Marvel: I Am The Lord of the Shadow Dimension
Chương 72: Chapter 72: Full-Scale War and the Little Pet 'K-Shadow'
Stepping through the portal, Luke and the Avengers arrived at Stark Tower. Looking up at the colossal, swirling rift in the sky, they watched as an endless tide of Chitauri poured through like a plague of locusts.
However, unlike the movie timeline, the Chitauri didn't immediately scatter to attack the city. Instead, they rapidly swarmed together, forming a massive, heavily fortified defensive perimeter around the Tesseract on the roof.
'Probably because Loki's original plan got completely derailed, so he's playing defense?'
Luke temporarily ignored the tactical shift. He looked out at the massive sea of alien invaders. In the shadows cast by the buildings below, thousands of glowing red eyes silently opened.
Seeing Luke cracking his knuckles, Steve quickly spoke up. "We need a plan of attack."
"The plan is..." Luke stretched his neck, grinning fiercely. "...we beat the absolute crap out of them!"
With a sweeping gesture, a literal ocean of pitch-black shadows erupted from beneath Luke's feet. As far as the eye could see, the ground turned entirely black.
Loki, sitting arrogantly on a throne of solid ice he had constructed on the tower's balcony, watched the encroaching tide of shadows. He held the Casket of Ancient Winters in his left hand. Setting the casket on the ground, a wave of absolute zero frost instantly expanded outward, freezing a radius of several hundred meters into a glacial wasteland.
'Now your annoying little shadow-puppets can't use their parlor tricks to sneak up on me,' Loki smirked. 'When it comes to stealth and illusions, you insects could never match a god!'
"Tear them apart!" Loki commanded the Chitauri.
Thousands of concentrated plasma bolts rained down from the Chitauri weapons, striking the encroaching darkness. However, the energy blasts merely dissipated a few wisps of shadow; they did absolutely nothing to halt the overwhelming advance of the Shadowkhan.
"Initiate aerial bombardment!" Seeing the ground forces failing to hold the line, Loki immediately ordered the Chitauri air cavalry to engage.
But as the nimble Chitauri chariots swooped down, dozens of massive Nightbats erupted from the shadows in the sky. The Nightbats unleashed a continuous barrage of devastating sonic blasts from their palms, effortlessly blowing the alien chariots out of the sky in rapid succession.
Every single Nightbat possessed combat capabilities far exceeding Tony Stark's early armor models. Their sonic barrages were relentless, completely decimating the first wave of Chitauri air support in minutes.
Watching nearly a thousand chariots get destroyed without inflicting any meaningful casualties on the enemy, Loki's expression grew incredibly dark.
Looking at the Chitauri foot soldiers around him, Loki sighed. These grunts were actually physically weaker than standard Earth military soldiers; their only advantage was their sheer, overwhelming numbers.
Realizing his current forces weren't enough, Loki turned to the mind-controlled Dr. Selvig, who was monitoring the portal generator.
"Maximize the portal's output!"
Selvig nodded mechanically, rapidly typing commands into his console. The Tesseract flared with blinding blue light, and the spatial rift in the sky violently expanded, growing several times its original size.
If the initial wave of Chitauri had been like locusts, the current wave was like a catastrophic, world-ending flood.
"What the f*ck?!" Dr. Banner cursed aloud, staring in sheer horror at the apocalyptic tide of aliens pouring from the sky.
"We need to find a way to close that portal!" Steve yelled over the deafening roar of the invasion.
Luke's expression turned incredibly serious. The situation had escalated far beyond the movie timeline. In the original battle, the Chitauri had funneled through relatively slowly. Right now, thousands of aliens were pouring through the massive rift every single second!
Glancing at the Mind Stone scepter strapped to Natasha's waist, Luke looked back up at the sky.
He immediately spent 100,000 Energy Points and sacrificed 10,000 standard Shadow Ninjas to synthesize 100 new Nightbats.
Seeing his aerial firepower double, allowing the Nightbats to successfully intercept and shoot down an incoming, massive Leviathan troop carrier, Luke breathed a slight sigh of relief. He currently didn't possess the ability to mass-produce the advanced Shadowkhan variants infinitely, so he had to rely on his own raw power to control the airspace.
"Tony, Thor, come with me! We'll intercept the aerial forces pouring out of the portal! Captain, you take Natasha and Barton and push toward the portal generator! Hulk!"
Luke looked at the massive green behemoth. "Tear apart everything in front of you!"
The Hulk offered a surprisingly simple, brutal grin. He let out a deafening roar and violently launched himself directly into the dense Chitauri frontlines.
