Mercenaries, I Will Be King
Chapter 1936 - 1422: Frost Raven Entry_2
"Scarface" spoke expressionlessly: "Mission details."
Walker brought up a map: "Song Heping will leave Baghdad for Mosul in two days. His route is fixed: after leaving Baghdad, he'll drive north along Highway 7 for about three hundred and seventy kilometers to reach Mosul. The entire journey takes five to six hours, depending on checkpoints and road conditions."
He enlarged the map and pointed to a section of road about fifty kilometers north of Baghdad: "This is the best ambush point. The highway cuts through a hilly area with enough vegetation and rocks on both sides for cover, and there are no towns within twenty kilometers ahead or behind; the nearest Iraq Military checkpoint is thirty kilometers away. He usually has two to three escort vehicles, with personnel numbering six to eight, equipped with light weaponry."
"Security details?" David Kovach asked, already assessing the terrain from a sniper's perspective.
"They're mostly bulletproof SUVs, with machine guns on the roof. In the middle is the armored SUV Song Heping rides in, with at least B7 bulletproof level. The rear escort is another armed pickup." Walker said, "The convoy maintains high speed, with fifty to one hundred meters between vehicles. Song Heping usually sits in the rear right side of the second vehicle."
"Scarface" pondered briefly, his thick fingers sliding across the map: "We need two teams. Kovach, you set up a sniper position at a high point, responsible for disabling the lead and rear vehicles. Holt, you lay explosives on the road to force the convoy to stop. Chen and Miller, you and I will handle close-range assault, clear the bodyguards, and confirm the target's death."
He looked at Walker, eyes like two ice cones: "Evacuation plan?"
"After completing the mission, head north into the mountains, where a hideout is prepared. Forty-eight hours later, a private helicopter will pick you up at the designated coordinates and take you to the border, then into Turkey." Walker said, "Each person gets fifty thousand US Dollars, half already deposited in a Swiss account, the other half after completion."
"Weapons and equipment?" Jim Holt asked.
"Everything you need is in the basement." Walker headed toward the stairs: "Follow me."
The underground armory made even these seasoned veterans subtly emotional.
The walls were adorned with various rifles, submachine guns, pistols, and the table was neatly arranged with plastic explosives, detonators, trip wires, and remote triggering devices. In the corner were three RPG-7 rocket launchers and a dozen rockets, along with four sets of bulletproof vests and helmets.
"Stinger?" "Scarface" noticed a long box.
"In case he has aerial support." Walker said, "Although unlikely, Song Heping has deep ties with the Kurd people and Iraq Military, they might have helicopters providing air escort."
David Kovach had already headed to the sniper rifle area.
He picked a Mc Millan TAC-50, equipping it with a Schmidt-Bender 5-25×56 scope and silencer.
".50 caliber, effective range eighteen hundred meters." He said softly, "Two shots to the engine block can disable the lead and rear vehicles."
Jim Holt was inspecting C4 plastic explosives and M18A1 "Claymore" anti-personnel mines.
"Laying directional mines on both sides of the road, detonate once the convoy enters the kill zone. Then use RPGs to deal with the armored vehicle."
"Scarface" tested an HK416 rifle, mounted with a silencer and holographic sight, his movements skilled as if handling his own fingers.
"We need onsite reconnaissance to confirm the ambush point's specific location and evacuation route."
"I'll take you tomorrow." Walker said, "Using civilian vehicles, disguising as a building assessment team."
"What about consequence assessment?" Robert Miller asked, it's the combat controller's profession to consider the aftermath.
Walker's expression turned serious: "With Song Heping dead, his business in Iraq will be temporarily disrupted, but someone else will quickly take over. The Central Intelligence Agency might investigate, but won't probe deeply; Simon will probably be glad to see him disappear. The Illigo Government will protest, but take no substantive action. The key is, any secrets that might be exposed will disappear along with Song Heping."
He looked around at the five: "Any questions?"
"Scarface" shook his head, his bald head drawing a cold, hard arc under the light: "Standard procedure. Reconnaissance, planning, execution, evacuation. Complete within seventy-two hours."
Walker nodded in satisfaction: "Then start preparing. Remember, this never happened. You've never seen me, and I've never seen you. After the mission, you'll get the money, then disappear, awaiting my next order."
"Understood." "Scarface" said.
After Walker left, the "Frost Raven" team began detailed planning. Jim Holt spread a large-scale terrain map on the table, marking possible ambush points, sniper positions, explosive locations, assault routes, and evacuation pathways.
David Kovach calculated range, wind correction, and bullet trajectory.
Michael Chen inspected all weapons, while Robert Miller tested the satellite communication equipment and medical kits.
"Scarface" stood by the window, gazing at the night sky over Baghdad.
The city's power supply was unstable, most areas were pitch black, with only sporadic lights.
It's not his first time executing this kind of mission.
After retiring, he had executed seventeen "black operations" in Iraq, Siria, Afghanistan, and Ukraine.
Targets included terrorist leaders, hostile military commanders, uncooperative politicians, and "troublemakers" like Song Heping.
This time is somewhat different. Walker is too eager, too emotional, which isn't the state a Professional Soldier should have.
Moreover, the target has deep ties with the Central Intelligence Agency, meaning the true background of the mission might be far more complex than it appears.
