The taxi stopped, and Yarebin pushed open the car door and stood by the roadside.

Gao Yang took out a super banknote of one hundred dollars and handed it to the taxi driver from the back, urging, "Keep the change, wait for us here!"

Gao Yang opened the door and got out of the car, then he saw Yarebin standing by the roadside, staring motionlessly at the house that had just excited him greatly.

Standing next to Yarebin, Gao Yang whispered, "Teacher, are you okay? Shall we go take a look?"

Yarebin took a deep breath and said softly, "That used to be my home."

"I can tell, Teacher."

Yarebin wiped his face with his hand, appearing a bit hesitant, and Gao Yang whispered, "Let’s go take a look since we’re already here."

"I know, I’m just not quite ready mentally, give me a moment."

Yarebin stood in place for dozens of seconds, then suddenly started walking towards his former home, but he walked very slowly.

The car didn’t travel far, just over a hundred meters or so, and soon, Gao Yang accompanied Yarebin to the door of the house.

When they reached the door, Joseph suddenly nudged Gao Yang and pointed to a sign above the doorframe, whispering, "Guesthouse."

"I saw it."

Gao Yang nodded and rang the doorbell in front of Yarebin.

Sochi is a tourist city, with a resident population of only over three hundred thousand, but hosting more than three million tourists annually. And since it just hosted the Winter Olympics, the number of tourists is slightly more than in previous years. Here, turning one’s residence into a guesthouse is quite normal.

Yarebin’s old home had turned into a guesthouse, which was a good thing for Gao Yang because at least they wouldn’t have to explain too much to get inside.

The door opened, and a woman in her fifties opened the door. After glancing at the three people outside, she smiled and said, "Hello, are you looking for accommodation?"

Before Gao Yang could speak, Yarebin gently nodded and said softly, "Yes."

"But we only have one room left, and there are three of you."

Gao Yang immediately said, "It’s fine, not all of us will stay here."

The woman stepped aside from the door, smiling, "Please come in."

Yarebin walked in slowly, and as he stood in the living room, his body visibly trembled a bit.

"We live on the first floor, and there are four rooms for rent on the second floor. The price for one day is one thousand two hundred rubles. We can provide three meals, and if you eat at our home, it will be an additional three hundred rubles, making a total of one thousand five hundred rubles per day."

The hostess couldn’t wait to state the price, and Gao Yang just nodded, while Yarebin was staring blankly at the living room, his lips moving, but Gao Yang couldn’t hear what he was saying.

Gao Yang said to the hostess, "Can we take a look, see the rooms?"

The hostess nodded, "Sure, please follow me, and be careful, sir, when going upstairs; the stairs are a bit steep."

The hostess started up the stairs, and Gao Yang assisted Yarebin, following her. This time, Yarebin did not refuse.

Before Yarebin could speak, Gao Yang whispered, "Hello, ma’am, have you always lived here?"

"Yes, for over twenty years. During the Soviet era, many houses on this street were allocated as family houses for military officers and government officials. We bought this house from the previous owner, and that was over twenty years ago."

Gao Yang wanted to ask where the previous owner went, but he hesitated, considering Yarebin was over eighty years old, and whether his parents or siblings were still alive was uncertain.

But before Gao Yang could inquire, the hostess smiled and said, "The previous owner who lived in this house was an officer. After the Soviet Union dissolved, he returned to Moscow because there were no more free vacation apartments available for him to stay in. That’s why we were able to buy this house from the official government. We’ve preserved it well, keeping the old furniture, so although the furniture is a bit old-fashioned, you can feel what life was like for a Soviet-era officer. Many people say our place has a strong sense of history, and I hope you like it too."

Gao Yang thought this was good news, but he also wondered if it might not be, as the preserved furnishings in the house might be too much of a shock for Yarebin; it was hard to say.

The hostess stopped and pointed at several doors, "The two street-facing rooms have been rented out; one of them will become available tomorrow. That’s a storage room, this is a shared bathroom and toilet, all very clean, which I clean daily. This one is still available; please take a look."

The hostess opened a door with her hand, but Yarebin was staring at the door of one of the street-facing rooms, not moving.

Gao Yang immediately understood what was happening, so he quickly said to the hostess, "Is there anyone in that room?"

"Yes, a couple of college students; let’s not disturb them. Let’s look at this one..."

Gao Yang reached out to stop the hostess’s words, immediately pulling out several hundred-dollar bills from his pocket, slipping them into the hostess’s hand, and said in a deep voice, "They will leave. To compensate for your loss, we’ll rent the entire guesthouse. Please be silent and just observe."

Joseph reached out and knocked on the closed door. After a few knocks, a man inside shouted loudly, "Who is it! What do you want?"

Gao Yang shouted loudly, "Please open the door; the owner needs to go in to get something. Thank you!"

The hostess was stunned, her mouth agape, at which point some scrambling sounds came from behind the door. Soon, the door opened, and a young man, appearing no older than twenty, opened the door, wrapped in a white bath towel, looking annoyed and saying, "What exactly do you want!"

Gao Yang sternly said, "Leave here, immediately. This is compensation for you. If you waste a minute, I’ll take away one bill."

"I’ve already paid until the day after tomorrow..."

Gao Yang took out a wad of dollars from his pocket, lifted the bills in front of the young man, and said sternly, "If you don’t delay for a minute, I won’t take away a bill, starting now."

Gao Yang took out a little more than a thousand, seeing the money in Gao Yang’s hand, the young man seemed a bit hesitant. Gao Yang said in a deep voice, "I just need this room, please decide quickly."

Lying in bed, covered by a blanket, the woman shouted, "What are you waiting for, pack up, don’t close the door, or they might take away more money!"

The young man immediately turned back, starting to hurriedly put on his pants, while the woman on the bed grabbed a dress and started pulling it over herself. Soon, as the young man stuffed clothes frantically into a suitcase, the quickly dressed woman ran up to Gao Yang and shouted, "We’re ready!"
