Miss Witch’s Devotion Has Gone… Twisted
Chapter 654: The Village That Worships the Observer
"Waaaaah... Can we follow you from now on..."
In the morning, everyone had woken up. The Siren Younger Sister, who had gotten to eat, suddenly burst into tears. This was the first time she had ever tasted something so delicious.
Their wings were indeed more dexterous than ordinary wings. Though they couldn't quite manage chopsticks, they could still use them to hold up their rice bowls.
At this moment, Loren had won over the Siren Younger Sister with a single bowl of rice. Her older sister said nothing, but she was still eating with great enthusiasm, which could be considered a silent endorsement of her sister's decision.
"We only attacked nearby ships because we were starving and had no other choice. And we never intended to take any lives... If we'd had even a single bite to eat, we would never have done such things...
"We're not good swimmers, so we can't catch fish. We can't catch the animals on shore either, let alone the ones that can fly..."
The Siren Younger Sister continued to play up her misery, having already forgotten what Loren had done to them before.
"Think it through carefully. Staying with us is very dangerous."
If it was convenient, Loren wouldn't mind raising these two endangered species on the side. It would really be a pity if they simply starved to death in the wild.
Most importantly, they could provide him with a steady stream of materials. Even if their self-healing was relatively slow, having some was still better than having none."What danger could there be?"
The Siren Younger Sister had grown tired of this wandering, displaced life. If she could have a master, a bit of danger was acceptable.
"We're going up against the Orthodox Gods."
"Orthodox Gods? Are they the same kind of thing as the Sea God?"
Hearing the term "Orthodox Gods," the Siren Younger Sister looked confused.
They had even less common knowledge than Loren had imagined. They didn't even know about the Orthodox Gods.
But at least they knew of the Sea God, so there was something to compare against.
"There are nine Orthodox Gods at present, and all nine are our enemies.
"The weakest of them, against the Sea God, would be about a seventy-thirty split. In three minutes, they could turn the Sea God into seven different dishes."
The Sea God generally took the form of an animal, so it could indeed be made into a meal. There was nothing wrong with Loren's analogy.
"Then forget it..."
The Siren Younger Sister immediately got cold feet. Although she didn't know about the Orthodox Gods, she did know about the Sea God. She was well aware of how terrifying the Sea God's followers were, and the followers of the Orthodox Gods would only be even stronger.
"Alright, after you finish eating, leave your feathers behind and go. I'm setting you free."
"Wait, I have a question!"
Anna suddenly interrupted Loren, voicing her own doubt:
"Are you sirens viviparous or oviparous?"
"?"
This question even stumped Loren. Even he didn't know the answer.
He knew that one particular part of the sirens' anatomy was quite useful, but he genuinely had no idea whether this species was viviparous or oviparous.
Loren carefully observed their physical structure, then offered his guess:
"You're not like platypuses, are you? Oviparous mammals?"
Loren was genuinely a bit curious about this question.
Everyone's gaze converged on the two sirens, to the point where even the Siren Younger Sister set down her bowl.
"Actually, I don't know either. We're orphans. We've never seen our parents.
"Ever since I can remember, it's just been the two of us living together. We've never met other sirens, so we don't know if we're viviparous or oviparous..."
"Really now, why am I agonizing over a question like this..."
Only then did Loren realize that he seemed to have been led astray by Anna. What did it matter to him whether sirens were viviparous or oviparous?
"It's easy to find out, Master Mentor. Just go have a child with them and see. Then you'll know!"
"Absolutely not!"
"That's not entirely impossible..."
The Witches and the sirens spoke at the same time. The ones refusing were the Witches; the ones agreeing were the sirens.
"How could Loren possibly do something like that with..."
Laila's face was flushed red. She could barely even bring herself to say the words.
"The Master is human! He's not even the same species as those two bird-people!"
Starnight countered Anna from a different angle, and her reasoning was fairly sound.
"We're sirens, you know..."
The Siren Younger Sister weakly protested. Even being called a bird-person, she didn't dare get angry.
"What if though? These humanoid creatures don't have reproductive isolation, right? The Merfolk don't."
"Merfolk were transformed from humans. Sirens are pure wild animals. How can you compare the two?"
Loren tapped Anna on the head, cutting off her jumbled train of thought.
"We could always just try it..."
The Siren Younger Sister suddenly spoke up weakly, then immediately shut her mouth when Loren looked at her.
"Finished eating? If you're done, then get going.
"How far are we from the next island? We'll just drop the two of them off there."
Loren had already plucked most of the sirens' feathers, leaving them nearly incapable of flight. They could only flap helplessly. There was no way they could fly to an island on their own.
"Not far now."
The Siren Younger Sister said nothing more, simply continuing to eat.
She knew that once she left Loren, she probably wouldn't get a full meal again, so she wanted to eat as much as she could while she had the chance.
"Stop eating. When you leave, I'll give you plenty of food to take with you."
Seeing the sirens so starved, Loren couldn't bear it.
He suddenly recalled how Anna in the past couldn't stand to see others go hungry either. But now, Anna had completely lost that emotion.
"Thank you so much... We'll definitely find a way to repay you..."
Hearing Loren's words, even the Siren Older Sister was somewhat moved. But the Siren Younger Sister spoke up first, so she simply silently endorsed her sister's words.
"Alright, what help could you possibly provide?"
Loren truly didn't expect them to help. They were far too weak. Even with their singing ability, it was nothing special.
That kind of ability wasn't rare. Not to mention the followers of various evil gods, even the Merfolk could do it.
Loren walked forward, opened the cage, and unlocked the collars and ankle chains on the Siren sisters, intending to release them.
It was at this moment that the Siren Younger Sister suddenly spoke up:
"Actually, I can follow you too. The danger doesn't matter. After all, our lives have always been full of danger wherever we go."
She only said that she was willing to follow Loren, not mentioning her sister. She knew this was dangerous.
"Forget it. Even if you came along, you'd just be dead weight."
Loren rejected the Siren Younger Sister's proposal.
Their time together over this period had changed Loren's view of them considerably. They truly weren't bad at heart.
But in the end, they had still done bad things, and Loren had punished them for it.
At this moment, the ghost ship happened to arrive at a new island. Loren carried the two of them out of the cabin, just like carrying two chickens.
Meanwhile, Starnight flew up into the sky, transforming into the shape of an ordinary seabird, and began observing the situation inside the island.
"You two behave yourselves from now on... be good birds, don't commit evil, or else I have plenty of ways to deal with you..."
Loren set the Siren sisters down, intending to use the Justice Card to keep them under control. But at that moment, Starnight came flying back in a panic:
"Master! There's a village on this island!
"The god they worship is you! The village is covered with the symbols of the Perpetual Observer everywhere!"
