Chapter 187: Chapter 186: Let Me Think Again

The four humans and one ghost stood together, watching the father and son eat without so much as raising their heads. It was as if their group was completely invisible.

"I feel humiliated," Miao Yan said, his voice a low rumble.

Gu Qingyin gave him an indescribable look. "Why don’t you go rest up in the back?"

"It’s not them."

"What?" The others all looked at Huo Yunjing. "We got the wrong ones?"

Huo Yunjing realized his words had been ambiguous. "I mean the master of the Ghost Realm. It’s not them."

Elder Miao stroked his beard. "That’s perfectly normal. They haven’t been dead for long. It would be strange if they could cultivate such a large Ghost Realm this quickly."

Huo Yunjing nodded. "We jumped to conclusions."

Gu Qingyin turned to look at him. "The control...?"

Huo Yunjing smiled faintly, his eyes brimming with supreme arrogance. "In my hands, of course."

Gu Qingyin gave him a thumbs-up. "Awesome!" Her hand gesture then changed, pointing at the gluttonous father and son. "Get them!"

Liu Ergou and Miao Yan were ready to spring into action and were about to rush forward at her words, but Elder Miao stopped them. "Are you two idiots? She wasn’t talking to you."

Just then, with a slight twitch of his fingers, Huo Yunjing made the father and son float into the air. They spun around to face the group, their expressions completely blank.

Gu Qingyin’s heart sank at the sight. ’Have they lost their minds?’

"Do you remember Chen Ling?" she asked tentatively. "Do you know who you are?"

The pair showed no reaction, their faces still vacant.

’It’s over!’ Gu Qingyin thought. ’Is our only lead going to go cold just like that?’

"Can they recover?"

Huo Yunjing manipulated the pair like puppets, flipping them over to inspect them, before reaching a conclusion. "They ate too much. They’ll be fine once they’ve digested it all."

Gu Qingyin breathed a sigh of relief. "So when will they recover?"

Huo Yunjing shook his head. "It’s not clear."

Devouring souls was one of the fastest ways for ghosts to evolve. But, just like this father and son, if a ghost didn’t know restraint, it would quickly lose its sanity and become a mindless puppet, wandering aimlessly on pure instinct.

They would either devour other souls or be devoured themselves.

Since Huo Yunjing had no idea how much they had eaten, he naturally had no idea how long it would take for them to digest it.

"So we’re just supposed to wait?" Liu Ergou looked around. "Are we spending the night in a cemetery?"

"We won’t be just waiting." Huo Yunjing stared into the distant darkness. "Something to help you pass the time is here."

The group looked up to see a cloud of black mist WHOOSH toward them, coalescing into a Ghost Shadow not far away.

It was hazy and difficult to see clearly.

"Hm?" The Ghost Shadow vanished, reappearing right at Huo Yunjing’s side. It leaned in close to his face, acting utterly familiar.

"Well, hello there, handsome," a flirtatious female voice purred from the black mist. "If you wanted control, you could have just told me. For a man as good-looking as you, I never would have refused. Why resort to all this fighting? You’ve hurt me."

Huo Yunjing calmly took a step back, his words laced with venom. "Don’t get so close. You have bad breath."

Gu Qingyin, who had been feeling a bit jealous, couldn’t help but snort with laughter.

The Ghost Shadow froze for two seconds before pulling back, flying into a rage out of sheer embarrassment. "You don’t know what’s good for you!" Subconsciously, she tried to command the Ghost Realm to attack, but it only gave a polite little tremor before going completely still.

The Ghost Shadow froze, only belatedly realizing that the Ghost Realm had a new master. She had literally just said it herself a minute ago but had forgotten the moment she got angry. It was her own fault, really; she’d been in charge for so many years that the habit was hard to break.

But... without the Ghost Realm, how was she supposed to fight?

She was facing four Heavenly Masters and a Ghost Cultivator who could rip control of the Ghost Realm right out of her hands!

