  7. Chapter 369

Ansu sat in the empty living room, once again swallowed by a boundless loneliness and void.

The house was so quiet that only the sound of his own breathing remained. He felt that something was off; this old house shouldn't be this quiet.

A vague thought in the depths of his heart repeatedly reminded him that this place was supposed to be warm. There should be the soft clink of a teacup against the edge of a table, the rustle of turning pages, and a girl sitting opposite him, looking up to chat with him with a smile.

He seemed to have forgotten many people, forgotten very important things...

Ansu frowned and tried hard to think, but the deeper he searched his memory, the more his head throbbed, forcing him to clutch his forehead.

His consciousness slowly sank...

Sank...

But just at the moment he was about to completely succumb, a sharp buzzing suddenly exploded in his mind.

This is...

Spiritual fluctuation monitoring?

This strange term crashed into his mind.

Before Ansu could react to what it meant, the warm living room in front of him began to collapse. The walls, the bookshelves, and Benalu City outside the window peeled away like shattered glass.

Replacing them was a flowing, softly glowing transparent fluid, where countless tiny fragments of will drifted up and down.

Is this... the Etheric Realm? A pure spiritual realm?

Another term surfaced along with his memories.

In the next second, Ansu's chaotic mind suddenly cleared, and all his scattered memories instantly fell back into place.

The preset trigger mechanism had taken effect. The 'spiritual fluctuation monitoring formula' had captured his intense spiritual fluctuations and activated 【Etheric Blink】, forcibly ejecting his consciousness from the illusion and into this safe buffer zone.

Ansu thought rapidly. He could only stay in this state for a minute at most, after which he would automatically be sent back to the physical realm.

Excellent. With this safety net mechanism, no matter how many times he was pulled into the illusion, he could force himself to break free.

Floating in the flowing, gentle light, Ansu breathed a sigh of relief.

Though the illusion had no ferocious demons or bloody horrors, that empty feeling of weightlessness was suffocating.

He had to admit that he was truly afraid of loneliness.

He feared empty houses, being unaccompanied, being forgotten by everyone... and finally dying silently in a corner no one knew about.

The weightlessness was fleeting.

When Ansu opened his eyes again, what met his gaze was an overwhelming expanse of dark red flesh. Writhing nodules covered the ground, and tentacles spread in all directions like vines.

At the very center of this mountain of flesh and sea of blood, a massive dark red heart was slowly beating. Countless blood vessels extended from it like an airtight net, filling his entire field of vision.

The Filthy Heart.

“I've finally found you.”

Ansu curled his lips into a cold smile. He slowly raised his hand, making a pistol gesture, and aimed his fingertip at the continuously beating heart.

Pure mana slowly gathered at his fingertip, compressing the surrounding air until it warped, as if it could pierce that soft core at any moment.

“You can't run!”

Seeing this, the Filthy Heart let out a sharp, mournful wail.

All the nodules on the ground began to writhe violently, and countless twisted tentacles surged toward him like mad.

“Don't waste your effort. Whether you survive or not depends on me,” Ansu said calmly, full of confidence. “Fear is your greatest weapon, but it's useless against me now. No matter how many times you pull me into the illusion, I can break free immediately.”

“With your spiritual trump card neutralized, do you really think you can hurt me with this useless flesh-and-blood offensive?”

The Filthy Heart's true body was too fragile.

The churning tentacles slowly froze in mid-air, and all the writhing nodules fell quiet.

The Filthy Heart stopped its wailing and fell into an eerie silence, as if repeatedly evaluating Ansu.

“You've got some sense,” Ansu sneered, slowly dispersing the mana at his fingertip and lowering his hand. “Let's talk.”

He turned his head to look at Celia nearby.

She stood atop the flesh, her eyes blank. Clearly, she had completely fallen into the illusion.

Ansu walked over and stood beside her, his gaze returning to the floating heart.

“I don't plan to destroy you. In fact, I might even keep you by my side in the future.”

The Goddess of Holy Light's repeated urgings earlier had made him realize the weight of these divine spark fragments.

“My conditions are simple,” he continued. “I'm going to let the illusion continue. As long as you cooperate with me and don't pull any cheap tricks to disrupt my plans, we're good. That shouldn't be hard, right?”

The Filthy Heart still didn't respond, only beating slowly in mid-air as if it hadn't heard his words at all.

Ansu wasn't in a hurry either. He reached into the 【Warehouse】 and took out several faintly red, glowing 【Annihilation Grenade】s, waving them in front of it.

“You recognize this, don't you? It seals a tiny amount of crimson marrowstone. Since you are a fragment of the God of Nature, you should know that this stuff comes from Elune and is a dangerous substance born from the decay and death of a deity.”

The Filthy Heart let out a low whimper.

