Mercenaries, I Will Be King
Chapter 737 - 677: Dismantling the Building
The enemies on the first floor are finally cleared.
Now Song Heping, Jiang Feng, Collins, and Klein have completely taken control of the first floor.
But the problem is still unresolved.
As soon as Song Heping got up, he heard footsteps coming from the stairway.
He suppressed the chest tightness and nausea caused by the shock, crawled and rolled to stand up, pressing himself against the wall of a room opposite the staircase.
Suddenly, Jiang Feng shouted, "Hand Grenade!"
BOOM—
BOOM—
Another round of grenades.
Both sides clashed life-and-death in the confined space of the house, where just a small misstep could cost a life.
Grenades were extremely effective in CQB tactical coordination.
The people upstairs knew very well that those downstairs were not to be trifled with.
And those downstairs dared not rush forward recklessly.
Thus, the enemies on the second floor began throwing grenades downward.
Two grenades followed by another two.
BOOM—
BOOM—
Dust and smoke billowed near the stairway of the first floor. Even with noise-cancelling headphones, it still felt like a soul-shaking experience.
"Are these bastards trying to blow up the stairway? Damn their ancestors!"
Jiang Feng's head buzzed from the explosions as he angrily cursed nonstop.
Song Heping quickly understood the upstairs enemies' intentions.
"No! They're stalling for time! The situation favors them now…"
Before he could finish speaking, Klein shouted over the channel, "Contact! Contact! Enemy reinforcements!"
Klein and Collins were guarding the outside perimeter, assigned to provide external vigilance so that Song Heping could focus on breaching.
Now that they had engaged the enemy, it meant that reinforcements were arriving.
It wasn't surprising.
These mysterious men in black certainly had more than just a small squad in this building.
From the direction Falcon Special Combat Team had been attacked earlier, it was clear that the opposing force had deployed men everywhere.
Now that the sniper point was breached by Song Heping, reinforcements would inevitably be sent here.
In Special Forces units, the sniper usually stays close to the Commander or in proximity, never too far apart.
Song Heping suspected that upstairs wasn't only hiding snipers but likely the enemy Commander behind this ambush operation.
If his guess was right, it would be a big catch!
Of course, if this assumption was correct, the men in black would go all-out to reinforce this location.
Requests for assistance continued to come through Song Heping's earpiece from Falcon Special Combat Team.
The battlefield situation remained heavily unfavorable to Song Heping's side.
Failing to eliminate the sniper while their own sniper was injured meant all allied units were exposed, while the enemy remained hidden.
The only way to turn the tide was to tear a hole in the enemy's encirclement.
The best method would be to kill the enemy sniper or Commander.
This building held high tactical value, which was why Song Heping fought so desperately.
But now the standoff seemed to have hit a deadlock.
The enemy upstairs defended the staircase fiercely. If Song Heping dared to ascend, he'd face bullets and grenades.
Hearing the South American special soldiers of the Falcon team screaming and yelling, Song Heping felt agonizingly anxious.
Time!
Time!
Time!
Time was too important to him.
He checked his watch.
Less than twenty-five minutes remained.
This meant within twenty-five minutes, he had to deal with the Lao Yinbis hiding in dark corners, ready to stab him in the back!
Otherwise, whether his Falcon team could hold out till the end or the Siria military arrived while the men in black slipped away under the cover of darkness, it would spell his defeat.
Especially crucial to Samir Department back in Illiguo, they needed this victory.
If Song Heping triumphed, the armed forces within Illiguo's I5I5 would suffer chaos, and the Watcher unit dispatched by the CIA would immediately refocus its attention, potentially rushing here.
This would create a golden opportunity for Samir to launch an attack.
However, under the current circumstances, his Falcon team was facing total annihilation, with no hope of calling for reinforcements. At this point, it was a blessing just to avoid falling into the pit himself.
This location had to be taken!
Song Heping was sharply aware of this, and it had to be fast!
Very fast!
RATATATATAT——
RATATATATAT——
RATATATATAT——
Jiang Feng and the enemies respectively fired wildly at each other's positions, unleashing random gunfire.
Precision couldn't be demanded under the circumstances.
Anyone exposing themselves too long would be immediately shot down.
The men in black upstairs were cunning.
They didn't even expose their heads but fired blind shots quickly.
In the narrow staircase area, blind shooting was accurate enough.
Combine that with a grenade every half minute being thrown downward—not aimed to kill but merely to block Song Heping from coming up.
In desperate situations, moments of ingenuity often emerge.
Sweating profusely from his nose tip, Song Heping suddenly had a brilliant idea.
He quickly ran to Jiang Feng's position and muttered, "Hold them back. Don't let a single one of them come down!"
Then he slipped off his tactical pack, opened Jiang Feng's tactical pack, and started rummaging wildly, like a rat digging through garbage. After a quick scavenge, he hurriedly ran outside to find Collins and Klein.
Jiang Feng kept firing at the upstairs enemies, unable to look at what Song Heping was rummaging for in his bag.
