Mine Alone: A Yandere's Devotion
Chapter 121: A Thread Of Unreal
"Let’s see what happens when someone else gets to write one."
Dillan looked up.
The voice had come from above.
But there was no one there.
Only darkness.
Aurelia stepped closer.
"Who are you?"
No answer.
Lyra looked toward the collapsing ceiling.
"That wasn’t the Authority."
"No," Dillan said.
His eyes remained fixed upward.
"It wasn’t."
Sasha tightened her grip around his hand.
"So there’s someone else?"
Dillan nodded.
"Someone who was waiting for the rule to change."
The System flickered.
[EXTERNAL AUTHORITY DETECTED.]
[IDENTITY: UNKNOWN.]
[RELATION TO HOST: UNRESOLVED.]
[THREAT LEVEL: UNDETERMINED.]
[NEW RULE SIGNATURE DETECTED.]
Dillan frowned.
"Already?"
Aurelia’s expression hardened.
"Something is writing a new rule."
The darkness above them began spreading.
A single sentence appeared across it.
YOU MAY CHOOSE.
Dillan stared.
"That’s not dangerous."
The sentence changed.
BUT EVERY CHOICE MUST HAVE A CONSEQUENCE.
Silence.
Then another line.
AND EVERY CONSEQUENCE MUST BE REMEMBERED.
Evelyn’s face went pale.
"Dillan..."
"What?"
"That’s not a rule."
She stared upward.
"It’s a contract."
The Contract
The Core completely stabilized.
The shattered memories stopped falling.
The seven figures remained exactly where they were.
Then the System displayed:
[NEW FOUNDATIONAL STRUCTURE DETECTED.]
[DESIGNATION: THE CONTRACT.]
[AUTHOR: UNKNOWN.]
[PURPOSE: BALANCE.]
[HOST AUTHORITY: NONE.]
Dillan’s expression darkened.
"So I can’t control it."
"No," the voice answered.
It came from everywhere.
"You shouldn’t."
Dillan looked upward.
"Then what do you want?"
"Nothing."
A pause.
"I want to see what you choose when nobody chooses for you."
Dillan narrowed his eyes.
"That’s it?"
"That’s everything."
The Seven Choices
Seven doors appeared.
One in front of each person.
Sasha.
Aurelia.
Alina.
Dana.
Lyra.
Evelyn.
And The One Who Stays.
Dillan looked around.
"What’s behind them?"
The voice answered:
"Your connections."
Sasha stepped toward her door.
Dillan stopped her.
"Don’t."
She looked back.
"Why?"
"We don’t know what it wants."
Sasha smiled faintly.
"That’s exactly why I should choose."
She opened her door.
Dillan’s heart jumped.
Inside was a memory.
Sasha and Dillan beneath the oak tree.
Young.
Happy.
No System.
No Core.
No fear.
Sasha watched herself laugh.
Then she looked at Dillan.
"I can keep this."
Dillan frowned.
"What?"
"This memory."
She touched the door.
"If I choose to preserve it, I’ll never lose the feeling."
Dillan understood.
"And if you don’t?"
Sasha looked at him.
"I’ll have to trust myself to remember."
The voice spoke.
"Choose."
Sasha closed her eyes.
Then stepped away.
"I choose to remember without being forced to."
Her door disappeared.
Aurelia
Aurelia entered hers.
Inside was a memory of the day she had been erased.
She watched young Dillan desperately trying to remember her.
Aurelia’s expression trembled.
"I could take this memory."
She looked at Dillan.
"If I keep it, I’ll never forget what happened."
Dillan said nothing.
Aurelia smiled.
"But I don’t want my entire existence to revolve around what was taken from me."
She closed the door.
"I choose the future."
Her door disappeared.
Alina
Alina’s door contained the oak tree.
The moment before she volunteered to disappear.
She stared at herself.
"I’ve spent so long wondering whether Dillan chose me because he wanted me..."
She looked at him.
"...or because he couldn’t bear losing me."
Dillan’s chest tightened.
Alina smiled.
"Now I know."
She stepped away.
"I choose to be here because I want to."
Her door vanished.
Dana
Dana’s door showed something completely different.
A normal day.
No supernatural events.
No System.
No Locks.
No strange memories.
