"Hehe~"

"(≖_≖)"

"Hehue~"

"Come on! Seriously, stop it already. You’re starting to gross me out a little. Is that bald old guy really that great?"

"He’s not bald!"

"Aha! I knew it! My deduction was spot on. You’re so out of it that you’re even denying reality... I can’t believe that, as your best friend, I let this happen."

"Huh? No, w-wait, Livvy, what are you talking about—"

"Silence, Miss Lys. The trial has begun, and anything you say may be used against you."

"T-trial? Why? I didn’t—"

"Lies. Everything you’ve said and are about to say is a lie. As judge, I find you guilty on all counts... starting with having an immoral relationship with your teacher and—"

"Stop! What kind of nonsense are you spouting? What’s all this about, all of a sudden?" (Lys)

Biancalys—better known as Lys to those close to her—panicked a little. She stepped forward and covered her friend’s mouth before she could keep spouting nonsense.

She looked around and, luckily, they were alone.

"Silentium" (Lys)

Both of them loved peace and quiet and usually had lunch in a secluded corner of this large academy; still, not knowing what else her friend might say, she created a soundproof barrier around them.

"Pfft! Do you think I’m stupid?I already scanned the area before I mentioned your scandal."

And when Lys finished casting the sound barrier, she removed her hand from her friend’s mouth.

She had a slight air of innate arrogance and seemed a bit offended that she’d been accused of doing something as foolish as that.

She was a short elf with gray hair and cyan highlights at the ends, which she wore in two low ponytails. She also wore large, thick-framed glasses and had slight dark circles under her eyes.

She was Olivia, a close friend of Biancalys.

"What scandal? What nonsense have you been talking about for the past while?" (Lys)

Lys, now that there was a barrier between them, was calmer and finally began to question her.

"Lys, Lys, Lys!, my dear friend Biancalys... Really, continuing to act ignorantly won’t get you anywhere. The facts are there, and it won’t do you any good to keep trying to hide the obvious." (Olivia)

Olivia continued speaking with a touch of indignation toward Lys, who seemed to want to insult her intelligence and keep trying to hide the obvious.

"Haah~. I guess the pressure of exams is getting to you... Hmm... Actually, I know a massage therapist who..." (Lys)

"Be quiet, I said. Don’t try to change the subject. This is about your immoral relationship with your fire magic teacher. Hey! Why does it look like it’s about to conjure a fireball?" (Olivia)

"Livvy, stop saying such ridiculous things or I’ll really get angry." (Lys)

Lys seemed unable to listen any longer to her friend’s deeply insulting words.

That she was in a relationship with a teacher was absolutely wrong—especially with that specific teacher—but Olivia didn’t seem willing to back down either.

"Hmph! You keep trying to deny it. Fine, I’ll believe you if you can refute or explain the following. Tell me, why is that bald teacher—who you obviously don’t get along with—suddenly so lenient with you? He even gave you some extra points, didn’t he? He was basically just giving them to you." (Olivia)

"... ~That bald guy—he made it really obvious." (Lys)

"Hey, I heard that whisper. Don’t underestimate an elf’s ears. Tell me, how do you explain that?" (Olivia)

"..." (Lys)

"Hmph! No answer, just as I expected. Anyway, that in itself is an answer, which brings me to my second point. All day long, every time there was a short break or between classes, instead of studying, you spent your time lost in your thoughts, and you keep letting out silly giggles and even blushing." (Olivia)

"I-I don’t..." (Lys)

"Quiet, I said! I’m talking! And I don’t want to hear any lies. You, who’s called the ’Queen of Burning Ice’ because of your cold and indifferent attitude even though you specialize in fire, spend all day with a little smile on your face." (Olivia)

"I told you not to mention that stupid nickname." (Lys)

"Don’t change the subject. Usually, when it was just the two of us, those were the only times you’d relax and smile. But now that you couldn’t stop flashing those little smiles all day long, more than one idiot fell head over heels for your charms; you even moved up in the academy’s beauty rankings. Now you’re in the top three."(Olivia)

"I didn’t do anything like that (ㆆ_ㆆ)." (Lys)

"It’s too late for you to put on that cold, indifferent face. You were doing it just now—it was even turning into a lecherous smile... Your whole face made it clear you were thinking about something indecent." (Olivia)

"I-I wasn’t thinking about anything indecent, I-I just thought that he-ah!" (Lys)

"Go on, don’t stop—continue what you were saying. ’He’—what?" (Olivia)

"..." (Lys)

"Ah, my dear friend Lys, you’re so easy to read... Even so, I’m really disappointed in you... I really didn’t think you’d be capable of using that kind of method to pass." (Olivia)

"H-how did you know...? Wait, what are we talking about now?" (Lys)

Lys was a little nervous, but she realized something was off about their conversation.