The Chitauri defensive perimeter—which had been barely holding back the Shadowkhan through sheer volume of fire—was instantly shattered by the Hulk's impact. Ignoring the plasma fire raining down on him, the Hulk casually grabbed a Chitauri soldier with one hand and violently hurled the alien like a bowling ball, bowling over dozens of other soldiers.
Exploiting the massive gap the Hulk had just torn open, the Shadowkhan flooded forward, rapidly overwhelming the defensive line and pushing toward the portal generator.
The Avengers split up. Luke, Tony, and Thor shot into the sky to intercept the incoming waves, while Steve, Natasha, and Hawkeye followed the Hulk and the Shadowkhan toward the roof.
"Deploy the true vanguard," Loki ordered, watching the Avengers breach his first line of defense. He looked up at the newly expanded portal and smiled.
Massive, heavily armored Leviathans—colossal, flying cybernetic beasts—swam smoothly out of the portal, diving aggressively toward the Shadowkhan on the ground.
Several Nightbats immediately grouped together, charging a massive, synchronized sonic cannon blast, aiming directly at the lead Leviathan.
The devastating sonic attack, capable of tearing through high-tensile alloys, blew massive, bloody craters into the Leviathan's armored hide. However, given the beast's sheer, colossal size, it wouldn't bleed to death anytime soon. Furthermore, hundreds of Chitauri soldiers clinging to the sides of the Leviathan unleashed a devastating barrage of concentrated plasma fire, successfully vaporizing several of the less-durable Nightbats.
More Nightbats constantly launched from the ground, engaging the Leviathans in a brutal dogfight. While they managed to intercept and bring down several of the colossal beasts, the falling, burning wreckage of the Leviathans crushed large swaths of Shadow Ninjas on the ground below.
On the ground, Razor Claws blurred through the Chitauri ranks like phantoms, effortlessly slicing aliens into ribbons. However, specialized, heavily armored Chitauri shock-troops wielding massive flamethrower-like weapons quickly encircled the assassins, burning them away into dark mist.
While the Hulk effortlessly crushed these heavily armored troops like tin cans, a downed Leviathan crashed directly on top of him, pinning the green behemoth beneath thousands of tons of metal and temporarily removing him from the fight.
A squad of massive Troll Ninjas attempted to initiate a heavy charge to break the enemy lines, but Loki, watching from his balcony, casually fired a massive blast from the Casket of Ancient Winters. The absolute zero frost instantly froze the Trolls' feet to the pavement, turning the massive brawlers into sitting ducks for the Chitauri artillery.
The standard Shadow Ninjas attempted to swarm the enemy, but the Chitauri numbers were simply too vast. There were hundreds of thousands of aliens, laying down a completely impenetrable wall of suppressing fire that blanketed every square inch of the battlefield.
Furthermore, because Luke was currently engaged high in the sky, the destroyed Shadowkhan on the ground were too far away from his 'radiation radius' to instantly respawn. The ground forces were rapidly thinning out, putting immense pressure on Captain America and his team.
Hawkeye fired a specialized explosive arrow that pierced a Chitauri's neck before violently detonating into a localized shrapnel burst, instantly clearing the immediate area.
But immediately after, a Leviathan crashed nearby, and its armored deployment bays opened, disgorging over a thousand fresh Chitauri soldiers directly into the fray! The Leviathan then turned, intending to ram the Avengers' position, but the Hulk—having finally managed to heave the previous dead Leviathan off his back—violently leaped onto the new beast, brutally pinning its head to the pavement while thousands of Shadow Ninjas swarmed over it, literally dismantling the colossal beast piece by piece.
"Damn it! There's too many of them! They're like roaches!" Barton yelled over the comms, furiously firing arrows. Natasha was utilizing her gauntlet blasters and perfectly placed pistol shots to hold the line, while Steve desperately tried to push forward, using his shield to deflect the overwhelming barrage of plasma fire. But the shield was too small to cover him entirely, and he was taking minor hits. 1
Seeing the shadow army dwindling and their progress halted, Steve desperately yelled into his comms. "Luke! Do we have any reinforcements?!"
High above, Luke glanced down at the struggling ground team. He casually waved his hand, gathering a massive wave of dark energy that instantly annihilated a massive cluster of Chitauri soldiers pressing in on Steve.
Thor flew past Luke, unleashing a terrifying storm of divine lightning that instantly electrocuted hundreds of Chitauri chariots out of the sky. Thor then casually swung his hammer, striking Tony's armor with a massive, localized lightning bolt to overcharge the suit's reactors.
Riding the massive energy surge, Tony unleashed a devastating, omnidirectional barrage of sustained lasers from the Saturday armor, slicing every Chitauri within a hundred-meter radius into neat, smoking halves.
