Chapter 126: Chapter 125: Super Big Head

After bidding farewell to his companions from the Dragon Fang Squad, Hesia wondered how Fevik would contact him as she’d promised.

He had assumed the little fairy named Nimo would deliver the message.

But just as he got near Feipu Lane, a clear, slightly impatient voice echoed in his mind: "Come to the shop."

...

Inside the "Pulsating Goblin Head."

Hesia was currently staring blankly at the hideously ugly head on the counter.

The head’s skin was a sickly dark green, covered in pits and pockmarks, looking just like a rotten potato.

It had the appearance of an old crone, with wrinkles deep enough to trap a fly and an unsettling fleshy growth hanging from its lower right jaw.

Based on the skull structure, it was indeed humanoid, but its features... were a bit too wildly unrestrained.

"So? Are you satisfied?" Fevik’s voice came from the back room, and a moment later, her small figure zipped out. "This is the wand tip I promised you. I was thinking if I couldn’t find a suitable one, I’d just pick a mediocre one from my stock for you. But as luck would have it, I ran into a kind-hearted adventurer. She even invited me over to her place as a guest."

The lines Hesia had rehearsed—about how to tactfully ask to become her student—were instantly forgotten.

Although the Half-Elf Mage was just fulfilling her promise, to casually end a strange adventurer’s life for it was a bit too... demonic.

He asked tentatively, "This lady... did she... provoke you?"

"Provoke me? Not at all." Fevik looked at him matter-of-factly. "She just enthusiastically invited me to her house for a cup of tea. I thought it was a hassle, so I just killed her. Sigh, I guess you could say she was unlucky and hit on the wrong person."

’Spoken like a true Demon...’

"Here, stop spacing out. Bring me your Black Ebony Staff Material, and I’ll mount it for you while I’m at it," Fevik urged, seemingly oblivious to any wrongdoing in her actions.

Objectively speaking, judging by the faint, cold fluctuations of Magic Power emanating from the green head, it belonged to a Caster of at least the Professional Level. Its quality was far superior to the Dogman Mage’s skull, making it an excellent choice for a wand tip. But the thought of its origin...

"What are you hesitating for?" Fevik noticed his reluctance. "Don’t worry, I’ve already cleansed the lingering resentment and curses. I guarantee it won’t crawl out in the middle of the night to chat with you. Speaking of which, I should thank this Ghost Witch. Otherwise, it would have been hard to find an excuse when I went to grab Trist."

Hesia: "Huh?"

"You told me to keep it a secret, to not say you were the one who snitched."

Fevik tapped her temple with a small finger, wearing an expression that screamed, ’Aren’t I clever?’

"So, I threw the corpse of the Ghost Witch I just slaughtered near that cottage you mentioned. Then I pretended to be a passing Mage and ’captured’ Trist, who was hiding inside writing. He’s scribbling away furiously in my basement right now! But come to think of it, he was already writing when I got there. He said all his money had been drained by an Adventurer Squad a few days ago, so he had to write quickly to earn more."

’That’s right, that Adventurer Squad was us.’

’But... a Ghost Witch? Is that a type of Demon?’

"Lady Fevik, didn’t you say she was an adventurer?"

"Oh, that was her disguise."

"You don’t recognize it? This is a Green Ghost Witch. This type of creature is best at changing its form to lure victims back to its lair and torture them slowly. It’s normal that you don’t know about them; they’re not very common."

Hearing Fevik’s explanation, Hesia immediately felt a sense of relief.

Although he could have convinced himself to accept the wand tip, it still would have felt a little unsettling.

Since it was an evil Demon, he no longer had any psychological burden.

He quickly handed over the Black Ebony Staff Material. Seizing the opportunity while she seemed to be in a good mood, he ventured, "Fevik... Teacher?"

Fevik, who was gesturing how to mount the tip, froze. She looked up in surprise, her eyes filled with confusion. "Teacher? You’re talking to me?"

Hesia recited his prepared speech with a sincere tone, "Please allow me to call you that. You taught me Mage’s Hand and the improved Identification Skill. In my heart, you are already my mentor."

"Oh, that," Fevik waved her small, furry hand dismissively. "That was part of our deal; it’s nothing special. You want to learn new magic? No problem, I can teach you a few more. Let’s call it... um, a celebration for catching Trist!"

"No, what I mean is... I hope you will formally accept me as your student. To be honest, I don’t have a teacher. I’m self-taught in magic."

"It’s just that some old-timers don’t like their students..." Fevik muttered to herself before her words caught up with her. Her voice suddenly shot up. "Wait, you said you don’t have a teacher?"

She put down the staff material and zipped around Hesia in the air several times, as if examining a treasure unearthed from some ancient ruins.

"Your Magic Power flows very quickly, which means your natural magic recovery is extraordinary. Plus, you mentioned that the first magic you learned was the Earth Spike Technique... That’s not a spell one can easily master through self-study." She floated back in front of Hesia, her eyes filled with inquiry. "Logically, many Mages should have been fighting to take you as an apprentice. Why don’t you have a teacher? And where did you learn the Earth Spike Technique?"

Hesia took out David’s notebook and handed it over. "I found this. I learned the Earth Spike Technique from what’s written inside."

Fevik took the notebook and began to flip through it.

Perhaps because of the "spectacular" doodles and risqué fantasies inside, her expression became quite animated, and she even let out a "PFFT" of laughter. But when she saw the sloppy records about magic and the error-filled notes, her brow furrowed.

Soon, she closed the notebook and handed it back to Hesia, her gaze having changed. "The notes on the Earth Spike Technique in here... are full of holes. The fact that you could learn magic from something like this means your talent and luck are even a little better than I thought."

"However, you can’t get arrogant because of it..."

As she spoke, she suddenly picked up the Green Ghost Witch’s head from the table and turned to float toward the back room.

Hesia watched her clean-cut departure, and his heart sank.

’Was that... a rejection? It’s fine if she doesn’t want to, but why did she take the wand tip material she promised me? What a capricious Half-Elf!’

The next second, however, Hesia’s eyes widened.

A gigantic head, the size of a small keg, came bobbing out from the back room!

The head’s features were similar to the Green Ghost Witch’s, but its skin was black, its face more twisted and hideous, and it had a full head of long, seaweed-like hair. Most importantly—it was nearly twice the size of the previous Green Ghost Witch’s head!

A wave of Magic Power, far stronger than before, was emanating from this enormous black head.