The tentacles that had been hostile just a moment ago instantly retracted by more than half, clearly full of wariness.

“You know better than I do how dangerous it is.” Ansu flicked his wrist, and several grenades appeared and disappeared in his palm. “So don't play any tricks. Since I dared to face you directly, I've already made full preparations.”

He curled his lips and continued to threaten with a cold smile:

“Even if you try everything to kill me, these Annihilation Grenades will detonate instantly. If I die, you'll be blown to pieces right along with me.”

An invisible wave of will transmitted from the heart, carrying a clear sense of compromise and compliance.

Ansu secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

Of course, he had no mutually assured destruction trigger mechanism, and the 【Annihilation Grenade】s weren't time bombs.

He was just gambling.

Ansu reached out and took Celia's slightly cool hand, looking back at the Filthy Heart with a grim warning still on his face.

Immediately after, he quietly summoned the simulation system in his mind.

【Future】

【10 minutes later (October 16, 14:20), consumes 10 points】

【Remaining points: 105】

【Beginning simulation...】

...

His mind went hazy for a brief moment, and Ansu immediately snapped out of it, finding himself pulled into the illusion once more.

But unlike his previous passivity, his mind was clear this time. He was like a director standing behind the curtain, coldly watching the familiar scenes unfold before him.

In the dark, damp basement, firelight flickered, and the floor was littered with the corpses of cultists wearing silver masks. A burnt smell drifted through the air.

Not far away, Celia was fighting a cult elder, who was retreating in defeat, letting out sharp, piercing screams.

Ansu recalled that this was a basement in the Black Harbor District of Benalu City.

Back then, he hadn't known Celia for very long. Because of the Council of Elders' conspiracy, he had been captured by Elder Hall—who could turn into a swarm of insects—and locked in the basement.

The subsequent result was that Celia had rushed over to save him, her 'loyal' underling. However, out of suspicion, she had used 【Hypnosis】 on him, and he had truthfully confessed all his secrets.

An 'epic fail' from his early simulations.

But this was exactly the result he wanted.

He wanted to reenact every single timeline in the illusion that could break Celia and push her toward darkening.

This was the first scene, just to test the waters.

With a slight shift of Ansu's mind, the illusion continued to advance according to his thoughts.

After finally killing Elder Hall, Celia slowly walked over to stand in front of him.

She stared intently at Ansu, her eyes momentarily unfocused.

Ansu suspected she had almost realized that something was wrong with the current situation.

But it was only for a fleeting instant.

The strength of the Filthy Heart's illusion lay precisely in this: it was no different from a dream, and people rarely suspect they are in a dream while dreaming.

In the dream world, no matter how absurd the plot, the brain would automatically fill in the logic to make everything seem self-consistent.

She had already gotten into character.

“Ansu?” Celia's eyes curved slightly, her lips forming a half-smile. “You seem to have a lot of things hiding from me.”

“Hmm?” Ansu blinked, his tone bewildered. “Lady Witch, what do you mean?”

“You tell me,” she asked with a smile. “You said you couldn't use magic, but what was that spell you used to escape just now? And why were you and Mary arguing? Could it be that she stumbled upon your secret?”

Suspicions and interrogations were thrown at him one after another.

“Ansu, you've actually known that Holy Maiden from the Church for a long time, haven't you?”

“You've been secretly contacting her, planning to team up with the Church to deal with me, right?”

Ansu just looked at her in silence, offering no defense.

“I originally thought you were someone worth nurturing.” The smile in Celia's eyes faded bit by bit. “But you seem to have another side that I can't see through. Ansu, just how much have you lied to me?”

Filthy mana wrapped around him silently as Celia cast black magic on him.

【Soul Dominion - Hypnosis】

“Tell me everything you're hiding...”

No one knew how much time had passed.

Celia looked at Ansu, whose eyes were dull as he confessed the entire truth. The last trace of warmth drained completely from her face.

In the end, only utter disappointment remained.

“Heh...”

“So, you really were deceiving me. Every single word you said to me was a lie...”

She let out a low chuckle, as if mocking herself.

“That excitement, those promises to me... they were all fake.”

Celia lowered her eyelashes and let out an extremely soft sigh.

“I thought you were different. To think I actually held such expectations for you...”

How ridiculous.

The scene suddenly froze at this moment, and boundless filthy mana spread from all around.

Ansu could clearly feel her boundless sense of disappointment.

Yes! Just like that!

Ansu remained motionless in his dull state, but his heart was already pounding with excitement.

Countless failed timelines in the simulations—all the disappointment, grievance, despair...

The grief of losing the happiness they should have had by their own hands, the betrayal, the rejection, the violent shock of falling into eternal damnation...

Now.

Pour all of it into her!

Ansu even began to look forward to what kind of Celia would be born once all these emotions piled up to their absolute peak.