Sunday—Tony's newly animated Mark VII armor—flew alongside him. The silent knight armor fired three incredibly precise, microscopic laser beams, perfectly decapitating the pilots of three approaching chariots, sending the alien vehicles spinning wildly out of control before crashing.
"I'm going to call that move the 'Precision Scalpel,'" Tony joked over the comms.
Unexpectedly, Sunday struck a highly dramatic, anime-style pose mid-air. Tony blinked in confusion. 'Okay... apparently the personality matrix for this suit is slightly more eccentric than I anticipated.'
Megatron flew past them, unleashing a complex sequence of Kamar-Taj magical arrays. Devastating elemental spells and arcane blasts ripped through the Chitauri ranks, blowing the invaders to pieces. Noticing Sunday's ridiculous anime pose, Megatron snorted derisively over the comms channel.
Looking up at the seemingly endless tide of Chitauri still pouring out of the portal, Luke sighed heavily. 'Looks like I really have to bleed my wallet dry for this one.'
He opened dozens of small portals around himself. Shadow Ninjas on the other side began frantically tossing handfuls of 'One-Million Point' Dark Energy Crystals through the portals.
Watching the fortune in crystals raining down around him, Luke took a deep breath.
The Images of Ikonn!
This Kamar-Taj illusion spell was infinitely more advanced than Loki's parlor tricks, precisely because every single clone created by the spell possessed the ability to independently cast magic!
Instantly, hundreds of perfect dark energy clones materialized around Luke in the sky. The clones simultaneously unleashed a devastating, synchronized barrage of high-tier Eldritch magic, instantly annihilating every single Chitauri pouring out of the portal!
Luke clutched his chest in physical pain. The tactical results were absolutely phenomenal, but that single, massive synchronized barrage had just burned through nearly One Billion Energy Points!
Seeing that the ground was still swarming with hundreds of thousands of aliens, Luke gritted his teeth, pulled out a 'Ten-Million Point' crystal, and initiated a custom spell he had spent the last six months perfecting.
A colossal, terrifyingly grotesque, multi-eyed octopus monster materialized high in the sky above New York City.
Although the Ancient One had previously taken one look at this specific construct and locked Luke in solitary confinement for three days demanding he "cure his horrific aesthetic tastes," Luke had stubbornly stuck to his design. He had even upgraded it! He added extra eyeballs to the thruster tentacles to ensure flawless, 360-degree panoramic vision. After months of refinement, he had exponentially increased its size and granted it several devastating new abilities...
"What in God's name is that monstrosity?!" Tony yelled, staring at the colossal, writhing Cthulhu-monster in absolute, primal horror. It genuinely looked like the most terrifying, evil entity in existence.
"Calm down, it's just my little summon! Pretty cool, right? I call him 'K-Shadow' (Cthulhu-Shadow). I'm hoping he eventually grows up to be as strong as his namesake," Luke explained cheerfully. He then gathered the ambient dark energy from the destroyed Shadowkhan on the ground and fed it directly into K-Shadow, using the massive entity as a localized 'respawn beacon' to rapidly redeploy fresh Shadow Ninjas directly onto the battlefield.
"Damn it, I think I'm going to throw up," Tony groaned, literally flipping his faceplate open and violently dry-heaving toward the ground.
A Chitauri soldier on the ground, who had been furiously firing his plasma rifle, suddenly felt a bizarre, creeping shadow fall over him. He looked up, and his eyes locked onto the colossal, indescribable horror floating in the sky.
K-Shadow swam lazily through the air. Feeling slightly annoyed by the buzzing 'insects' shooting at it, the monster casually released a pulse of dark energy.
A visible, pitch-black ripple of absolute darkness erupted from K-Shadow's core, silently sweeping outward. Every single Chitauri caught within the ripple instantly, silently dissolved into absolute nothingness.
When dealing with a dark energy construct of this colossal magnitude, even a simple, localized communicative pulse was enough to instantly corrode and annihilate weaker biological entities.
Furthermore, because K-Shadow was constructed from tens of millions of highly concentrated, pure dimensional energy points, its very existence exerted an overwhelming, sanity-shattering psychic pressure on mundane mortal minds. According to Luke's research, the sheer, abyssal depth of the condensed dark energy caused severe cognitive overload in any normal biological entity that looked directly at it.
One of K-Shadow's massive tentacles casually reached out, snagging a passing Leviathan out of the air. Exactly like what Luke had done to Corvus Glaive, the dark energy instantly assimilated the colossal cyborg beast, turning it into raw energy that fed K-Shadow's core.
Feeling its power grow, K-Shadow happily let out another massive dark energy pulse, annihilating thousands more 'bugs.'
