Martial Cultivator
Chapter 1029.1: Second Rain - Part 1
Chen Chao also waited patiently for the answer.
After remaining silent for a long time, the Divine Daughter finally shook her head, "There aren't many. Producing even one is difficult."
Above the Fuyun Realm lay a realm that was unimaginably difficult to reach. Let alone having several people attain it, even producing a single one was no easy matter.
Many eras might not even have such an existence.
Chen Chao frowned, unable to speak for a moment.
The Divine Daughter said softly, "The Fuyun Realm can be said to be the broadest of all realms in this world. If every other realm has an end that can be seen with the eye, then the Fuyun Realm is like that line once spoken by Sword Immortal Li, who was unmatched in both poetry and swordsmanship - it truly stretches ninety thousand miles."
Stepping into the Fuyun Realm and painstakingly cultivating until reaching the very end of the Fuyun Realm were the marks of two completely different cultivators. Although they were within the same realm, the gap between them was no different from the gap between cultivators of two separate realms.
The simplest example was still when the Great Liang Emperor journeyed overseas and fought an entire mountain by himself at Mount Qiuling, terrifying the many Fuyun Realm cultivators there.
"So reaching the end of the Fuyun Realm is extremely difficult. Stepping into that higher realm is even harder."
The Divine Daughter looked at Chen Chao and said calmly, "The Northern Frontier Divine Mountain existed for 1,300 years. Throughout its history, it produced countless heaven's chosen, yet not a single one reached that realm."
Chen Chao did not answer immediately, instead continuing to ponder. If those deities were not truly deities but merely a group of cultivators, perhaps their realm was not actually that much higher. Perhaps they had simply walked much farther along the Fuyun Realm, and that alone was enough to suppress figures like the Sect Master of Rongshan Sect until they met their end with regrets.
Chen Chao asked, "Elder Sister, do you know of Rongshan Sect?"
The Divine Daughter glanced at Chen Chao and shook her head, "Never heard of it."
Chen Chao nodded slightly. Since the Divine Daughter did not know of it, then the two sects probably did not belong to the same era. But Chen Chao quickly asked again, "Then what about Fuyun Sect?"
He recalled the page he had obtained at Rongshan Sect. From its contents, he had previously deduced that it was likely the final words of the last Sect Master of Fuyun Sect.
The Divine Daughter nodded, "It is said to have been an ancient sect. The founder of Fuyun Sect once participated in establishing the names of cultivation realms. The words 'Fuyun' came from him. Afterward, he founded the sect with that name and called himself Daoist Fuyun."
Judging from the Divine Daughter's two reactions, Chen Chao roughly guessed that among all the ancient sects he knew of, Fuyun Sect should have been the earliest, not in terms of strength, but in terms of time. Northern Frontier Divine Mountain should have existed somewhere in the middle, while Rongshan Sect should have been the sect closest to the present era.
Chen Chao fell silent for a moment before getting straight to the point, "Elder Sister, how was Northern Frontier Divine Mountain destroyed back then?"
Upon hearing this question, the Divine Daughter remained silent for a very long time.
Yu Xiyi grew somewhat anxious, but it was not appropriate for him to interrupt, so he could only scratch his head.
Chen Chao said, "Did a burning meteor shower appear in the sky, followed by some terrifying beings that seemed like deities?"
The Divine Daughter looked up at Chen Chao. After a moment of silence, she said, "It seems you already know."
Chen Chao sighed softly, "So it really was the same."
The destruction of Rongshan Sect had happened this way. The destruction of Northern Frontier Divine Mountain had also happened this way.
That proved one thing. After a certain period of time, a group of so-called deities of unknown origin would appear in this world. Possessing overwhelming power, they would carry out a cleansing of all the cultivators in the world.
As for why they did this, or how long passed between each occurrence, no one knew.
Yu Xiyi muttered, "Damn it... doesn't that mean that even if we cultivate to the Fuyun Realm, there'll still be a bunch of guys hiding in the shadows who can wipe us out whenever they feel like it?"
Zhu Xia frowned and asked curiously, "But why?"
"They're already so powerful, standing at the very peak of the world. Why would they still do something like this?"
Zhu Xia's question was simple and direct.
But no one could answer her.
Chen Chao said, "It's like a game played on a whim - casual and utterly wanton."
His sudden remark made the Divine Daughter glance at him. Chen Chao merely smiled bitterly, and the Divine Daughter said nothing, because she knew Chen Chao was right.
That group of existences, whether they were gods or humans, stood at an extremely high realm. They were capable of wiping out an entire era, yet they were not so meticulous. Instead, they left behind so many flaws and clues, allowing certain surviving cultivators to learn parts of the truth. But even after learning it, there was no way to resist. They could only watch fate repeat itself again and again.
To those cultivators, it was an immense torment, but to those existences, perhaps it was merely amusement they had created for themselves.
The Divine Daughter looked at Chen Chao and said, "I didn't tell you before because I was afraid that after learning the truth, you would fall into despair. There have been many heaven's chosen in this world who might have reached unimaginable heights, but because they learned these truths too early, they lost heart and perished."
If even reaching the very peak only meant being toyed with by others, then why bother walking that path at all? Wouldn't it be better to simply live one's life however one pleased?
"Now that you know the truth, what will you do?"
The Divine Daughter looked at Chen Chao. She was very curious about his answer. She did not want this young martial artist to become equally dejected and lose his spirit.
Chen Chao looked at the Divine Daughter and smiled, "At least the world isn't going to be destroyed tomorrow. I still have many things to do, so I'll keep moving forward. If there are still a hundred years left, then the people of the Great Liang Dynasty should at least enjoy a hundred more years of good days. During those hundred years, they won't have to worry about being eaten by demons, nor will they have to keep their heads lowered. As for a hundred years from now, if I'm still around, I'll do my best to let those good days continue."
The Divine Daughter was somewhat surprised by that answer, but what she did not know was that although Chen Chao also wanted to uncover the world's secrets, what he cared about even more was how to deal with the matters before him.
The demons were preparing to march south. A great war was on the verge of breaking out. If they could not stop the demons outside the Northern Frontier Great Wall, then the Great Liang Dynasty would already have fallen. If the Great Liang Dynasty was gone, then whether that day came or not would no longer matter.
Chen Chao smiled, "I'm the Great Liang's Lord Warden Commander now."
Wherever one stood, one should fulfill the responsibilities of that position.
"I'll protect Great Liang first. As for everything else, let me think of a solution."
Chen Chao rubbed his head and casually smacked Yu Xiyi on the head, "Stop thinking about it. You might not even live to see that day."
Yu Xiyi was not angry. Instead, he raised an eyebrow, "Little Chen, you're really not worried about something like this? I've got chills running down my back. It feels like there's a sword hanging over my head, and I don't know when it'll come crashing down!"
Hearing that, Chen Chao actually looked up before smiling, "Just bear with it for now, there's no rush."
A person like Chen Chao was never the type to sit around waiting to die. As long as there was a chance, he would definitely do something.
