Chapter 368: Chapter 368: Scram When You’re Done Talking, and Don’t Play Innocent in Front of Me

And what about Liam?

Laura Jennings knew full well that Nathaniel Sloan was keenly aware they weren’t biological mother and son. Because of this, she would always roar with false bravado, "I am your biological mother!" in an attempt to establish a completely useless sense of deterrence.

But in the past, she never kept the phrase "I am Liam’s biological mother" on her lips. After all, in Laura’s mind, Liam was her son. Did a biological mother need to constantly prove that her son was her son? No. But now, she had begun trying to prove that Liam was indeed her son.

Nathaniel didn’t reveal any emotion. He simply instructed, "Luke, notify HR. Get the receptionist back and compensate her with a sum of money."

"Yes, sir." Luke White nodded and left.

"Nathaniel Sloan!!" Laura roared, hands on her hips. Feeling that her authority had been provoked, she trembled with rage. "What is the meaning of this? I’m asking you, what do you mean by this? Do you even care about your mother’s dignity anymore? Huh? I’m asking you if you do!

"That wretched little receptionist only dared to treat me like that because she thinks she has a pretty face! The fact that I didn’t kick her out of Crestfall entirely was already giving her face! It was just a simple firing, yet you’re defying your own biological mother for some woman!"

Nathaniel gently opened a drawer and took out a fruit knife.

Laura’s words were instantly caught in her throat. "W-what are you doing—"

"Why can’t you be a little smarter, Ms. Jennings? Everyone knows the Sloan family and I have parted ways and are at each other’s throats, yet you still come here to provoke me."

Nathaniel had nonchalantly notified the legal department. Before Laura could even react, the police had already arrived at the door.

"We received a report that someone is causing a disturbance and trespassing in a private company."

Nathaniel calmly pointed at Laura. "Yes, that person over there."

Liam was speechless. He thought, "Holy crap. Is my brother being influenced by Estelle Lockwood?"

Laura also froze for a couple of seconds before she started screaming like a madwoman. "Nathaniel Sloan! Are you even human?! Are you human or not?! I’m your biological mother! Is this how you treat your own mother?! You actually called the cops! I’m not leaving! I won’t leave!"

Nathaniel’s expression remained as composed as ever as he gave the officers a slight nod. "Sorry for the trouble."

"Nathaniel Sloan, you..." Laura continued to yell and scream, leaving the secretarial pool outside completely dumbfounded.

They whispered among themselves, "What is Mrs. Sloan doing? Showing up out of nowhere, getting kicked out out of nowhere. She arrived inexplicably and is leaving inexplicably."

Liam gulped.

Nathaniel looked at Thea York, who was standing frozen to the side. "Do you need something?"

"I... I..." Thea’s throat tightened. She had originally wanted to plead for Laura to show off her own gentle, magnanimous, and understanding nature. However, when she met Laura’s eyes, she realized that if she spoke up for the woman, she wouldn’t escape the fate of being kicked out either.

Thea had been sucking up to Laura, intending to build a good relationship with Nathaniel’s mother to get closer to him. But now, that thought was completely gone. She let out an awkward laugh. "Nathaniel, I heard about some things, so I came over to check on you. Everyone outside is saying... Estelle forced someone to kneel in public...

"A lot of people are saying she’s arrogant and domineering, and that the only reason she acts this way is because she has you backing her. I just feel like maybe Estelle needs to change her temper a bit..."

After saying this, Thea waved her hands in a very manipulative, innocent-acting manner. "Of course, I don’t think that way, and I’m not the one saying these things. It’s just what everyone outside is talking about, and I happened to hear it.

"I know you spoil Estelle, and she has the right to be carefree and uninhibited, but no matter what, she should at least consider your reputation..."

Liam sucked in a breath. Was this the legendary two-faced manipulator? He thought, "Oh, brother, you’d better answer carefully. A poor response could easily cause marital problems."

Thea smiled. "Actually, I know the Yeats family really went too far, but Estelle shouldn’t have... Sigh. Now everyone is saying that Estelle angered an elder so much that she fainted. I know Estelle did nothing wrong, but if word gets out, it’s still..."

Liam couldn’t hold back anymore. "So what if word gets out? You just said yourself that Old Mrs. Yeats was the one in the wrong. What, just because she’s an elder, Estelle has to suck it up and endure it even when the elder is at fault?"

"That’s not what I meant..." Thea’s eyes reddened. "Liam, you misunderstood me. I didn’t mean to condemn Estelle. I just feel that her actions are affecting Nathaniel’s reputation, so I specifically came to remind him. I’m not here to drive a wedge between them."

"Hey, I’m not..." Liam’s fiery temper instantly flared up.

"Are you done talking?" Nathaniel asked indifferently.

Thea gave a coy smile. As long as Nathaniel was acknowledging her, that was all that mattered. In the past, no matter what those men thought at first, they all eventually bowed down before her skirt. Therefore, no matter how good a couple’s relationship was, as long as she intentionally sowed discord, there would always come a day when they fell apart. Filled with anticipation, Thea said, "I’m just..."

"If you’re done talking, get lost."

Nathaniel didn’t give the manipulator a single chance to keep up her act.

Liam was stunned. He thought, "Holy crap, he is that direct?!"

Thea’s affectionate, tender face instantly flushed a deep, embarrassed red. "N-Nathaniel, I..."

Behind her, Luke, who had just returned, forcibly escorted Thea out.

After Thea left, Liam, still in shock, suddenly jumped up. "Who are you?! You’re not Nathaniel Sloan! I don’t care who you are, but get out of Nathaniel’s body right now!!"

Nathaniel was speechless. He furrowed his brows. "Are you sick?"

"Oh, it is you. That’s right." Receiving an insult instantly made Liam sigh in relief. "What’s going on with you? Just now, you completely gave her no... Uh, I mean, didn’t you just completely ignore them in the past?"

Nathaniel calmly asked, "Is there any need for me to continue pretending to be civil with Laura Jennings?"

Liam scratched his head. Oh... It seemed there really wasn’t any need.

"Since there’s no need, there’s no point in saving her face." Nathaniel hadn’t cared in the past, but having a dog constantly barking in his ear was quite annoying.

Liam stared blankly at Nathaniel. He couldn’t help but feel that his brother had changed in many ways. Were these changes brought about by Estelle Lockwood? Growing up in the Sloan family, all Nathaniel had ever felt was a bitter, heartless coldness. Liam knew better than anyone what Nathaniel had gone through since childhood. But now, he really had changed a lot. It seemed that ever since Estelle returned to the country, Nathaniel had been different. He...

Liam couldn’t help but sigh emotionally. "Nathaniel, you really are... becoming more and more like a human being."

Nathaniel gave him a look, furrowing his brows. "What are you talking about?"

He wondered what Liam meant. Was he not human before?

"I didn’t mean it like that! I meant—hey, wait a minute!" Liam yelped. "I’m praising you! Praising you! Do you understand a compliment? No, wait, what are you doing? What do you mean? Nathaniel Sloan, are you still not going to admit you’re inhuman?!"

Outside the door, Estelle Lockwood fell silent. She pulled back her hand that had been about to knock, feeling a little bewildered. What exactly were these two brothers doing?

She was confused and puzzled, but she respected it.