Just Dillan and Dana eating lunch.
Laughing.
Living normally.
Dana stared at it.
"This is what I wanted."
She looked at Dillan.
"A normal life."
Dillan smiled faintly.
"You deserve one."
Dana looked at the door.
Then shook her head.
"Maybe."
She stepped away.
"But I don’t want a life where I have to pretend this never happened."
The door disappeared.
Lyra
Lyra’s door was empty.
Completely empty.
She stared inside.
"Nothing."
Dillan frowned.
"Why?"
Lyra smiled.
"Because I don’t have to choose a memory."
She turned toward him.
"I choose what happens next."
The door disappeared.
Dillan smiled.
"That’s very you."
Lyra raised an eyebrow.
"Was that supposed to be an insult?"
"Maybe."
She laughed.
Evelyn
Then came Evelyn.
Her door opened.
Inside was the first memory.
Young Dillan holding her hand.
The promise.
I’ll find you.
Evelyn stared at it for a long time.
Then she whispered:
"I waited."
Dillan’s expression softened.
"I’m sorry."
"I know."
"You deserved better."
"I know."
She touched the memory.
Then...
she let it disappear.
Dillan looked shocked.
"Why?"
Evelyn smiled.
"Because I don’t want to be the girl who waited forever."
She looked directly at him.
"I want to be the girl who walks beside you."
Her door vanished.
The One Who Stays
Finally...
the last door opened.
The One Who Stays didn’t move.
Dillan looked at her.
"What are you choosing?"
She smiled.
"I already did."
The door behind her disappeared without being touched.
Dillan froze.
"You didn’t choose."
"I did."
"What?"
She walked toward him.
"I choose not to be bound by the past."
Dillan stared.
"And what does that mean?"
She smiled.
"It means you don’t owe me forever."
Dillan couldn’t speak.
For the first time...
she looked free.
Not an anchor.
Not a witness.
Not a rule.
Just a person.
The Final Door
All seven doors disappeared.
The Contract remained.
Then the voice spoke.
"Good."
Dillan looked upward.
"What happens now?"
"Now comes your choice."
A single door appeared.
Unlike the others...
it had no memory behind it.
Only darkness.
Dillan approached.
"What is this?"
"Your future."
He stared.
"And what happens if I open it?"
"You leave the Preservation Core."
Dillan’s eyes narrowed.
"And if I don’t?"
"You remain here."
"Forever?"
"Until you choose otherwise."
Dillan looked back.
Sasha.
Aurelia.
Alina.
Dana.
Lyra.
Evelyn.
The One Who Stays.
All of them were watching him.
Nobody told him what to do.
Nobody pushed him.
Nobody begged.
For the first time since childhood...
the choice was completely his.
Dillan reached for the door.
Then stopped.
"One question."
The voice answered.
"Ask."
"Why did you create the Contract?"
Silence.
Then:
"I didn’t."
Dillan’s eyes narrowed.
"What?"
The voice continued.
"You did."
Dillan froze.
The System appeared.
[CONTRACT AUTHOR IDENTIFIED.]
[AUTHOR: DILLAN RUREN.]
[CREATION TIME: FOUR YEARS OLD.]
[MEMORY STATUS: PREVIOUSLY SEALED.]
Dillan stared at the notification.
"No..."
A final memory surfaced.
Four-year-old Dillan sitting beneath the oak tree.
Holding hands with someone.
And saying:
"If everyone gets a choice..."
The girl beside him smiled.
"Then nobody has to disappear."
The memory ended.
Dillan slowly looked at The One Who Stays.
She smiled.
"You didn’t create the Contract today."
She touched his shoulder.
"You finally remembered it."
The door opened.
And beyond it...
stood Sasha’s bedroom.
But Sasha was not inside.
On her bed was a single handwritten note.
Dillan picked it up.
Only four words were written:
"Don’t trust your dreams."
Dillan stared at the note.
Four words.
Don’t trust your dreams.
His fingers tightened around the paper.
Sasha’s handwriting.
He knew it immediately.
But something felt wrong.
Not the message.
The timing.
Sasha had chosen to stay.
She had chosen him freely.
Then why leave a warning?
Dillan looked around the bedroom.
Empty.
The curtains moved gently despite the windows being closed.
