Chapter 217: Chapter 216: Soul Extracted

"Gasp!"

Sucking in a sharp breath, Gu Qingyin shot upright. Everything before her was completely unfamiliar.

It was a bedroom, decorated in a vintage European style. Every detail exuded refinement. It was a bit smaller than her original bedroom, but it still had an en-suite bathroom and a walk-in closet.

But Gu Qingyin had no memory of this place at all. ’Did Huo Yunjing bring me here? What happened after I passed out? Why did I suddenly faint?’

Gu Qingyin sensed her own physical condition, and her expression instantly turned grim.

’This isn’t my body!’

Gu Qingyin scrambled out of bed. Without even stopping to put on shoes, she ran to the walk-in closet. The moment she looked in the mirror, she froze.

The person in the mirror looked about seventy or eighty percent like her, only thinner and a bit more fragile than her original body.

Moreover, she had not a trace of Spiritual Power in this body, and the Soul Mirror was gone. The spiritual connection she shared with Huo Yunjing and Mao Mao was still there, but it was silent and unresponsive.

’What is going on?! How did I suddenly end up in a different body?!’

Gu Qingyin stared at the person in the mirror, her gaze darkening.

’Xian Yu Fei!’

Aside from him, Gu Qingyin couldn’t think of anyone else who would undertake such a thankless task. All she had to do was find her own body, and she could switch back immediately.

But she also knew that by the time she got back, the grudge between Xian Yu Fei and her master would have long been settled. It was even possible that while her soul was being extracted, Xian Yu Fei and Yin Bo were waiting right outside the old residence.

Sighing, Gu Qingyin realized that all she could do now was pray.

Gu Qingyin slowly walked back to the bedroom.

This body was rather weak; her legs were already sore from just those few steps. ’The previous owner was probably a total homebody.’

Just as she finished that thought, Gu Qingyin spotted a small white bottle on the nightstand. A bad feeling rose in her heart. She picked it up and saw that, just as she’d feared, it was a bottle of sleeping pills!

An entire bottle, completely empty!

’No wonder my mouth tastes so bitter,’ she thought. ’This person actually committed suicide! And by the looks of it, she succeeded!’

Gu Qingyin cursed under her breath. She found a cell phone on the bed and, while dialing emergency services, scrolled through a food delivery app to confirm her current address.

In less than half an hour, paramedics rushed in. Gu Qingyin lay down on the stretcher and, feeling completely at ease, drifted back to sleep.

She didn’t see the phone’s screen light up with a call from a contact labeled "Fiancé."

The phone rang several more times, one call after another, until a paramedic in the ambulance finally noticed it. They answered, "Hello, are you a relative of the patient?"

...

Gu Qingyin’s sleep was exceptionally exhausting, filled with a whirlwind of events in her dreams.

Her soul was snatched away, and her body fell into a state of suspended animation. The father and his two sons witnessed the entire process and went mad with grief.

In the end, it was her master who came downstairs and explained the situation, which finally calmed the three of them down.

Then, before they could even properly secure her body, Xian Yu Fei and Yin Bo attacked, a horde of Fierce Ghosts trailing behind them.

Without a single word, the two sides immediately began to fight.

Huo Xingye and Huo Xinghai had no combat abilities, so they huddled in a corner, clutching the pot with the Soul-devouring Flower. Fortunately, they both wore protective Jade Pendants, so they were in no immediate danger.

In the dream, Gu Qingyin had what felt like a god’s-eye view, but she could only watch, frantic with anxiety. Then, in the blink of an eye, the scene changed.

Inside a room permeated with a chilling aura, Gu Qingyin’s body lay within an Ice Coffin, perfectly still, just like a corpse.

Gu Ziqian and Huo Yunjing stood to one side, discussing something with grave expressions. Gu Qingyin couldn’t be bothered with what they were saying; she only wanted to get back into her body as quickly as possible.

Fueled by a burst of momentum, she slammed right into the coffin.

Then, with a loud BANG, Gu Qingyin lost consciousness again before she could even curse.

