Mommy, Daddy Has Already Regretted It
Chapter 403: Watching the Dogfight Between Claire Yeats and Evan Yeats
Chapter 403: Chapter 403: Watching the Dogfight Between Claire Yeats and Evan Yeats
Old Mrs. Yeats stiffened all over!
Estelle Lockwood gave a half-smile, her tone nonchalant. "Old Mrs. Yeats, you kept saying how much you loved my mother. Yet, you allowed her husband’s work to be stolen and let me be bullied. Even if Claire and Evan are your grandchildren, my mother was also your ’daughter,’ wasn’t she?"
She didn’t care what Old Mr. Yeats actually thought. However, since Old Mrs. Yeats had used her mother’s name to build a good reputation for herself, then she should keep up the act to the very end!
"Old Mrs. Yeats, could you give me an explanation?"
Old Mrs. Yeats turned deathly pale. Trembling all over, she pointed a shaking finger at Estelle. "You, you..."
Estelle raised an eyebrow. "Yes, me?"
Eleanor... Eleanor Yeats was exactly like this back then! She was clearly just a deadweight, yet they insisted on keeping her in the house. Naturally, Old Mrs. Yeats found her to be an eyesore!
But why... why...
From the look in Old Mrs. Yeats’s eyes, Estelle could read exactly what she was thinking.
She was undoubtedly thinking that her mother was just a burden. Since her father had died, wasn’t it only natural for Eleanor to leave the Yeats family? Old Mrs. Yeats had already become the wife of the Head of the Yeats. She believed everything in the family belonged to her and her son. How could she tolerate someone else coming in to share it?
Moreover, Estelle guessed that regardless of what was currently going on between Old Mr. Yeats and the current Head of the Yeats—and whether Mrs. Yeats’s words were true—they had, at the very least, treated Eleanor with genuine affection back then.
Old Mr. Yeats had truly loved Eleanor as his own daughter, and Zion Yeats had genuinely doted on his sister.
Because of this, Old Mrs. Yeats felt isolated within the family.
She was clearly the true member of the Yeats family, yet the Yeats doted on that orphaned girl instead. What kind of logic was that? Anyone who shared the Yeats family’s attention with her deserved to die! Even if Eleanor was the daughter of Old Mr. Yeats’s nephew, and even if Old Mr. Yeats’s own brother had died to save him—so what!
Old Mrs. Yeats’s expression twisted fiercely. "Shut up!"
"I’ve always found my mother’s disappearance somewhat strange. She and my father were clearly deeply in love, yet they were suddenly forced to leave Capital City..." Estelle feigned deep thought and asked in confusion, "My grandfather said my parents ran into danger back then, which was why...
"But I don’t understand. As the eldest daughter of the Yeats family, my mother was doted on by everyone. Who in Capital City could have posed a threat to her?
"Unless... that danger came from you, Old Mrs. Yeats. Am I right?"
As soon as Estelle finished speaking, a dead silence fell over the room.
This... this was the Yeats family’s private matter, and one that was supposed to be kept strictly confidential. Old Mrs. Yeats, who was known in The Capital Circle for treating Eleanor exceptionally well, actually wished Eleanor dead? This was huge news!
"Nonsense... Nonsense!" Old Mrs. Yeats roared, slamming her cane heavily against the floor. THUMP THUMP THUMP.
"Alright, if you say it’s nonsense, then let’s just consider it nonsense."
Surprisingly, Estelle didn’t press the issue. Even after Old Mrs. Yeats’s outburst, she didn’t argue back.
"But the problem now is..." Estelle smiled faintly. "Old Mrs. Yeats, how are you going to explain all this to the Branch of Yeats Group?"
"You, you..." Facing the furious glares of the shareholders, Old Mrs. Yeats trembled as panic washed over her.
Why... why was this happening...
These people were originally supposed to be Evan’s supporters, his allies...
"Evan Yeats, Claire Yeats, you must give us an explanation today!" The shareholders of the Branch of Yeats Group were enraged. The money that was already in their grasp had flown away just like that. Who would swallow such a loss? And the culprits were this pair of siblings!
They had to give an explanation!
"Melody Jenson! Are you dead?!" Old Mrs. Yeats, shaking with fury, roared, "Your son is being bullied by Estelle Lockwood, and it would kill you to say a few words?!"
Estelle raised an eyebrow slightly. According to Mrs. Yeats, she knew the family’s secrets. After keeping them for so long, she had finally sought Estelle’s help.
So, presented with such a perfect opportunity, would Mrs. Yeats make a move? Did she even want to?
Old Mrs. Yeats glared at Mrs. Yeats furiously. Evan also looked at his mother, hoping she would speak up for him. No matter what, these shareholders would surely give some face to the wife of the current Head of the Yeats!
To everyone’s surprise, Mrs. Yeats gritted her teeth. "I will not say another word to help her. Old Mrs. Yeats, you know exactly why!"
"You, you..." Old Mrs. Yeats’s fingers trembled uncontrollably.
Damian White sneered. "I’m not here to watch you argue. Old Mrs. Yeats, if the Yeats Group cannot give us a satisfactory explanation this time, then don’t blame Aethel for showing no mercy.
"After all, what you shattered was Mr. Lynch’s jade token! Who exactly triggered this whole mess? Was it Evan or Claire?!"
Old Mrs. Yeats gritted her teeth. This meant the Yeats Group had to throw someone under the bus.
She looked at Claire, then at Evan. Remembering that ’secret’ within the family, she finally clenched her jaw. "Evan! Just admit your mistake!"
Evan froze, completely stunned. "What did you say?"
With tears in her eyes, Old Mrs. Yeats cried out, "You planned all of this! You were worried that Estelle would return to the Yeats family and fight for your shares, so you orchestrated this entire scheme to ruin her reputation!
"You... you made Claire help you. In truth, Claire was just dragged down by you! Things have come to this, and I can’t let Claire suffer any longer. Evan, just admit it. Apologize properly to Mr. Lynch!"
Evan stared at her in disbelief, as if he had just heard the biggest joke in the world. "Grandma, what are you talking about?! How was today’s scheme my doing? It was clearly..."
He turned to Claire. "Claire, say something!"
However, Claire turned her head away, refusing to look at him. With tears streaming down her face, she shook her head helplessly and desperately. "Evan, we can’t keep making mistakes..."
Seeing this, one of the shareholders spat in disgust. "Evan, how old are you? Are you a giant baby? You expect others to clean up your messes every single time! And now you even want someone else to take the fall for you!"
"I’d say it’s a good thing Mrs. Yeats didn’t plead for you. Evan, you really are a Jinx!"
"I was wondering how Claire had the guts to do this. It turns out it was all Evan’s idea. What a great scheme!"
Insults poured in from all sides. Evan looked at Claire, only to see her hiding behind Old Mrs. Yeats. He felt as if he had been struck by lightning.
He had been willing to target Estelle and oppose her at every turn—wasn’t it all for Claire?!
"What do you all mean? You want me to take the blame for this?!"
Ruining the collaboration, smashing the jade token, offending Aethel.
If he took the fall, he would be permanently disqualified from becoming the heir of the Yeats family, and he might even lose his standing in the business world entirely! He had already lost his title as a ’Genius Painter’ and had reached a point where everyone despised him. If he failed to achieve anything in business as well, he would be completely ruined!
