Mercenaries, I Will Be King
Chapter 952 - 889 Adventurous Operation
The group quickly returned to the car, gathering together to discuss their strategy.
Ferrari stared at the government army soldiers pouring into the radio station from afar, beads of sweat forming on his forehead. "Song, are you crazy? Going in now is like walking into a trap!"
Song Heping's gaze was firmly locked on the radio station building. "It's precisely because they have reinforced that we must go in."
"What do you mean?" Ferrari asked in a low voice. "Have you thought about whether we can get out once we're in?"
"Their reinforcement indicates the radio station is a key protected target."
Song Heping quickly analyzed, "But it also means—they are afraid of the radio station being attacked. If we can control the broadcast room, the chaos caused will be greater than expected."
Jiang Feng leaned over from the back seat. "But we only have pistols; how do we handle a company's worth of troops?"
"We don't need to handle everyone." Song Heping pointed to the side door of the station. "With our firepower and number, we can't manage all of them. Now, with our strength, we just need to reach the broadcast room and control the key personnel. Then we have a chance of success. Otherwise, storming in, the likelihood of success is less than 1%."
After speaking, he took out a satellite phone and dialed Lady M's number again. "I need BBC's Africa bureau to immediately contact Senan National Radio to arrange an emergency interview."
There was silence on the other end for two seconds. "What are you trying to do?"
"Do as I say." Song Heping's voice was as cold as ice, leaving no room for Lady M to question further. "Within twenty minutes, I want the radio station's formal invitation."
Hanging up the phone, Song Heping turned to the others. "New plan—we'll go in openly as BBC reporters."
"Collins." He turned to the back seat. "I need the floor plan of the radio station now."
"The broadcast room is on the innermost side of the third floor."
Collins opened a laptop, pulling up the floor plan provided by MI6.
"The building has two entrances, the main corridor is guarded, but the side equipment room can be bypassed. Compared to downstairs and the main entrance, the guards at the broadcast room aren't as many."
Jiang Feng added, "The guard shift change is at ten pm. There's a five-minute gap."
Abdul wiped his sweat. "I've found out that the radio station will broadcast the President's national speech live tonight; all staff will be on duty."
Song Heping stared at the blueprint, then suddenly looked up. "Then act during the broadcast, control everyone within ten minutes, and immediately play Du Er's speech."
Everyone was stunned.
Sweat droplets fell from Ferrari's forehead. "This is a deadly play. Once Du Er's speech is broadcast, everyone will know something happened at the radio station. The guards downstairs will all come up..."
"As soon as it's broadcast, we can retreat immediately!" Song Heping said. "The government army here at the radio station will surely know something happened upstairs. They'll come up, but the government army forces at the front line have no idea what's going on, and the citizens won't know either, which will cause panic."
"How will the front-line commander communicate with people here?" Ferrari asked.
"As long as military morale is disrupted and the front-line commander's attention is diverted, we have successfully bought time for Lumar and the others. When we leave, we blow up the broadcast room and the equipment, so they can't resume broadcasting to clarify. Once the station falls into silence, who do you think the government army public will choose to believe?"
Everyone fell silent.
Everyone knew Song Heping was bold.
But such boldness.
Jiang Feng and Ferrari exchanged looks, swallowing their saliva with difficulty.
"During the live broadcast, all attention will be focused on the studio, and the guards will be lax."
Song Heping's voice was chillingly calm. "We apply for a temporary interview under the guise of BBC reporters; once we're in, we directly control the broadcast room. Abdul, simultaneously contact Lumar, have them cooperate with us to create momentum, strategically attacking the government army's defense line, breaking through with full force."
"Can do..." Abdul looked at Song Heping as if seeing an alien.
This kind of tactic.
Not to mention never seen before.
Never heard of.
Ferrari frowned. "It's too risky; if it fails, we won't even have a chance to retreat."
"There's no better choice." Song Heping's gaze swept over everyone. "Two hours later, Lumar's troops will launch a full assault. If the station is still under government control after the battle starts, the government army won't collapse."
He paused, his voice low. "Therefore, we must let everyone in Sena hear Du Er's voice and make them think—the capital has already fallen."
The inside of the car fell into a brief silence.
Finally, Jiang Feng let out a cold laugh. "Damn it, let's do it."
At nine forty-five in the evening, the five of them arrived in front of the radio station building once more.
Song Heping adjusted his suit and tie, carrying a briefcase at the forefront.
The guards at the entrance stopped them. "IDs."
"BBC News," Song Heping presented his journalist pass. "We have an appointment for tonight's live link."
The guard checked the list and indeed saw a record for the "BBC Special Group"—this was naturally Lady M's handiwork.
The soldier who had "interviewed" them before came over to his colleague. "They're from the BBC. I verified them from across the street just now."
"Go in," his colleague confirmed the verification and waved them through, not forgetting to warn, "Don't wander around."
"No problem." Song Heping replied repeatedly.
As they walked past the entry line, it felt like a dream.
"The world is just a big makeshift troupe." Ferrari couldn't help but laugh. "They just let us through without contacting anyone inside the station."
The interior of the building was busier than expected, with staff running to and fro, adjusting equipment, and checking scripts.
Song Heping and the others blended into the crowd, quietly moving to the third floor.
No one seemed to notice these strange faces.
Two guards stood in front of the broadcast room door, pistols at their waists.
Song Heping signaled to Ferrari, who immediately stepped forward, loudly asking in an exaggerated London accent, "Where's the restroom? I can't hold it anymore!"
The guards impatiently pointed in a direction, and Ferrari thanked them repeatedly, deliberately bumping into one.
Seizing the moment of distraction, Song Heping and Jiang Feng struck simultaneously—
"Click."
A slight sound of a neck snapping, and the two guards fell silently.
Collins quickly picked the lock to the broadcast room, and the five slipped in, locking the door behind them.
Inside the broadcast room, three staff members were adjusting equipment. Seeing strangers burst in, just about to shout, Jiang Feng and Ferrari already had their guns pointed at their foreheads.
"Don't move, don't shout," Song Heping said coldly, "We're just borrowing your equipment."
Collins swiftly took over the control panel, inserting a pre-prepared tape.
Jiang Feng stood guard by the door, ear pressed against the door, listening intently for any external sounds.
Abdul immediately pulled out a satellite phone to contact Lumar, inquiring about initiating the attack.
Song Heping glanced at his watch. "Still ten minutes left, ten o'clock is the time Lumar has agreed for the general attack."
Everyone held their breath, sweat dripping down, the clattering sound seeming audible as they hit the floor.
At this time, the guards downstairs were still patrolling as usual, unaware something had happened in the broadcast room upstairs.
The entire nation was unaware.
