Miss Witch’s Devotion Has Gone… Twisted
Chapter 629: Changes in Arcane Ability
"So try feeling it now, has your Arcane Ability undergone any changes?"
Even when Witches turn dark, their Arcane Ability doesn't necessarily change; their increased strength comes more from a shift in mentality.
Scarlett focused for a moment, then ultimately shook her head:
"There doesn't seem to be any change right now...
"Before, when I was staring at those people, I felt like I could instantly take their lives, but now I can't...
"It seems like I need to have feelings of jealousy for it to work..."
Hearing this, Loren suddenly had an idea:
"Drop the 'seems like' and say that sentence again."
"I need to have feelings of jealousy for it to work?"
That was the truth. Loren had discovered another use for his lie-detection ability: helping others study their own powers."So that's how it is..."
Knowing this wasn't particularly useful though. Now that Loren was back, Scarlett likely wouldn't develop feelings of jealousy toward anyone else.
But Loren still remembered another use of the Life Thief: deceiving others increases energy, while deceiving the target of a theft reduces consumption.
Not that this use mattered much for Scarlett either. Loren didn't expect her to be able to fool anyone.
"Forget it, just stick to being my warehouse."
Having let it go, Loren patted Scarlett's hair, and she started grinning silly.
"By the way, Scarlett, have you killed anyone during this time?"
"No, I had the thought, but I still remember what you said. We don't kill innocent victims."
Scarlett quickly shook her head, and what she said was indeed the truth.
"Then what about those cases in the newspapers... forget it, none of our business. We'll rest up a bit and then leave."
With magic and Magical Potions to assist, Scarlett would recover in no time. She was just too weak to absorb the nourishment right now; a little rest would do the trick.
The Magical Potions Loren had brewed before were all still in Scarlett's space, and those potions were far stronger than anything Loren could buy on the spot.
Having found Scarlett, Loren would save himself a lot of trouble.
"By the way, take out the Severance Ritual materials for severing wind. That Angel of Wind hasn't been completely finished off yet."
Once Loren made a move, he never left survivors. Those two fire angels were in the Eternal Ember Serpent's belly, unable to stir up any trouble, but the Angel of Wind was still with Loren.
He had crafted an airtight wooden sphere, stuffed it full of Eroding Wind Blood Mist, leaving the Angel of Wind unable to regenerate, yet also unable to be fully killed.
Death hadn't come looking for him during this period either, and Loren had never treated something as uncontrollable as Death as one of his tools.
However, Loren felt that if he were truly about to die, Death would definitely rush out to stop it.
After all, she genuinely couldn't bear to see Loren die.
"Okay."
As a warehouse, Scarlett was quite adept. She instantly pulled out the materials Loren needed, and Loren began setting things up right in the room.
At the same time, Loren's mouth wasn't idle either, as he asked Scarlett about other things:
"Scarlett, does this room have any special effect? Outside, no one else could see this room except me...
"They didn't even just fail to see it. They couldn't discover it at all. They couldn't even touch it."
"Oh, I stole the existence of this house, so strictly speaking, this house doesn't exist right now."
"You can play it like that?"
Before Loren could speak, Anna was already stunned.
She looked at Loren, and only now did she finally realize why Loren had said back then that Scarlett's Arcane Ability was the strongest Arcane Ability.
Even Scarlett's mind could produce this kind of effect. If the Life Thief were on an ordinary Witch, wouldn't she be outright invincible?
It didn't even need to be given to Loren. Just giving it to any Witch with a normal brain would do.
"How did you manage that?"
Loren was equally stunned. It wasn't surprising that the Life Thief could reach this level, but it was surprising that Scarlett could apply it to this degree.
Existence being stolen, and even the things inside the house being affected along with it. That was the reason Scarlett had never been discovered.
"I don't know either. When my emotions were running high, I just did it instinctively..."
Loren still hadn't gotten any meaningful answers out of her, but he wasn't too discouraged.
Scarlett, after all. That was just how she was.
"By the way, why did you come to the God of Pain's territory? There's nothing here. You'd have been better off going to the God of Bountiful Harvest's or the God of Night and Thunder's territory..."
"Because I was in pain. I was in so much pain I wanted to die. I could only try to believe in the God of Pain to ease my suffering, but it didn't work."
As she spoke, Scarlett lifted her clothes, revealing the scars on her body:
"At first, I tried to use physical pain to ease the pain in my heart, but that didn't help much. Though after I prayed to the God of Pain, my body stopped hurting..."
Scarlett said such heartbreaking words in a flat tone, and the room fell silent again.
"Why are you all so serious?"
Scarlett scratched her head, not understanding the looks people were giving her.
The more she acted like that, the more pitiful she seemed.
Loren thought being simple-minded wasn't so bad after all.
"This kind of pain born from love isn't something a mere Orthodox God like the God of Pain can resolve. Otherwise, the Goddess of Love wouldn't be the strongest Outer God."
Loren didn't know how to comfort Scarlett, so he started explaining why the God of Pain's authority was useless.
And she truly didn't think there was any problem with it, nor did she feel she needed comfort.
As long as Loren could be found again, that was all Scarlett wanted. Nothing else mattered.
As they spoke, Loren had already prepared the restricted Severance Ritual. He instantly severed the concept of wind, then crushed the wooden sphere in his hand, completely killing the Angel of Wind.
Before it could make any big commotion, Loren deactivated the Severance Ritual. Another angel had died completely at Loren's hands.
"Alright, get some good rest. Once you've recovered, we'll go find the other Witches."
Loren casually cleaned up the traces of the restricted Severance Ritual and sat down beside Scarlett.
He had Scarlett drink some healing Magical Potions, then began examining her body.
Those wounds had already healed into scars, and even Healing Potions couldn't restore them.
"Take out my brewing cauldron and materials. I'll brew you a Magical Potion to erase the scars."
This kind of Magical Potion wasn't very practical, so Loren didn't keep it on hand, but he knew how to make it.
"Is this potion drunk or applied?"
Scarlett suddenly asked, and she even sounded a bit excited.
"Applied."
Loren guessed what Scarlett was thinking, but he still went along with her. After all, she had suffered so much during this time.
Besides, Scarlett was already frail to begin with, and now she was even frailer. The main event was definitely off the table, so Loren could only satisfy her temporarily through other means.
Looking at Scarlett's excited expression, Loren dotingly stroked her hair.