In the ice chamber, Huo Yunjing seemed to sense something. But after waiting a moment, he lowered his gaze to Gu Qingyin in the Ice Coffin, his eyes filled with disappointment, and murmured in his heart, ’Where in the world did you go...’

「Meanwhile」

Gu Qingyin opened her eyes to a world of white, and the distinct smell of a hospital filled her nostrils.

She stared blankly for a moment, then muttered to herself, "It should be resolved by now..."

"What should be resolved?" a strange man’s voice asked from beside her.

Gu Qingyin assumed it was a doctor, but when she turned her head, she saw a young man in a sharp suit. She frowned slightly and subconsciously read his facial features.

’Hmm... born into wealth and nobility. A pity he’s so stubborn and opinionated. If he doesn’t change his ways soon, he’ll likely die old and alone.’

After her assessment, she noticed a severed red thread on his ring finger. ’Well,’ she thought, ’it’s already set in stone. The world is about to have one more lonely old man.’

Zhou Jingchuan felt uncomfortable all over from her scrutiny. He frowned and asked coldly, "Have you realized your mistake?"

Gu Qingyin wasn’t surprised by his familiar tone. ’He must be an acquaintance of the body’s original owner. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be standing here waiting for her to wake up.’

The problem was, she didn’t have a single one of the original owner’s memories. Besides, the original owner might have already been reincarnated, so she had even less desire to get involved in her past affairs.

Gu Qingyin sighed. "I have amnesia. I don’t know what you’re talking about, and I don’t want to know. Right now, I just want to eat. I’m so hungry my heart is racing."

The satchel she always carried was gone, too. Otherwise, she could have rummaged through it for something to tide her over.

Ignoring the young man in front of her, Gu Qingyin rummaged for her phone. When she turned it on, she discovered a long list of missed calls.

Most of them were from "Fiancé."

Gu Qingyin’s eyes flew wide. "I have a fiancé?!" She shook her head frantically. ’No, no, I have to break this off immediately. Otherwise, I’ll constantly feel like I’m cheating.’

Zhou Jingchuan sneered, waiting to see what kind of act she would put on this time.

Gu Qingyin immediately called the number back.

Zhou Jingchuan pulled the vibrating phone from his pocket and answered.

Gu Qingyin spoke in a rapid-fire burst, "I’ve had a change of heart. I don’t like you anymore. The engagement is off. Don’t contact me again."

As soon as the words were out, she hung up without waiting for the other person’s reaction and let out a sigh of relief.

The original owner had committed suicide, yet this so-called fiancé hadn’t shown up until now.

No matter how she looked at it, Gu Qingyin felt this fiancé was completely unqualified. ’If he’s getting dumped, he’s getting dumped. No need to feel guilty about it.’

Zhou Jingchuan paused, then lowered his phone. He studied Gu Qingyin for a moment with an unreadable expression before turning to leave the room and find her attending physician.

After learning that overdosing on sleeping pills could indeed affect the central nervous system and cause memory loss, Zhou Jingchuan’s expression finally changed.

He stood outside the hospital room for a long time, his mind a chaotic mess, not knowing what to think. He only snapped out of it when a delivery guy walked up carrying a food container.

"I’ll take that."

The delivery guy confirmed his identity and the room number before handing over the food.

Zhou Jingchuan took a deep breath and walked into the room with the takeout.

Gu Qingyin’s eyes lit up as she looked over, but upon seeing it was him, she turned her head away in disappointment.

Zhou Jingchuan had never received such a cold shoulder from Gu Qingyin, and for a moment, he actually felt a bit thrown off.

He paused for two seconds before saying, "Your takeout is here."

Gu Qingyin’s head whipped back around in a flash, her eyes glued to the takeout. "Quick, quick, give it to me! I’m starving to death!"

Zhou Jingchuan let out a soft "Heh," and glanced at the takeout. The receipt showed the total paid: 15.8.

Who would have thought that Zhou Jingchuan, the CEO of the ten-billion-dollar Zhou Family enterprise, couldn’t even compare to a box of takeout that cost less than twenty yuan.
