Chapter 203: Chapter 202: A New Interrogation Method
The young woman with the system was named Shan Jinjin. She was working here part-time; she was actually a recent college graduate looking for a job.
When they got to the company, Gu Qingyin told Huo Xingye about Shan Jinjin. She stressed again and again that if the young woman submitted a resume, he absolutely had to hire her!
’If they accidentally filter her out, won’t my fun be gone? I still want to study the system!’
On the way to the restaurant, Gu Qingyin brought up Shan Jinjin.
The two brothers were both shocked and, at the same time, felt a budding eagerness. ’A system... I really want to see one for myself soon.’
Huo Xingye was especially curious about how Shan Jinjin would go about winning him over.
"If systems exist..." Huo Xingchen let his imagination run wild. "Then do things like rebirth and transmigration exist too?"
Gu Qingyin mused, "So-called transmigration is more like an Evil Ghost snatching a living person’s body, or occupying a corpse that has just died and hasn’t completely lost its vitality."
"As for rebirth... it might be a kind of spiritual awakening, a moment where one glimpses the trajectory of fate and learns about their entire life ahead of time."
"Both scenarios are possible, but the chances are very low."
Huo Xingchen looked on with a sigh of wonder. "I guess art really does imitate life. Otherwise, how would anyone have come up with these concepts in the first place? Someone must have actually experienced them!"
Gu Qingyin remained noncommittal.
"So where do systems fall into all this? A failed attempt to snatch a body, forcing it to cooperate instead?" Huo Xingchen asked.
Gu Qingyin thought for a moment. "That’s one possibility, but I’m more inclined to believe it’s a malevolent Ghost Cultivator who wants to use a person’s fortune to aid their own cultivation, so they seek a human to partner with."
She shrugged. "We’ll have to catch the system to know for sure."
Huo Xingchen rubbed his hands together eagerly. "Mom, when you make your move, you have to take me with you!"
Huo Xingye felt the same way, but since he was the target of the whole scheme, it stood to reason he wouldn’t be left out.
Ever the domineering CEO, he was too reserved to voice this thought.
Forty minutes later, the car arrived at a Sichuan restaurant.
They got out of the car and were led to a private room by the restaurant manager.
"Esteemed guests, shall I have the dishes brought up now?"
Huo Xingye shook his head coolly. "Someone else is coming. You may leave for now."
"You got it. Just ring the bell if you need anything."
Before long, there was a knock, and a blond, blue-eyed man pushed the door open and entered.
Gu Qingyin looked up, a hint of surprise on her face.
’What a coincidence. She barely sees any foreigners all year, and this one happens to be a familiar face—the half-Werewolf they’d seen howling at the moon in the middle of the night during their last trip abroad.’
Chad Rotter paused for a second when he saw Gu Qingyin. He thought she looked familiar but didn’t dwell on it; his target was Huo Xingye.
"Huo!" A huge smile spread across Chad’s face as he strode forward with open arms, about to give Huo Xingye a hug.
Huo Xingye stood up and took a step back, his expression cool. "Good evening. Please, have a seat."
Chad looked hurt. "I thought we were already friends."
"We are highly compatible business partners," Huo Xingye replied, all business. And nothing more.
Chad sighed and relented for the moment. "All right, I’ll keep trying." He pulled out a chair and sat down. "What are we eating today? I know I haven’t been in Huaxia for long, but I’ve already fallen deeply in love with the food. I’m even thinking about settling down here."
"Good taste," Huo Xingye commented.
"See!" Chad grinned again. "Don’t you feel we’re a little closer now?"
"Not at all." Huo Xingye pressed the call button. A waiter knocked and entered. "You can serve the food now," Huo Xingye said calmly.
The waiter acknowledged the order, then left and closed the door.
Chad sighed to himself again. ’A waiter this attentive, and he doesn’t even get tips...’ No one paid him any mind. His gaze shifted, and he finally noticed the other people in the room.
"And these are...?" Chad looked from Gu Qingyin to Huo Yunjing, a puzzled expression on his face. "You two look a little familiar."
Gu Qingyin smiled. "We have indeed met before. On a certain night in May, I had the pleasure of seeing you on a rooftop, facing the moon..."
Before she could finish, Chad’s expression changed drastically. He shot to his feet, the legs of his chair letting out a loud SCREECH as they scraped against the floor.
Chad wasn’t the sharpest knife in the drawer to begin with, and the current situation shocked him so much his mind went completely blank. His only thought was to get out of there, fast.
He spun around and strode toward the door. The private room was large, but he was a tall man with long legs, and he reached the entrance in just a couple of quick strides. Then, he yanked the door.
The simple wooden door didn’t budge.
Refusing to believe it, Chad pulled again with all his might. The veins on the back of his hand bulged, but the door was like it had been fused to the wall. It wouldn’t move.
Chad: ...
A light chuckle came from behind him. Gu Qingyin called out warmly, "You’re already here, what’s the rush to leave? Come on back and take a seat. The food’s about to be served."
Chad’s breath came in ragged gasps. He stood frozen for two seconds before his rigid mind finally started turning again. He knew he wasn’t getting out of here.
Taking a few deep breaths, Chad turned with a grim expression and walked back to his seat.
The moment he sat down, the door to the room opened, and a waiter walked in pushing a food cart.
Chad looked as if he’d seen a ghost. He swore he had used his full strength just now to pull that door. With his power, even a solid wall should have cracked! But for the life of him, he couldn’t get the door open!
’So how come this waiter could open it with a simple push?!’
The waiter gave Chad a baffled look. ’What’s with this foreigner? He’s glaring at me like he wants to tear me to shreds. I don’t think I did anything to offend him, did I?’
The waiter still couldn’t figure it out, even after all the dishes had been served. As he was leaving, he decided to be friendly and gave the foreigner a smile.
Chad: ’!!! Is that waiter mocking me?!!’
With the outsider gone, the atmosphere in the private room grew a little strange.
Gu Qingyin paid it no mind, simply picking up a spoon and scooping half a bowl of spicy chicken for herself. While she was at it, she had Huo Yunjing, who was beside her, get her a bowl of rice.
When Huo Yunjing brought back the rice, he also brought a bowl of corn and pork rib soup. "Have some soup first. You shouldn’t eat something so spicy on an empty stomach."
Gu Qingyin nodded in agreement. She obediently drank half the bowl of soup and had a few bites of rice before finally digging into the spicy chicken.
Seeing this, the two brothers also began to eat.
Chad was left completely ignored, a dazed look on his face. ’What’s going on? How can they just start eating? Aren’t we going to resolve the issue between us first?’
’I get it now,’ he thought. ’They must have found out what I did to Huo Xingye. There’s no way they would have specifically invited me out just because of that one night.’
Chad racked his brain. ’Should I just confess? There’s an old saying in Huaxia: Leniency for those who confess, severity for those who resist.’
’And if it comes to ’severity,’ I’m eighty or ninety percent sure I can’t beat them in a fight. After all, my bloodline hasn’t been successfully purified yet.’
After finishing half her bowl of rice, Gu Qingyin looked up and noticed Chad’s bowl and chopsticks were still clean. She asked in surprise, "Why aren’t you eating?"
Chad hesitantly picked up his chopsticks. After just one bite, the spice made his face flush red.
’Is this some new form of interrogation?! It’s not like I’m refusing to talk—just ask me already!’
