Mercenaries, I Will Be King
Chapter 1080 - 981: Astonishing Skill Shocks the Crowd
London, MI6 Headquarters, Command Center.
A technician enlarged the drone's real-time footage on the huge curved screen's bottom right corner.
Despite the footage being unclear due to distance and interference, filled with green noise, the command center's senior agents could still barely make out the critical situation on the ruins of the battlefield in the southwest corner of Desert City, thanks to powerful image enhancement algorithms.
When Hunter was hit by the first .338 bullet on his helmet, helmet flying off, blood splattering — the room echoed with several suppressed gasps.
Ames's playful smirk deepened with a cruel satisfaction, as if saying, "Just as expected."
The operations supervisor nodded slightly, seemingly seeing the plan proceed smoothly.
When Hunter stubbornly raised his gun again to aim, M's ice-blue eyes narrowed slightly, revealing an imperceptible appraisal of the tenacious opponent.
Then, the second heavy .338 gunshot — although the drone couldn't capture the sound, the footage showed Hunter's body getting hit again and falling, and his complete collapse — the tense atmosphere in the command room noticeably relaxed.
A technician even shifted Hunter's vital signs indicator from the screen corner to the "combat ineffective/critical" red zone.
"Enemy sniper eliminated."
A battlefield situation analyst officer reported in a deep voice.
"Nicely done, Coleman."
Ames murmured a praise, his body relaxing back into the chair, as if the outcome was sealed.
"Song Heping exposed! Heading for the wounded! No cover!"
Another technician monitoring the screen quickly reported, voice tinged with the excitement of spotting prey.
On the screen, the figure representing Song Heping left the ruins cover, speeding towards the fallen Hunter.
Under the deadly vantage point of the water tower, it's nothing less than suicidal!
"He's finished."
The operations supervisor confidently concluded, glancing at M for approval, "Should we notify 'Cobra' for the final sweep?"
M didn't respond, her gaze fixed on the fast-moving dot on the screen.
She had a premonition.
Song Heping wouldn't die so easily.
So many times before, rumors spread that he was eliminated, only to be disproved.
This time...
Would it be so effortless?
Just as the operations supervisor's words fell!
The screen suddenly froze!
The technician seemed to catch something unusual, fingers swiftly operating on the console.
The footage showed, the sprinting figure, a few steps away from the fallen Hunter, abruptly stopped with an unexplainable, physics-defying stance!
His body was like pulled by an invisible rope, transitioning from extreme motion to extreme stillness. Then, followed by a dazzlingly smooth spin move!
Even more shocking, was the moment he completed the spin, a long gun already appeared in his hand — precisely the HK417 fallen by Hunter!
Bend!
Grab the gun!
Lie prone!
Spin!
Brace the gun!
Aim!
The entire process was as fast as hitting a fast-forward button!
In the drone's blurry night vision footage, only a series of coherent afterimages could barely be captured!
The hefty sniper rifle in his hands was as light as a toy!
"What is he doing?!"
Ames sprang up from the chair, staring at the screen in disbelief.
This distance, this angle, against an SBS Special Forces ace sniper occupying the absolute vantage point with top-tier equipment?
This is pure fantasy!
The footage continued silently.
Yet, the muzzle in Song Heping's hands emitted faint firelight and smoke, marked by enhancement algorithms.
"He fired!"
The technician exclaimed.
First shot!
Water tower top, SBS sniping point.
Captain Coleman's cold smile froze instantly!
He was steadily getting the crosshair on the scope towards the exposed Song Heping, ready to pull the trigger of death.
At this crucial moment!
"Clang—!!!"
A sharp, ear-piercing metallic shattering sound exploded next to his ears!
Coleman felt like his right eye was being struck hard by a red-hot iron hammer!
The immense impact and searing pain rendered his vision pitch black!
Warm liquid streamed down his cheek!
He instinctively let out a pained grunt, body suddenly leaning back!
The TAC-50 sniper rifle in his hands almost slipped!
Through the instantly blurry, agonizing right eye, he terrifiedly saw, his valuable Schmidt & Bender PM II 5-25x56 high-power scope objective lens had morphed into a spiderweb-cracked horror black hole!
Scalding metal fragments and glass shards were like deadly shrapnel, deeply embedded around his right eye, even slashing open his right side neck artery!
Blood shot out like a small fountain, instantly staining half his neck and tactical vest!
"Ah—my eye! My eye!"
Coleman let out a terrible scream, overwhelmed by the intense pain and fear from blindness.
He instinctively clutched his blood-gushing neck, his body violently convulsing from pain and blood loss.
"Commander!"
A nearby team member was stunned by the sudden change!
He had just been immersed in targeting excitement, and the next moment witnessed the commander's scope burst, blood splattering!
He instinctively lunged at Coleman, trying to staunch the blood flow.