While lazily plucking Leviathans out of the sky and eating them like snacks, K-Shadow continuously extended its tentacles toward the ground, acting as a massive deployment pipeline to instantly spawn thousands of fresh Shadow Ninjas directly into the Chitauri ranks.
"Curse it! What is that foul abomination?!" Loki stared up at K-Shadow, suddenly feeling a violent, overwhelming urge to vomit. However, thanks to his incredibly durable Frost Giant physiology, he managed to suppress the physical reaction far better than Tony had.
"SHOOT IT DOWN!" Loki commanded the Chitauri forces.
Hundreds of thousands of Chitauri soldiers simultaneously looked up, locking their sights directly onto K-Shadow.
Instantly, they were hit by the overwhelming, sanity-shattering psychic backlash of gazing upon a condensed dimensional horror.
Crucially, the Chitauri operated on a unified, hive-mind consciousness. Their minds were perfectly linked to the central command ship floating in deep space.
When hundreds of thousands of Chitauri soldiers simultaneously experienced catastrophic cognitive overload, the massive, instantaneous surge of psychic feedback violently slammed directly into the hive-mind network!
Far away in deep space, aboard the Chitauri command vessel, the massive, oversized brains of over a thousand Chitauri command-nodes literally violently exploded inside their skulls!
Simultaneously, every single Chitauri soldier on Earth instantly collapsed to the ground, completely brain-dead.
"Whoa... K-Shadow's passive AoE damage is that high?!" Luke stared in shock as the entire invading army dropped dead like flies. He realized he might have accidentally created a truly apocalyptic weapon.
Seeing the entire enemy army neutralized, Luke happily hailed Captain America over the comms, telling them to rush the portal generator and close the rift.
But there was no response.
Luke looked down at the rooftop. Because Steve, Natasha, and Barton had been standing too close to K-Shadow when it unleashed its aura, the sheer psychic pressure had caused all three of them to pass out cold!
'Well, crap. Looks like my little pet has some friendly-fire issues.'
Luke sighed. He didn't want to immediately unsummon K-Shadow—it had cost way too much energy to cast. Instead, he ordered K-Shadow to absorb all the remaining Shadow Ninjas on the field, then instructed the colossal monster to fly directly upward, straight through the portal into deep space!
Glancing at the portal, Luke noticed that the Chitauri command ship had apparently recovered from the initial psychic shock and was preparing to launch a fresh wave of troops. 'Perfect. I'll just send K-Shadow directly to their house for dinner.'
"Tony, back up! I'm sending my pet through the portal to deal with their command ship," Luke announced over the comms. However, he quickly realized his headset was emitting nothing but static.
'Right. K-Shadow is a massive, walking EMP of dimensional energy. It completely scrambles mundane radio frequencies.'
Waving his hands, Luke signaled Tony and Thor to fall back. He then summoned K-Shadow closer to himself.
After loading every single remaining Shadow Ninja into the monster's internal dimension, Luke gently patted K-Shadow's massive, writhing tentacle. To him, this terrifying, sanity-shattering horror was just a cute, reliable little minion.
"Go destroy that massive ship," Luke ordered.
K-Shadow happily chirped (a sound that would undoubtedly cause a normal human's ears to bleed) and swam gracefully up through the portal. The harsh, freezing vacuum of deep space didn't bother K-Shadow in the slightest. In fact, away from the chaotic, conflicting natural energies of Earth's atmosphere, K-Shadow felt incredibly comfortable in the void.
Watching his pet pass through the portal, Luke breathed a sigh of relief. Looking at the hundreds of dark energy clones still hovering around him, Luke made a bold decision. He instantly dispelled every single clone, funneling their remaining billions of Energy Points directly into K-Shadow!
Fueled by billions of units of raw dimensional energy, K-Shadow's physical size expanded exponentially, growing to the size of a small moon! It happily swam toward the massive Chitauri command ship.
The sheer, overwhelming density of K-Shadow's dark energy aura was so incredibly potent that even the colossal Leviathans defending the command ship instantly passed out from the psychic pressure, allowing K-Shadow to happily gobble them up like floating popcorn.
"Uh... did anyone else just see something incredibly messed up?" Steve's groggy voice suddenly crackled over the comms.
Luke looked down and saw that the ground team had finally regained consciousness.
"It's nothing, just my new pet. But he has some minor friendly-fire issues, so I sent him to play in outer space. Hurry up and close the portal while the coast is clear!" Luke replied, flying down toward the roof alongside a still-nauseous Tony and Thor.
However, just as the battle for New York seemed to be wrapping up...
In a dark, secluded alleyway several miles away, a group of figures silently materialized out of thin air. 1