After weighing her options, the Ghost Shadow decided to try seduction first. What if she could win the Ghost Cultivator over to her side?

The Ghost Shadow steeled her resolve. The black mist she used to project an imposing and mysterious aura instantly dissipated, revealing a slender, curvaceous figure.

Gu Qingyin took a closer look and couldn’t help but exclaim internally. ’Damn!’

The ghost wore a leather tube top and hot pants, a choker around her neck, two cat ears on her head, and even had a cat tail swishing back and forth behind her!

Her body was hot enough to give any nerd a nosebleed, but her face was the picture of innocence, with large eyes, a small mouth, a delicate nose, and gracefully curved brows.

The contrast was immense! She was a true Demon!

"Handsome," the Demon cooed, batting her eyelashes at Huo Yunjing with a bashful expression. "The first moment I saw you, I knew I liked you so, so much."

Gu Qingyin immediately narrowed her eyes at Huo Yunjing.

Huo Yunjing’s expression remained unchanged as he gave a polite nod. "Thank you, but I’m already in love with someone." He paused before adding, "I love her very much, and I hope we can be together forever."

Satisfied, Gu Qingyin glanced sideways.

Well, what do you know. The other three men were either openly gawking at the Demon or shyly stealing glances. Even Elder Miao, who was getting on in years, wasn’t being particularly reserved.

Gu Qingyin pursed her lips. ’Pathetic!’

The Demon glanced at Gu Qingyin, her face a mask of sorrow on the verge of tears. "I don’t blame you. I only blame cruel fate for letting us meet so late..."

Gu Qingyin sucked in a breath. ’So she’s one of those scheming, innocent-acting types!’

Huo Yunjing cut her off. "It wouldn’t have mattered even if we’d met earlier. I only have eyes for my wife."

Gu Qingyin proudly lifted her chin. ’I believe him. After all, Huo Yunjing was the Ghost King for years in his past life, and he was still a single ghost, wasn’t he?’

’If he hadn’t met me, he would have been doomed to be single his whole life.’

The Demon was choked speechless. Her eyes darted, and she switched targets, turning to Gu Qingyin with a sniffle. "I’m so envious of you, big sister..."

Gu Qingyin held up a hand. "Stop! You’re an old ghost who’s been dead for who knows how many years, and you have the nerve to call me ’big sister’? I get that you want to act all young and cute, but you’re overdoing it!"

The Demon was completely flabbergasted. She turned to leave.

’If you can’t beat them, run!’

"Wait!" Gu Qingyin called out again.

The Demon couldn’t take it anymore. She spun around and roared, "I’m warning you, don’t push it! You’re the ones who came to my turf to make a scene! I haven’t done anything wrong!"

Gu Qingyin blinked innocently. "Don’t get so worked up. I just want to ask you something."

She knew, of course, that this ghost’s cultivation had not been easy and that she had never harmed a human. Otherwise, the previous encounter would have played out very differently.

A flicker of unease crossed the Demon’s face. She turned her head away irritably. "Hurry up, then. Don’t waste my time."

Gu Qingyin took out her phone, found a picture of Chen Ling, and asked, "Have you seen this woman?"

A wisp of black mist snatched the phone away, and it appeared in the Demon’s hand. She studied it closely, frowning. "She looks a bit familiar... I feel like I’ve seen her somewhere..."

Gu Qingyin’s eyes lit up, but she didn’t dare make a sound for fear of disturbing her. She could only cheer her on silently.

Liu Ergou and the other two men also held their breath, afraid of breaking her concentration.

A minute later, the Demon suddenly sighed. "I have seen her. But I can’t remember where."

Gu Qingyin exploded. "Not good enough! Think harder! Do you want this Ghost Realm or not?!"

The Demon scoffed. "You can’t just take it with you, can you?"

Huo Yunjing: "I can."

The Demon: "...I’ll think some more."