As he fired, he asked, "What are you looking for, old squad leader?!"
Song Heping didn't answer.
He returned indoors shortly after going outside.
Glancing sideways, Jiang Feng noticed Song Heping squatting on the floor, seemingly assembling something.
He didn't dare spend much time watching, afraid the black-clothed men might come down.
"What are you doing?!"
Jiang Feng couldn't resist asking.
Song Heping replied, "We can't get up there, so let's blow these bastards to hell!"
"WHAT!?"
Jiang Feng froze for a moment, and a burst of gunfire from upstairs sent pieces of wall flying, grazing the edge of his eyebrow and drawing blood.
"Damn it!"
Jiang Feng cursed fiercely. "You cowards! Come down here! Come play with me! I'll kill you!"
Song Heping remained behind him, fiddling with his handiwork while muttering, "Cursing is useless. You're using Chinese—they don't understand."
Jiang Feng, inspired by this, started yelling all kinds of "FK," "bastard," and other profanities mixed with gunfire and grenades.
The deadlock between the two sides devolved into a grimly humorous stalemate.
A minute later, Song Heping, drenched in sweat, stood up with several bundles in his hands, pacing around the living room. As he paced, he muttered to himself, "Load-bearing column… Load-bearing column…"
Jiang Feng seemed to figure it out.
He wanted to blow the load-bearing walls!
Given this was a small town near the Siria border, the buildings here were rudimentary with mediocre construction quality. If he targeted the load-bearing walls and took out a few key pillars, this whole building…
The scene, just imagining it, felt beautiful.
"Are you going to tear down the building, old squad leader?!"
"Exactly!"
Song Heping finally located the biggest load-bearing column. He touched it as if caressing the face of a beautiful maiden, his eyes gleaming with excitement.
"This is it!"
Song Heping immediately attached two kilograms of explosives to it.
Then he moved to another spot, standing by a corner of the wall.
"Three columns… This building seems to have only three load-bearing pillars."
He quickly affixed another two kilograms of explosives to it.
By now, he and Jiang Feng had used up all the explosives they carried.
"All set! Blowing up two of the three pillars should bring this building down!"
He immediately informed the others through their channel.
"Collins, Klein, I've rigged the building with explosives. Get inside now and regroup with us. Oh, and act like you're losing so they'll chase after you!"
"Understood!"
Collins and Klein swiftly acknowledged his order.
A moment later, the two of them retreated back to the first floor.
To make it convincing, they fired a volley at the doorway, creating the impression that they were outnumbered and panicking in retreat.
Song Heping set the timer to forty seconds.
The timing was intricate.
Just enough for them to withdraw from the blast radius, but also for the black-clothed reinforcements to enter the building.
Another crucial point was—once they entered the building, there would likely only be ten seconds left. Forget discovering the bombs already planted—even if they did, they wouldn't have time to disarm them.
The group immediately escaped through the window on the opposite side of the building, disappearing quickly into the darkness.
Within merely thirty seconds of their escape, a dark figure appeared at the doorway.
He cautiously poked his head inside.
Nothing...
Nobody fired at him.
"Looks like the place is clear…"
His companion behind him warned, "These guys are cunning and ruthless. Remember back in Ba Country, Vulture Squad lost dozens to them… Stay alert!"
"Got it!"
The warned man crouched against the wall, swiftly taking out a Shock Bomb, as did another black-clothed figure opposite him. Both threw their bombs inside simultaneously.
BANG—
BANG—
After the explosions, several black-clothed men, already armed and ready for assault, swarmed inside.
They were seasoned and professional combatants. Once inside, they spread out in different directions, covering various angles.
Then, in coordination, multiple squads of black-clothed men began searching different rooms on the first floor.
"Clear!"
"Clear!"
"Clear!"
The civilian house was small, so within ten seconds—
No one was found.
Voices called down from the second floor, "Is that group two?"
"It's us!"
The men downstairs replied.
"Come down, they've fled!"
"Fled?!"
"Fled…"
The man downstairs hadn't finished his sentence when a black-clad figure suddenly shouted in alarm, "Bomb! Run!"
Before the word "Run" fully left his mouth, two load-bearing columns erupted in dazzling explosions.
The men in black cramped inside the first floor had no time to scream before the shockwave tore them apart, scattering their bodies and shattered debris together...
A massive fireball roared upward.
The men on the roof and the third and fourth floors felt as if they were sitting on a springboard as the entire building jolted upward before collapsing downward at breakneck speed...
"SHIT!"
The black-clothed Commander stationed on the fourth floor, responsible for leading the operation, felt his heart leap up to his throat as he plummeted downward, letting out his final scream.
Elsewhere, squads of black-clothed men who were relentlessly attacking the Falcon team witnessed the fireball soaring up from their temporary command post. The light of the flames painted their faces red while the Grim Reaper within the inferno opened its toothy jaws with a sinister grin, snatching away the lives of their comrades.
