xiao is just concerned about you."

"Thanks, but no thanks." Gu Qingyin smiled. "You should focus more on yourself instead of always staring at others."

Lin Xiao was in a daze. Gu Qingyin was being passive-aggressive with her! It seemed unbelievable. ’Can someone’s personality change just because they lose their memory?’

Zhou Jingchuan’s face turned completely black. "I actually pitied you for losing your memory and wanted to take care of you, but now I see you don’t deserve it at all! You’re just as ungrateful and annoying as ever."

Gu Qingyin blinked and let out a nonchalant "oh." "Then why haven’t you left yet?"

Zhou Jingchuan snorted and grabbed Lin Xiao, about to storm out.

Lin Xiao feigned concern, struggling slightly. "Sister Gu is still sick..."

Her words were met with Zhou Jingchuan’s low, angry shout: "Don’t worry about her!"

And with that, the farce was officially over.

Gu Qingyin pouted. As she searched for a variety show, she muttered, ’Empty vessels make the most noise...’

’No wonder the original owner committed suicide. This scumbag and bitch must have been a huge reason why. You either erupt in silence or die in silence. The original owner just made the wrong choice.’

’It would be fine if we never met again, but if they dare to show up and disgust me like this...’ Gu Qingyin sneered. ’Then they can’t blame me for being ruthless.’

Gu Qingyin giggled foolishly while sipping her congee and watching the variety show. But her laughter soon faded into a sigh as she became lost in thought.

’If I want to go back, I first need to figure out where I am.’

’I’ve checked before. The time here is three years behind my original world. That, combined with my current identity, is enough to prove that I’m no longer in my original spacetime.’

’To return from a parallel universe, I need to find a channel connecting the spacetimes. This isn’t something that can be done quickly. The most convenient way would be to use the power of the Xuan Technique Association.’

After two days of observation, Gu Qingyin was discharged from the hospital. She didn’t ask Zhou Jingchuan to pick her up. Instead, she found the number saved as "Godmother" in her phone and called it directly.

A very gentle and affectionate female voice came from the receiver. "Yinyin, your godmother was just about to call you! Your godfather is back from his business trip and brought you a gift. Come over for dinner tonight, okay? Are you at home? I’ll have the driver come pick you up."

Gu Qingyin raised an eyebrow, surprised that Zhou Jingchuan hadn’t told his mother about her hospitalization. ’I have amnesia. There’s no way to hide this,’ she thought.

"Um... I’m at the hospital. You can have the driver pick me up from City Second Hospital."

Sheng Wan instantly grew anxious, her questions tumbling out. "You’re sick? Did the test results come back? Is it serious?"

Gu Qingyin cleared her throat and explained what had happened. She recounted the events exactly as they occurred—no concealment, no exaggeration, just a completely objective narration.

Including the things Lin Xiao had said when she came to her hospital room.

Sheng Wan’s breathing grew ragged as she listened. When she spoke again, her voice was choked with emotion and heartache. "My poor Yinyin, you’ve suffered so much. Wait at the hospital, your godmother is coming to take you home right now."

Gu Qingyin replied obediently.

On the other end, Sheng Wan hung up, her expression instantly turning icy. She dialed Zhou Jingchuan’s number as she walked out, her voice a complete contrast to her face—utterly gentle.

"Son, didn’t you say last time that there was someone you liked? Your father is coming home today, so why don’t you bring her over for dinner?"

Zhou Jingchuan was pleasantly surprised. "Mom, you’re willing to accept Xiao Xiao?" The last time he had vaguely mentioned it to his mother, he’d gotten an earful. He never expected her to come around after just a short while.

"Yes, just bring her over so we can meet her," Sheng Wan said, her face cold but her voice soft. "Mom has to go out for something right now. We’ll talk more tonight."

"Okay, Mom. You go ahead." The delight in Zhou Jingchuan’s voice was obvious.

A surge of anger rose in Sheng Wan’s chest. She couldn’t stop herself from asking, "Jingchuan, is there anything you need to tell me?"

Zhou Jingchuan paused. "Nothing, really. Everything’s been fine lately."

"That’s good, then," Sheng Wan replied softly before hanging up abruptly. The dark fury in her eyes, however, was about to spill over.

An hour later, the door to Gu Qingyin’s hospital room was pushed open. A woman with short hair walked in, dressed in a sharp business suit and ten-centimeter heels. She exuded an incredibly powerful aura.

Gu Qingyin blinked, immediately closed the matching game on her phone, and stood up obediently. "You are?"

The fierce and beautiful woman’s eyes immediately reddened. She strode forward and swept Gu Qingyin into her arms.

"It’s only been a few days, how did you get so thin? And you even landed yourself in the hospital! Is there anything you can’t tell your godmother? You poor child... you really break my heart."

"Godmother?" Gu Qingyin pretended to nuzzle her head against the beautiful woman’s shoulder. "It’s okay. I’ve forgotten all the unhappy things from before. It’s actually kind of nice. From now on, I’m just going to live however it makes me happy."

Sheng Wan’s heart ached even more upon hearing this. She hugged Gu Qingyin tighter. "From now on, no one is allowed to bully my precious Yinyin, not even Zhou Jingchuan!"

Gu Qingyin nodded, but inside, she was growing more and more confused. ’With a godmother this protective, why was the original owner so intent on giving up?’

Gu Qingyin had assumed they would go straight back to the Zhou Family home, but instead, Sheng Wan took her to the city’s most luxurious mall for a shopping spree.

The justification was to "wash away the bad luck," which required a complete head-to-toe, inside-and-out renewal.

Gu Qingyin had no room to refuse. When an elder shows their love, of course you have to accept it all!

By the time they left the mall, Gu Qingyin was a completely new person.

Her original long, straight black hair was now a wavy bob. The bland, unremarkable long dress was replaced with a modern, Chinese-style camisole dress with a slim, asymmetrical cut. The comfortable canvas sneakers on her feet were swapped for leather boots.

To complete the ensemble, Gu Qingyin had even put on some rare makeup. With a swipe of bright red lipstick, her presence was off the charts!

Sheng Wan gazed at her, her eyes shimmering with tears. "My Yinyin is truly reborn."

Gu Qingyin tilted her head and smiled, thinking to herself, ’Not a rebirth. Just a replacement.’
