Mommy, Daddy Has Already Regretted It
Chapter 394: This Is Not Mr. Lynch’s Jade Token
Chapter 394: Chapter 394: This Is Not Mr. Lynch’s Jade Token
Estelle Lockwood smiled warmly at Claire Yeats. "I can, but Miss Yeats... are you sure you want me to take it out?"
Claire shook her head helplessly. "Estelle, it’s already come to this. Just take it out and show everyone. After all, Mr. Lynch said the jade token represents him. Since he can’t be here today, the jade token will stand in his place. Otherwise, how can we sign the contract? Aethel wouldn’t agree to it, either."
She spoke with such righteous conviction, seemingly devoid of any selfish motives, making Estelle look like the unreasonable one.
Estelle curled her lips. "Sure."
Claire and Evan Yeats were practically vibrating with excitement. They knew Estelle couldn’t possibly produce the jade token. Dozens of eyes in the venue fixed dead on Estelle. Claire was on the verge of laughing out loud.
She thought, "Haha... dumbfounded, aren’t you? Did she think the Branch of Yeats Group is running a charity just because they praised her so highly? Estelle definitely doesn’t have time to find another jade token now, nor can she come up with an excuse. Let’s see what she does!
"Will she beg for mercy? Or panic?
"Well, if Estelle is willing to beg, I wouldn’t mind helping her..."
Right at that moment, the crowd actually saw Estelle nod. Then, from a box covered with a red cloth beside her, she took out a Green Jade Token.
The venue instantly fell silent. Everyone was stunned.
Claire’s smile froze on her lips. She thought, "Wait, what? How does Estelle have a jade token too?
"The real jade token is obviously right here with me... Ah, I know!
"Because Mr. Lynch isn’t in Crestfall, no one can prove if the jade token is real or fake. Estelle must have found out about the jade token and hired someone to forge one!
"But Estelle has never seen the jade token, so she didn’t know what it looked like and had one made out of green jade.
"However, the jade token Lynch gave me is clearly white jade.
"Haha, to think Estelle made such a massive blunder! She doesn’t even know what kind of jade the token is made of!"
The crowd in the venue held their breath, their eyes widening involuntarily.
It was a piece of green jade carved with an orchid. What was truly exquisite was that the orchid blossoms were ingeniously formed by natural yellow patterns running through the green jade. The patterns on the entire jade token complemented the orchid perfectly. The leaves looked completely natural, and with the yellow orchid blossoms as an embellishment, it was absolutely breathtaking!
"My god, this is a top-tier piece of Hetian green jade!"
"Well... aren’t Hetian white jades said to be the most precious? Why would Mr. Lynch’s jade token be green jade?"
"That’s just a general rule, but it varies on a case-by-case basis. Just looking at this green jade with the naked eye, you can see its soft luster. It must feel incredibly smooth and delicate to the touch. It has an outstanding color and texture, paired with a perfect hue."
"Most importantly, look at the carving technique."
"Yeah, it truly is a masterpiece. Besides, the color and material of the jade token ultimately depend on what Mr. Lynch himself prefers."
"Miss Lockwood has done a great deed this time, hasn’t she? She didn’t dwell on Evan stealing the painting, successfully secured the partnership for the Yeats Family, won Mr. Lynch’s favor, and even received Mr. Lynch’s jade token."
"Exactly. This eldest daughter of the Yeats family truly lives up to her name. On the other hand, I think Evan has been rather petty. It was his fault to begin with, stealing her father’s painting and refusing to apologize. Oh right, previously Evan even mocked Miss Lockwood for not having any Yeats Family shares and forced her to bet with him. He ended up losing seven percent of his own shares but refused to hand them over."
"Estelle didn’t continue making a fuss over it either, yet Evan accused her of being unforgiving."
"Seeing how Estelle is still dedicating herself to the Yeats Family and successfully finalizing this partnership without a single hitch... as for Evan..."
"The Yeats Family shouldn’t let Estelle down either. Evan has provoked her time and time again like an absolute fool, yet the Yeats Family still protects him. I really don’t understand..."
Hearing the murmurs of the bystanders, Evan’s expression stiffened, his face flushing crimson.
He thought, "Wait...! What went wrong? How could Estelle have a jade token? And now she’s become the object of everyone’s praise?!
"Estelle’s jade token is a fake! Are all these people brain-dead?!"
Claire also bit her lip hard in disbelief, but she quickly figured it out.
She thought, "Given Estelle’s financial resources, finding a jade token within a week isn’t difficult. But so what? Can it compare to Mr. Lynch’s jade token?!"
Claire swept her gaze across the crowd. Suddenly, two people gave her a subtle nod.
On the other side, Old Mrs. Yeats’s face darkened.
As the wife of the former Head of the Yeats, what fine treasures hadn’t she seen? She could naturally discern the value of this jade token. "Priceless" might be an exaggeration, but it was certainly worth a fortune—it could very well serve as a family heirloom.
She wondered, "But Claire clearly said the jade token is in her hands. What on earth is going on!"
Just as everyone was marveling at the jade token, someone in the audience suddenly shouted.
"No! That’s not right! That isn’t Mr. Lynch’s jade token; it’s a fake!"
The crowd whipped their heads around!
A man stood up from his seat, his face flushed and burning with sheer anger. "It’s a fake!"
A fake?
Everyone froze for a couple of seconds before instinctively turning back to look at Estelle. What did he mean... the jade token was fake? It wasn’t Mr. Lynch’s jade token? But that was impossible. Estelle was the partnership director personally handpicked by Mr. Lynch. Why would Mr. Lynch give her a fake jade token?
"What nonsense are you sprouting!"
While everyone was still processing, Claire quickly stepped forward and shielded Estelle behind her. Putting on the facade of a protective older sister, she wore a displeased expression.
"This is the jade token Mr. Lynch personally gave to Estelle. Estelle has been using this jade token to coordinate and collaborate with Aethel all this time, and there has never been a problem!
"You, on the other hand—what proof do you have to claim the jade token is fake? If you can’t produce any evidence, I’ll have someone throw you out!"
After saying this, she looked at Estelle with concern.
"Estelle, don’t be afraid. This person harbors ill intentions and is likely trying to sabotage our partnership with Aethel. We are all united today; nothing will go wrong. I believe you. You wouldn’t have any reason to pass off a fake as the real thing, right?"
Unexpectedly, the man only grew angrier.
"Miss Claire, Mr. Evan, you’ve both been fooled by her! I swear, this is absolutely not Mr. Lynch’s token!
"I’ve collaborated with Aethel in the past, and I’ve seen the jade token with my own eyes. It was clearly a piece of white jade carved with plum blossoms, not orchids!
"Oh, right, I even took a photo at the time. But Aethel’s people instructed me not to share it, so I’ve never spoken a word about it all these years. Today, however, I must bring it out!"
The man immediately unlocked his phone and showed it to the people next to him. "Look! This is the jade token I saw back then. It’s completely different from Estelle’s jade token!"
The surrounding people took a glance and immediately began buzzing with discussion. The phone was then passed around to those further away. Before long, every guest in the venue had seen the jade token on the screen.
The man spoke with righteous indignation. "I’m only doing this for the good of your Yeats Group! Partnering with Aethel is supposed to be a fantastic opportunity, yet your director is using a Green Jade Token to pass off as Mr. Lynch’s White Jade Token. Aren’t you afraid Mr. Lynch will find out and cancel the partnership?!"
