Mine Alone: A Yandere's Devotion
Chapter 145: Two Histories, One Heart
WARNING: TWO ORIGINAL HISTORIES CANNOT COEXIST.
ONE HISTORY MUST BE ERASED.
The notifications burned against the darkness.
Dillan stared at them.
Then he looked at the two women standing before him.
The younger one had no name.
The older one claimed to be the Sasha who existed before he had ever asked for someone.
And between them stood a little girl whose silver hair shimmered beneath the dying light.
Three faces.
Three versions of the same existence.
One history that apparently should never have happened.
Dillan slowly exhaled.
"Who decided that one history must be erased?"
The older woman smiled.
"The same force that decided you were allowed to exist."
"That’s not an answer."
"It’s the only one I have."
"No. It’s the only one you’re willing to give."
Her smile faded.
The younger Sasha stepped between them.
"Stop talking about me as if I’m not here."
Both women turned toward her.
She lifted her chin.
"I don’t care who came first. I don’t care who was supposed to exist. And I don’t care whether either of you thinks I’m a mistake."
Her voice trembled.
"But I’m standing here."
She pressed a hand against her chest.
"I’m breathing. I’m thinking. I’m frightened."
She looked directly at the older woman.
"And I’m not going to apologize for being alive."
For several seconds, nobody spoke.
Then the older woman closed her eyes.
"That’s exactly what I was afraid you’d say."
The floor cracked.
A black line raced between the two women, dividing the room into separate halves.
The Witness Record appeared.
HISTORICAL CONFLICT: ACTIVE.HISTORY A: DILLAN RUREN EXISTS.HISTORY B: DILLAN RUREN NEVER EXISTS.CONTRADICTION DETECTED.ERASURE COUNTDOWN: INITIATED.
A timer appeared.
00:59
Dillan’s expression hardened.
"Who is being erased?"
The Record didn’t answer.
00:58
The older woman looked toward the child.
"Come here."
The little girl hesitated.
"Why?"
"Because you don’t belong in this history."
The younger Sasha grabbed the child’s hand.
"Don’t listen to her."
The older woman looked at her.
"You don’t understand what you’re protecting."
"Then explain it!"
"I’ve spent my entire existence trying to prevent this moment."
Her voice cracked.
"I watched a world form around a boy who wanted someone to stay. I watched that boy turn his fear into rules. I watched those rules become a prison."
She looked at Dillan.
"And I watched you forget the person who paid the first price."
Dillan’s stomach tightened.
"Who?"
The older woman pointed at the child.
"Her."
Silence.
The little girl looked down at her hands.
The silver-haired woman continued.
"In the original history, she was born before you. She existed independently. She had a life that didn’t revolve around your loneliness."
She swallowed.
"Then you asked for someone who would never leave."
Dillan stared at her.
"And?"
"And the world answered by taking the person who already existed and turning her into the answer to your request."
The younger Sasha released the child’s hand.
"What?"
The older woman’s eyes filled with tears.
"You weren’t created from nothing. You were created from a life that already belonged to someone else."
The timer continued.
00:41
Dillan shook his head.
"Then why don’t I remember any of this?"
"Because remembering would have forced you to face what happened."
"Which was?"
The older woman looked at him.
"You didn’t merely forget her, Dillan."
Her voice dropped to a whisper.
"You replaced her."
The room went completely still.
Even the countdown stopped.
For one impossible second, Dillan couldn’t hear anything.
Then the Witness Record appeared.
HISTORICAL FRAGMENT RESTORED.ORIGINAL SUBJECT: UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE.SUBSEQUENT DESIGNATION: SASHA RUREN.TRANSFER OF EXISTENCE: CONFIRMED.CONSENT: NOT RECORDED.
The younger Sasha stared at the notification.
"No."
She backed away.
"No, that can’t be true."
The older woman approached her.
"I know."
"You can’t just take someone’s life and call it mine!"
"I know."
"Then why are you telling me this?"
The older woman stopped.
Because for the first time, she had no answer.
The little girl stepped forward.
"Because she’s afraid."
Both women turned toward her.
The child looked at Dillan.
"And because he’s afraid too."
She approached the black line dividing the room.
"Everyone keeps trying to decide which one of us deserves to exist."
Her tiny hands curled into fists.
"But nobody has asked what happens to the person who gets erased."
Dillan looked at the timer.
00:29
He finally understood what the choice was designed to do.
It wasn’t asking which history was true.
It was asking which life he was willing to sacrifice to preserve his own.
Again.
Another forced decision.
Another chance to turn someone else’s existence into the price of his survival.
He stepped toward the Witness Record.
"I reject the choice."
The timer continued.
00:24
RESPONSE INVALID.ONE HISTORY MUST BE ERASED.
"I said I reject it."
RESPONSE INVALID.
The older woman grabbed his arm.
"Dillan, stop!"
He turned toward her.
"Why?"
"Because you can’t save everyone!"
"Maybe not."
He looked at the two Sashas.
"But I’m not going to decide that one of them is disposable."
The floor shook.
00:17
The younger Sasha stared at him.
"You can’t promise that."
"I’m not promising anything."
Dillan looked directly at her.
"I’m telling you what I refuse to do."
He turned toward the older woman.
"And you don’t have to disappear just because someone decided your history was inconvenient."
The older woman’s lips trembled.
For a moment, the years of exhaustion in her face seemed to fall away.
She looked like the girl in the photograph.
The girl who had existed before Dillan had ever asked for someone.
Then she whispered:
"You still don’t understand."
00:09
She stepped away from him.
"The history that must be erased isn’t mine."
Dillan froze.
The older woman looked toward the little girl.
"It’s hers."
The child stopped moving.
The younger Sasha immediately grabbed her hand.
"No!"
The older woman began crying.
"If she continues to exist in this history, both worlds will collapse. The original history cannot accept the life she was given."
Dillan stared at the child.
The countdown reached its final seconds.
00:05
The Witness Record appeared.
FINAL SELECTION REQUIRED.SUBJECT: ORIGINAL FEMALE.OUTCOME A: ERASE THE ORIGINAL HISTORY.OUTCOME B: ERASE THE CURRENT HISTORY.
00:03
The little girl looked at Dillan.
She wasn’t crying.
She wasn’t afraid.
She simply smiled.
"Dillan?"
He stepped toward her.
"Don’t."
She tilted her head.
"You always say that."
The countdown reached zero.
The entire world turned white.
And the little girl whispered her final words.
"This time, let me choose."
The Witness Record vanished.
The two histories collided.
And somewhere beyond the collapsing worlds, a new notification appeared.
UNAUTHORIZED CHOICE DETECTED.SUBJECT: ORIGINAL FEMALE.OUTCOME: UNKNOWN.WARNING: THE SUBJECT HAS CHOSEN A THIRD HISTORY.
Then came the sound of a door opening.
And a voice Dillan had never heard before spoke from the other side.
"Finally. Someone remembered that I existed."
