Mercenary’s War
Chapter 2651 - 2626: Crisis
Gao Yang was driving, Yelena gazed at him fondly and said with anticipation, "Can you stay a few more days this time?"
"This time I’m not leaving, I’ll still go, but won’t be gone too long. Yes, we’re all retiring."
Yelena suddenly froze, looking at Gao Yang in disbelief, "Really?"
"Really!"
"Ah!"
Yelena let out a scream and hugged Gao Yang from the passenger seat, Gao Yang urgently said, "I’m driving! Be careful!"
Yelena released Gao Yang and screamed, "That’s wonderful! Gao! I love you, this is simply great."
Gao Yang exhaled a breath of relief, still feeling shaken, "Don’t get too excited, there’s still some time before we retire completely, but we won’t be going to the battlefield anymore. In a few days, when the situation in Yemen stabilizes, your father and the others will all come back. I came back first to handle some matters that allow us to retire."
Yelena nodded repeatedly, Gao Yang smiled and said, "But first, I need to entertain Yarebin well. Has the cooking at home started?"
"My mom’s been busy all morning, don’t worry, Yarebin will definitely taste the most authentic Russian dishes."
"That’s good, let me make a call; Morgan and Murphy are waiting for me, but they’ll have to wait a bit longer."
Gao Yang took out the satellite phone, first dialing Morgan, arranged to meet the next day, then called Murphy.
However, with Murphy, Gao Yang’s plan encountered an obstacle.
"Can we meet the day after tomorrow? I’m very busy these days."
"Come and see me right away."
"I mean, is the day after tomorrow okay? I have some matters to attend to."
"No, there’s something more important waiting for you here, it won’t take much of your time, but come meet me at the usual place right now, immediately!"
From Murphy’s tone, Gao Yang sensed an unusual meaning, the matter must be important, but probably not life-threatening, otherwise Murphy would’ve called him actively, instead of waiting for his call to urgently request an immediate meeting.
Gao Yang glanced at his watch and then said, "I have a bit of time, alright, I’ll come meet you."
Stopping the car by the road, Gao Yang said to Yelena, "I need to leave for a bit, wait for me at home, I’ll be back before Yarebin and the others, wait for me for dinner."
Yelena seemed a bit confused but didn’t ask anything, just gently said, "Be careful."
Gao Yang smiled, "Just a quick chat, nothing dangerous, see you later."
Getting out of the car, Gao Yang hailed a taxi and arrived at the café where he and Murphy often met.
Murphy sat at his regular seat, Gao Yang went straight up to him, pulled a chair, and sat down, sternly saying, "Long time no see, did you call me over so urgently because you missed me?"
Murphy was staring at a pile of documents on the table, hearing Gao Yang’s words, he replied without lifting his head, "The moment I decided to call you, you called—it’s either coincidence or fate. Heaven still favors you, Ram."
After that, Murphy lifted his head, pushed the file in front of Gao Yang, solemnly saying, "You’re being investigated, this is the third time."
Gao Yang looked at the folder, his heart racing a few beats, then he asked seriously, "When did it start?"
Inside the folder were photos of Karima, then Abdul, but the first picture was Gao Yang’s—secretly taken when he was at Solar System Company.
Gao Yang felt a bit panicked, he whispered to Murphy, "Who’s investigating me, FBI or CIA?"
Murphy replied with a solemn face, "CIA started investigating you long ago, you know that. We thwarted CIA’s investigation together twice, yet their suspicion of you hasn’t dissipated. Your subordinate Taylor was being watched, issue resolved, CIA developed a keen interest in Solar System Company, which is a big problem but not unsolvable. The toughest part has come, turn the page."
Gao Yang turned over the materials, then he saw a photo of Little Donnie.
"Oh, f**k..."
Murphy suddenly slammed the table, gritting his teeth, "Man! Think about those things you’ve done, which one isn’t head-lopping material? How can you let someone who knows everything operate publicly in New York? Is your brain filled with crap!"
Gao Yang looked at Murphy, deeply tense, "I thought you knew, our agent should certainly be operating publicly here. He’s always been here!"
Murphy took a deep breath, saying, "I was negligent, I should’ve eliminated this threat for you earlier. Listen, someone’s been watching Little Donnie and linked him to Satan. The problem is Little Donnie appeared too many times during Solar System Company’s early stage, anyone eager enough to investigate can link him to all of you! He’s the key to completing the crucial evidence chain!"
Gao Yang was silent for a moment; he knew what this meant and had already made up his mind.
"How far has it gotten now?"
Murphy placed his hand on the table, looking serious, "Extremely dangerous, on the edge of a cliff, but there’s still a chance to pull back."
"What should be done?"
Murphy mimicked a throat-slit motion on his neck.
Gao Yang sighed, "Eliminate?"
"Yes, the simplest and safest method."
"Impossible, think of other ways; eliminating is impossible. Solar System Company can be gone, we can all leave America hiding like mice, but killing Little Donnie to silence him is impossible. I warn you, Murphy, if you assume on my behalf to kill Little Donnie, that’ll mean war."
Gazing at the stern Gao Yang, Murphy watched him silently for a long time, and Gao Yang’s gaze didn’t waver, persistently staring at Murphy with a firm and warning look.
Murphy finally lowered his head, gravely saying, "The choice is yours, since you think we shouldn’t kill, then we won’t kill, as long as you ensure Little Donnie won’t be taken by CIA and that he’ll keep his mouth shut, you can keep him alive."
Gao Yang confidently said, "He will never betray us, and I will never betray him. To act against my own brothers, killing my own brother just to avoid potential danger, Murphy, I can’t do it."
Murphy raised a hand, coldly saying, "Stop the sentimentality; think of a solution to your current crisis."
Gao Yang chuckled bitterly, "Alright, I’m still unclear about the situation; at least tell me what this is all about, how far has it progressed?"
