Selena simply laughed after hearing that and then said, "As expected of those corrupt bastards."

No one said anything else.

Then, all three of them finally returned to the real world as Audrey dispersed the illusion.

The ruined Capital, the destroyed territories, and all the corpses that had filled the vision disappeared in an instant, leaving them standing in the same place as before.

For a moment, none of them said anything.

Selena remained silent as she looked at Cassie and Audrey, seemingly thinking about everything she had just seen. After a brief pause, she finally asked in a calm tone, "So, according to this future... only my death can prevent all that destruction?"

Cassie and Audrey didn’t say anything in response.

After a brief silence, Selena finally spoke.

"Sorry, but I don’t think I will be able to sacrifice my life for some vision. I have a family waiting for my return now, and I have no intention of abandoning them because of something that hasn’t even happened yet."

She paused for a moment before continuing in a calm tone, "Even if this future really is true, I would still rather fight against it myself. If my existence truly leads to that future, then I’ll find another way to change it. I won’t simply give up my life and accept that this is the only possible ending."

As soon as Selena finished speaking, her aura suddenly flared up, filling the surroundings with an overwhelming pressure as she prepared herself to fight.

Cassie and Audrey immediately reacted as well. Despite knowing that neither of them stood much of a chance against Selena, they still prepared themselves for the battle.

They both understood the difference in their strength, but neither of them backed down. If it meant fighting Selena even at the cost of their own lives, they were prepared to do so.

But before the fight could begin, Selena suddenly froze.

Her aura, which had been spreading throughout the surroundings just moments ago, abruptly stopped. Her entire body remained completely still, as if she had suddenly lost awareness of everything around her.

Cassie and Audrey were both confused by the sudden change, but neither of them hesitated for long. They didn’t know what had happened to Selena, and they weren’t willing to waste an opportunity. Both of them prepared to attack while Selena remained motionless.

However, just as they were about to make their move, Selena suddenly returned to normal.

The strange state disappeared as quickly as it had appeared, and her aura settled down. She stood there calmly, looking almost exactly as she had before the fight began, as if nothing unusual had happened at all.

Selena then looked toward Cassie before shifting her gaze toward Audrey.

For a moment, she simply stared at them in silence. Then she let out a low laugh, but there was a trace of sadness in her voice.

"Goodbye. I won’t meet you again... but you will meet me again soon."

Cassie and Audrey stared at Selena in confusion, neither of them understanding what she meant or what had just happened.

Just moments ago, Selena had been preparing to fight them, yet now she was calmly saying goodbye as if she had already made some decision they knew nothing about.

Cassie tried to understand the meaning behind Selena’s words, but the more she thought about them, the less sense they made. Audrey was equally confused, silently watching Selena while trying to figure out what had caused her sudden change.

Neither of them knew what had happened during that brief moment when Selena had suddenly frozen.

Neither Cassie nor Audrey understood what Selena meant by those words.

"I won’t meet you again... but you will meet me again soon."

The statement only made things more confusing.

If Selena believed she wouldn’t meet them again, then what did she mean by saying that they would meet her soon?

Before either of them could even ask what she meant, Selena simply vanished.

Her figure began disintegrating into countless particles of light, gradually fading away as if her existence itself were being erased from the world. Within a few moments, nothing remained of her—not even a trace of her aura.

Cassie and Audrey could only stare at the empty space where Selena had been standing.

It was as if Selena had never existed there in the first place.

Cassie and Audrey simply looked at the place where Selena had been standing a moment ago.

Neither of them said anything for a while, still trying to understand what had just happened.

Finally, Audrey broke the silence.

"Did she... give up her own life just now?"

Cassie replied, "That is the only explanation we can think of right now. But what exactly changed her mind?"

She remained silent for a moment, still looking at the place where Selena had disappeared.

"She was ready to fight us just moments ago. Then she suddenly froze, and after that, she simply said goodbye and vanished. Something must have happened during that moment... but we have no idea what it was."

Back to the present.

In Cassie’s room, Cassie finally woke from her sleep. She remained silent for a moment, trying to recall the strange dream she had just experienced.

Then she muttered, "Why did I think about that time just now, after all these years?".

Cassie remained silent for a moment before muttering, "Is it related to the vision I had two days ago?".

But before Cassie could think any further, Amelia, who had been sleeping beside her, also woke up.

She slowly opened her eyes and looked toward Cassie.

Amelia looked at Cassie for a moment before asking, "Mother, did you have another nightmare?"

Cassie looked toward her and remained silent for a moment before replying, "It wasn’t exactly a nightmare. I just remembered something from a long time ago."

Cassie looked at Amelia for a moment before smiling and speaking in a calm tone.

"Nothing to worry about. Just go back to sleep for now."