It didn’t seem to be quite adding up...

"Haah~. Playing it fool right to the end. Fine, I’ll just come out and say it, so we don’t keep playing dumb. You went and sold your precious innocence to Professor Sullivan in exchange for him not failing you, and not only that, but it seems that old man knows how to move his hips—to the point that he won over your body, mind, and heart—and that’s why you’ve been acting like a girl in love all day." (Olivia)

"Wait, stop right there. Eww, that’s gross! Seriously, stop it, ugh. What is that...? You’re really crazy... Are you sure you haven’t taken that so-called forbidden magic powder that’s been making the rounds at the academy?" (Lys)

"Hey, you’re the crazy one who hooked up with her professor to boost her grades." (Olivia)

"I told you to stop with that... Okay, I wanted to keep it a secret because it’s a sensitive matter, but I’ll tell you... Just make sure you don’t say a word." (Lys)

"Oh! You’re going to confess. That’s fine, but make sure you don’t go into details. I don’t think I can handle it. Uhem I mean, I don’t even want to imagine anything explicit involving that bald professor." (Olivia)

"Ugh!,Enough with that already, this is what really happened." (Lys)

Lys really wanted Olivia to stop bringing up that whole thing about her supposed relationship with the teacher, so even though she wanted to keep it a secret, she told her what really happened between the two of them.

..

.

"So you’re blackmailing him." (Olivia)

"Yes, so stop saying I’m having an inappropriate relationship with him. I already showed you the evidence." (Lys)

"Hmm, I guess so..." (Olivia)

Lys had finished telling the story. She even showed her the recording device containing the evidence she was using to blackmail the professor.

It really wasn’t very difficult for Lys to pull this off, since the professor was looking for any slight opportunity to make her life miserable.

"Well, you really do have a wild imagination. That bald old man is also to blame for being so obvious." (Lys)

"Yeah, obviously a lot of people noticed... I’m sure a rumor has already started... No, wait! You still haven’t explained everything to me. I’m not stupid—you still haven’t told me why you look like a girl in love." (Olivia)

"... (ㆆ_ㆆ)" (Lys)

"I already told you it’s too late to put on a cold, indifferent face. Spill it—what’s with those persistent little smiles and that look of a girl in love?" (Olivia)

"...I don’t have to tell you. I’ll exercise my right to remain silent." (Lys)

"That just confirms that you’re really hiding something else... Ah! Don’t tell me... Is it what I think it is?" (Olivia)

Lys really didn’t want to pursue the subject any further, which is why she wanted to stay silent, but Olivia didn’t seem willing to let it end there.

"W-what are you thinking now?" (Lys)

Lys really had a bad feeling about the conclusion her friend had reached.

"You’re a human, Yes. I recently spoke with my cousin, who lives in the human realm. This time she went on and on about how indecent, lustful, and unscrupulous humans are." (Olivia)

"Hey, that’s a generalization. Not all humans are like that. Oh, and if you’re talking about your cousin, you must be referri-" (Lys)

"Don’t try to change the subject, you indecent human being. I already know what happened. You saw an opportunity and didn’t let it slip by. Not only did you blackmail the professor to avoid failing, but you demanded his body, used him as you pleased, and ended up liking him so much that you couldn’t stop thinking about him all day. Yes, it wasn’t a mutual arrangement—it was you who insatiably wanted it all. Oh! And now that I think about it, he’s marri-!" (Olivia)

"Orbis Ignis.(ㆆ_ㆆ)" (Lys)

At that moment, Lys—who no longer seemed able to bear Olivia’s words—conjured a dangerous fireball and, without a moment’s hesitation, hurled it straight at Olivia’s head.

Her indifference was very real this time.
