Chapter 602: His Majesty’s Final Decision

(Author’s POV)

After the intense confrontation with Chris and talking to Iris about Jacob, Alaric and Dion came back to Alaric’s room. Dion muttered, "My doubts have been cleared. Chris Shadow, that secretary, he is really upto something. He is behaving like a totally different person altogether."

Alaric hummed, "Yes, his actions are alarmingly suspicious. We need to keep an eye on him and investigate the actual cause of Fabian’s death. I will call Shade back." He spoke.

"No need to call Shade," Dion replied. "I have just the right person for this job." After that, he quickly made a call to Anya, his secret subordinate.

"Master, what do you need me to do?" a cool female voice came from the other end.

"Anya, got an important task for you," he said and started explaining.

Anya didn’t interrupt once and, at the end, replied with just, "Yes, master." Then the call disconnected.

"Are you sure she can pull off something like this?" Alaric remarked. He was listening to their conversation.

"Absolutely. She may be a human, but her spying and combat skills are exceptional. Even better than most werewolves. It will be peanuts for her," Dion said, very confident. After all, he was the one who had found her and sculpted her rough edges.

Alaric didn’t comment further, trusting his brother’s judgement.

Time passed by in a flash, and soon the morning sun broke out.

Neither brother had slept a wink all night. Their minds were filled with complicated thoughts about what happened the day before. Also, they had been waiting for Brave and Elio to return to the mansion, and for Jacob to wake up as well.

Just when the clock struck 5:30 am, a knock on the door snapped them out. Dion quickly made his way and was a little surprised to see Jared. "Sir Jared?" he asked.

"Young Alphas~ .... His Majesty is awake and has summoned all four of you to his room immediately," Jared said with a straight face. He didn’t wait for their reply, turned around and walked away.

Dion glanced back at his elder brother, who nodded. Then they both made their way towards Jacob’s room.

When they walked inside, Jacob was sitting on the chair, his facial expression stern. Secretary Shadow was standing beside him, his face tight, tense lines appearing on his forehead.

"Chairman Larson~ ... you called for us," Alaric said.

Jacob and Chris both looked at the pair at the same time. Seeing them, Chris’s eyes flickered for a fraction of a second, but he masked it with a straight face.

"Yes. Where are young Alpha Brave and Elio?" he asked, his voice heavy and hoarse.

"They are on their way and will be here shortly," Dion replied. "We heard about~ ..." he paused, then continued, "~Prof. Stephens. Our deep condolences to you."

Jacob licked his lips and swallowed, his eyes moistening at Fabian’s mention.

After a brief moment of silence, Alaric uttered, straightforwardly, "Chairman Larson, we request to check the security footage for Fabian’s room as well as the dungeon."

Jacob gazed at him and let out an exhausted, heavy sigh. "Secretary Shadow told me about your conversation from late last night. I also called you regarding that matter."

Dion eyed Chris while the latter clenched his fists, his expression still neutral.

"Young Alpha Alaric and Dion, your involvement in this case~ .... is no longer necessary," Jacob dropped the bombshell.

Both Alaric and Dion’s eyes widened at his words. "Huhh? But~ ... Chairman Larson, this case has too many loopholes. We should~ ...." Dion muttered, but halted midway because of Jacob’s hand gesture.

"Young Alpha Dion, I said what I said. My decision is final. We will handle the remaining investigation internally," Jacob’s authoritative voice cut him off. He then bombarded them with another bombshell. "There is something else I needed to tell you. Because of the unforeseen circumstances, the treaty deal will be put on hold for now. You have been away from your pack for quite some time. You all should .... return to Kimberg."

The Everests brothers were left blindsided by the drastic verdict. Alaric frowned, his tone razor sharp. "Chairman Larson, putting the treaty on hold will put not just werewolves but also the people of your clan in danger."

"I know the consequences very well, young Alpha. But for now, the Blood Fangs Clan will be going into a three-month mourning period for losing its rightful heir. Once it is over, I will personally come to your pack and sign the deal." Jacob left no room for any argument. "After the funeral procession, you may prepare to leave."

The brothers couldn’t counter that.

Chris looked at them with a faint, smug smile, which screamed, ’See that? Now get the hell out of here. You are no longer needed.’

Alaric’s fists tightened, yet he remained silent.

"You may take your leave now. I have to~ .... bid farewell to my grandson," Jacob mumbled, his voice full of weight.

The brothers didn’t wait a second longer, their steps brisk. When they were crossing the living room, Brave and Elio walked in.

"Al, Dio, what are you doing at this time?" Brave questioned. He added, "How is Fabian doing? Did he regain consciousness? What’s the status?" Alaric and Dion kept mum. Brave took in the solemn atmosphere and their brothers’ grim faces. "Al, what’s going on?"

Alaric opened his mouth, but no words came out. Dion said, "Fabian~ .... he~ ...." He paused.

"Brother Dio, say it? What happened?" Elio pressed.

"Fabian died last night," Dion told them.

"WHAT???" Brave and Elio’s voices came out simultaneously. "How~ .... how did this happen? Why didn’t you tell us last night?"

Alaric glanced around, then mind-linked, ’We should go to the room first."

They wasted no time and went to Alaric’s room. Alaric and Dion gave them a detailed rundown of what had happened and also told them all about their doubts and Chris’s odd behaviour.

"Secretary Shadow said that?" Brave was shocked as well. He had met Chris a fair share of times. That well-behaved person made that sort of statement.

"That’s not everything. Jacob has declared that the extended treaty deal will be put on hold because of Fabian’s sudden demise and we are to return to Kimberg as early as possible," Alaric conveyed.

Brave immediately got up. "That’s~ .... That’s unfair. I will go talk to him right now." He was ready to go, but Alaric stopped him.

"Rave, don’t. He has made the decision. Let me report to Father about the situation. Then we will make our next move," Alaric muttered, with resolve in his eyes.
