Martial Cultivator
Chapter 1024.1: Uninvited Guest - Part 1
The Divine Daughter's words could be said to have laid bare Autumn's true thoughts with a single sentence.
Autumn did not speak. In the Divine Daughter's eyes, that counted as a tacit admission.
The Divine Daughter became interested and curiously asked, "When did you start liking him?"
Autumn glanced at the Divine Daughter and did not speak immediately, but it was not because she did not want to answer. She was simply thinking about the answer.
To her, the Divine Daughter was different from the other human powerhouses. She had never shown her any malice. That fact alone was enough to make Autumn willing to sit down calmly and chat with her.
"I can't say."
Autumn answered honestly, but still looked at the Divine Daughter, as if worried she might think she was lying.
The Divine Daughter smiled faintly, seemingly having expected such an answer.
"Only then is it truly liking someone. If you can clearly say at exactly what moment you fell for someone, then it is not real love."
The Divine Daughter smiled calmly and said, "Feelings between a man and a woman are like this. They cannot be explained clearly. Before you know it, they become entangled. Since you do not know how the entanglement began, separating is even more troublesome. There are countless threads connecting everything. If you really want to sort them all out, it would be easier to simply cut through them with a single stroke."
Autumn looked at the Divine Daughter and said, "Bit of a pity."
Autumn had always been this sort of person, indifferent and sparing with words. The four words from her likely carried many meanings.
The Divine Daughter smiled and said, "There are many regrettable things. Such as the difference between humans and demons. Such as standing on opposite banks of a river, with the current rushing so fiercely that neither person can cross it, and naturally neither has ever intended to cross."
Autumn said, "Not just that."
The Divine Daughter was startled, then looked very carefully at the glabella of the woman before her. After looking for a long time, she said with some pity, "Pitiful."
If it were merely a difference in position that prevented them from standing on the same side, then though it would be somewhat regrettable, at least there would still be feelings between them. But judging from Autumn's appearance now, the person on the other side had never harbored any affection for her at all.
That was why it was pitiful.
Autumn said calmly, "Actually, this is fine too. It does not really affect anything. Liking is liking, but when it is time to kill, I will still kill."
The Divine Daughter was silent for a while before saying, "You truly are a very rare sort of woman. Ordinary people would be hopelessly conflicted in a situation like this."
Autumn did not speak. Some things were simply different from person to person.
The Divine Daughter suddenly asked, "You said you are waiting for him. Why would he come here?"
"He fought a battle with my Royal Father and suffered severe injuries. I'm afraid that aside from this divine medicine, there is no other way for him to recover those injuries in a short period of time."
Autumn still hid nothing. In truth, there seemed to be nothing worth hiding.
The Divine Daughter smiled. "So he has come this far already. That truly makes me happy."
"That Royal Father of yours would be considered a powerhouse even in my era. Back then, on the Northern Frontier Divine Mountain, aside from the old mountain lord who remained in seclusion year-round, there was probably no one who could fight him."
Autumn reminded her, "He could only fight him. In the end, he still lost."
The Divine Daughter shook her head and said, "At his age, that is already remarkable. His cultivation talent would probably belong among the most outstanding of countless eras. He is a true peerless genius of all ages. The only people who could compare with him are probably those few figures who founded sects and became progenitors upon the various cultivation paths."
At this point, the Divine Daughter raised her head and looked at the sky. Multicolored radiance flickered within her eyes. In this era, such an extraordinary hero had appeared. Was it heaven's mercy, intending to change that tragic story?
No one knew how much time passed before the Divine Daughter withdrew her gaze, looked at Autumn, and spoke a meaningful sentence, "Some things that people care deeply about are actually not that important at all."
Autumn looked at her, not knowing what she meant, and so said nothing.
The Divine Daughter shook her head and sighed.
Some things simply cannot be forced. For all things in the world, trying too deliberately to change something often produces the opposite result. In the end, the best way to deal with everything is actually those give words.
Let nature take its course.
It was just like the feelings between the two of them. Autumn liked Chen Chao, but it stopped at liking him. At most she would come and see him. Beyond that, there was nothing else. When it was time to kill, she would still kill. Just like that day in the desolate north, when Chen Chao passed through the desolate north and did not kill Autumn, it was not because he liked her or could not bear to kill her. It was simply because if he had killed her then, he himself would not have been able to leave the desolate north alive.
If he had had the opportunity to kill Autumn and retreat unscathed, then Autumn would certainly have died there, just like during the previous battle in the desolate north. If the Demon Emperor had not intervened to save Autumn, then she would have died just as surely.
The two stood on opposite banks of a river, and neither had any intention of crossing to the other side. In their hearts, there were always more important things to do.
Moreover, Chen Chao had liked that girl surnamed Xie from beginning to end.
"I understand now. He knows that only that divine medicine can heal his injuries, so he will come here to ask me for it. So you came here to wait for him, and at the same time see whether you could kill him?"
The Divine Daughter looked at the woman before her and exposed the thought she had hidden in the deepest part of her heart.
"But it seems you have not considered that if I do not allow you to kill him, then no matter what, you will not be able to kill him."
The Divine Daughter looked at her and added, "If his injuries recover and he wants to kill you, and I do not stop him, then you will certainly die here."
Autumn did not speak. Coming to human territory was indeed risky, and she knew very clearly that as long as he had the opportunity, Chen Chao would try to kill her.
The best choice had not been to come here, but to wait outside the entrance and see whether she could kill him there.
But for some reason, she had still walked in.
The Divine Daughter said with some pity, "A woman who has fallen in love is often the one who suffers. Sometimes she does not realize it herself; it is simply unconscious."
As she spoke, the white deer appeared at some point carrying some flowers and grass in its mouth. The Divine Daughter reached out and took them. Very quickly, she wove a flower crown, then walked over to Autumn, placed it on her head, and smiled, "I like you very much."
After saying this, she added regretfully, "What a pity."
She also liked Chen Chao.
It would have been wonderful if the two of them were a pair, but they were not.
Wearing the flower crown, Autumn caught the fragrance of the flowers. The white deer walked over and rubbed against her. Autumn reached out and patted the deer's head, then asked, "May I ask how much longer it will take for that divine medicine to mature?"
The Divine Daughter came back to her senses. She looked at Autumn, and asked with a smile, "The last time you came, you already wanted my divine medicine. Now that you ask again, it seems you want it very badly. Not for yourself?"
Autumn said, "Legend says that a divine medicine can bring the dead back to life and regenerate flesh from bare bones. Even the dead can be saved. I want to use it to..."