"Sasha?"
Nothing.
He checked the bathroom.
Empty.
The hallway.
Empty.
Then the System appeared.
[CURRENT LOCATION: SASHA’S BEDROOM.]
[SUBJECT: SASHA.]
[STATUS: ABSENT.]
[LAST KNOWN ACTIVITY: UNKNOWN.]
[DREAM ACTIVITY: DETECTED.]
Dillan’s eyes narrowed.
"She’s dreaming?"
The System responded:
[NEGATIVE.]
A pause.
[HOST IS DREAMING.]
Dillan froze.
"...What?"
The bedroom flickered.
For a fraction of a second, the walls became white.
The Preservation Core.
Then they returned to normal.
Dillan slowly stepped backward.
"I’m still inside the Core."
No answer.
He looked at the note again.
The ink began changing.
The four words disappeared.
New words appeared.
YOU NEVER LEFT.
Dillan’s heart dropped.
The False Exit
The bedroom door slammed shut.
Dillan rushed toward it.
He grabbed the handle.
Locked.
"System."
Nothing.
"System!"
The notification window finally appeared.
[DREAM DETECTION: FAILED.]
[REALITY VERIFICATION: FAILED.]
[CURRENT ENVIRONMENT CANNOT BE CLASSIFIED.]
Dillan stared.
For the first time...
the System didn’t know whether he was awake.
That frightened him more than any monster could.
A voice whispered from behind him.
"Dillan."
He turned.
Sasha stood beside the bed.
Her crimson eyes were normal.
Her expression was soft.
"You’re back."
Dillan didn’t move.
"Sasha."
She smiled.
"I missed you."
He stared at her.
"Are you real?"
Her smile faded.
"Why would you ask that?"
"Because I was warned not to trust my dreams."
Sasha looked toward the note.
Then back at him.
"I wrote that."
"I know."
"Then why don’t you trust me?"
Dillan hesitated.
"Because I don’t know if you’re actually here."
Sasha slowly approached.
"I’m here."
She reached for his hand.
Dillan pulled away.
Sasha stopped.
For a moment...
something flashed across her face.
Pain.
Then disappointment.
Then something darker.
But it disappeared instantly.
"Okay."
She stepped back.
"You don’t have to trust me."
Dillan’s eyes narrowed.
That response was too calm.
Too easy.
Real Sasha would have reacted.
Would have argued.
Would have asked why.
Would have become possessive.
This Sasha simply accepted it.
Dillan whispered:
"You’re not Sasha."
The girl smiled.
"Correct."
Her eyes turned black.
The Dream’s First Lie
The room melted.
Dillan found himself standing beneath the oak tree.
Rain fell around him.
The same tree.
The same darkness.
The same place where everything had begun.
But now there was something different.
A chair.
Two cups of tea.
And Sasha sitting beneath the tree.
She looked peaceful.
"Dillan."
He didn’t approach.
"What do you want?"
Sasha smiled.
"Nothing."
"Then why am I here?"
"Because you came."
"I didn’t."
She tilted her head.
"You always come."
Dillan’s expression hardened.
"That’s not true."
Sasha stood.
"You came when I disappeared."
"You came when Aurelia vanished."
"You came when Alina was threatened."
"You came when Evelyn was forgotten."
Her smile widened.
"You always come."
Dillan felt a chill.
"That’s not love."
Sasha stopped.
"No."
She looked at him.
"It’s your pattern."
The Pattern
The rain stopped.
The entire world became silent.
Sasha walked toward him.
"You keep thinking everyone else is connected to you."
Dillan frowned.
"Aren’t they?"
She smiled.
"Maybe."
She touched his chest.
"But what if it’s the other way around?"
Dillan looked down.
A black thread emerged from his chest.
It stretched toward the horizon.
Then another.
And another.
Hundreds.
Thousands.
Every thread connected him to someone.
People he’d known.
People he’d forgotten.
People he’d never met.
Dillan’s breathing became shallow.
"What is this?"
Sasha whispered:
"Everyone you’ve ever refused to let disappear."
The threads tightened.
Dillan stumbled.
"No."
Sasha looked at him.
"You wanted nobody to leave."
"I changed the rule."
"You changed the words."
Her crimson eyes glowed.
"Not the desire."
Dillan stared at her.
"You aren’t Sasha."
The girl smiled.
"But I know you better than she does."
The Real Sasha
A scream echoed from somewhere beyond the forest.
"DILLAN!"
His eyes widened.
"Sasha?"
The false Sasha’s expression changed.
For the first time...
fear appeared.
The scream came again.
"DILLAN!"
Dillan turned toward the sound.
The false Sasha grabbed his wrist.
"Don’t."
He looked at her hand.
"Let go."
"She’s lying."
"Who?"
"The real one."
Dillan’s eyes narrowed.
"How do you know?"
The false Sasha went silent.
Dillan pulled away.
"You just admitted she’s real."
The girl stepped backward.
Her face began distorting.
Hair turning black.
Skin becoming pale.
Crimson eyes becoming empty.
She whispered:
"You weren’t supposed to notice."
Dillan stepped toward her.
"What are you?"
The creature smiled.
"The dream you wanted."
Then Sasha’s real voice screamed again.
"DILLAN!"
This time...
it came from behind him.
He turned.
Sasha stood in the rain.
Terrified.
Blood ran down her forehead.
Her hands were trembling.
"Dillan..."
She looked at the creature.
"...don’t listen to it."
The creature laughed.
"There she is."
Real Sasha grabbed Dillan’s arm.
"Wake up."
Dillan stared at her.
"How?"
Sasha’s eyes filled with tears.
"You have to choose."
"Choose what?"
She looked at the creature.
Then back at him.
"Choose which one of us you want to believe."
Dillan froze.
The System suddenly appeared.
[DREAM VERIFICATION AVAILABLE.]
[TWO IDENTICAL RESONANCE SIGNATURES DETECTED.]
[SUBJECT: SASHA.]
[AUTHENTICITY: UNDETERMINED.]
[HOST MUST SELECT.]
Dillan’s expression changed.
"Again?"
The same damn choice.
The same trap.
The same structure.
The Authority had tried to force choices before.
But he had rewritten the rule.
He wasn’t going to play its game.
Dillan looked at both Sashas.
Then smiled.
"No."
Both froze.
Dillan stepped backward.
"I’m not choosing."
The real Sasha stared.
The false one stared.
Dillan continued:
"If I choose one of you, I’m accepting the premise that one has to be false."
The System flickered.
The dream began cracking.
Dillan raised his hand.
"I don’t need to choose."
The false Sasha’s face twisted.
"You have to!"
"No."
Dillan’s voice became firm.
"I’ve made enough choices for everyone."
The dream shattered.
Wake Up
Dillan opened his eyes.
He was lying on a bed.
Real sunlight entered through the window.
His breathing was heavy.
The room was familiar.
His own room.
Dillan slowly sat up.
The System appeared.
[HOST AWAKENED.]
[REALITY VERIFIED.]
[DREAM CONTAMINATION: 0%.]
[ONEIRIC MALFORMATION: DORMANT.]
Dillan exhaled.
"So it was a dream."
A voice answered from the doorway.
"Was it?"
Dillan froze.
He looked up.
Sasha stood there.
Real.
Or at least...
she looked real.
She smiled.
"Good morning."
Dillan stared at her.
"You were in my dream."
Sasha tilted her head.
"I was?"
"Yes."
"What did I do?"
Dillan hesitated.
"You told me to wake up."
Sasha’s expression changed.
"I didn’t."
Dillan’s eyes widened.
"What?"
She stepped into the room.
"I’ve been here the whole morning."
Dillan looked at the System.
It remained silent.
Sasha looked at him.
Then smiled.
"Which means..."
She leaned closer.
"...someone else was pretending to be me."
Dillan’s blood ran cold.
Because Sasha’s eyes suddenly turned crimson.
Not glowing.
Not distorted.
Just...
deep crimson.
And the System finally appeared.
[ONEIRIC MALFORMATION: AWAKENING.]
[DREAM SUBJECT DETECTED IN REALITY.]
[WARNING.]
[THE HOST DID NOT BRING THE DREAM INTO REALITY.]
[THE DREAM FOLLOWED THE HOST OUT.]
Dillan slowly stood.
Sasha’s smile disappeared.
Behind her...
something moved.
