The booms of spiritual qi grew significantly stronger. Slowly but surely, the crimson lightning dimmed and vanished from Ye Xuan’s body, no longer striking out from him.

Ye Xuan opened his eyes, and a wave of qi spread across the whole area, blowing up a strong wind that startled everyone.

Yan Jin watched and saw clearly that this wave was the last one to burst out of Ye Xuan’s body.

"He did it. He hasn’t reached Foundation Establishment, but his cultivation base jumped four levels straight to Peak Qi Gathering," Yan Jin said.

After several more waves of spiritual qi spread from his body, Ye Xuan finally descended to the ground.

His feet touched the ground, and he looked far more stable than he had during the Blood Pledge.

Yan Jin ordered his people to open the protective dome formation. Soon it opened and vanished. Ye Xuan turned and looked at Yan Jin.

He pressed his hands together and bowed his head respectfully. "Greetings, Clan Chief Yan Jin."

"Impressive, Brother Ye. You and Senior Sister Qingyu managed to calm that crimson lightning surge," Yan Jin said, "I can also see your cultivation base has risen sharply, no doubt thanks to the qi in those lightning essences."

"Qingyu helped me a great deal. She absorbed part of the lightning qi from the essences, so my body could take in only as much lightning qi as it could handle," Ye Xuan said.

"Oh, so that’s how it worked. I’m glad to hear it," Yan Jin replied.

Ye Xuan held out his hand for Qingyu to climb onto him. The white snake wrapped itself around his neck and went back to sleep there.

Yan Jin watched Qingyu and smiled, glad to see them both safe.

"Senior Sister Qingyu looks exhausted. That’s natural, since she helped you for a full week," Yan Jin said. "For now, let her rest, Brother Ye."

"Yes, I understand."

A system panel appeared in front of his face, showing that the seal’s strength was down to only 84%.

The Blood Pledge must have something to do with it. Perhaps Qingyu’s absorption of the lightning qi weakened the seal.

"I’ve done what Senior Sister Qingyu wanted, and I can’t hold you here if you wish to leave," Yan Jin said.

Ye Xuan looked around. Although the members of the Blazing Flame Serpent Clan acknowledged that Qingyu was special, they still seemed unwilling to accept Ye Xuan.

Because of that, Ye Xuan had no choice but to leave, if only so the Blazing Flame Serpent Clan’s city wouldn’t fall into chaos from his staying too long.

"We were planning to leave anyway. If Chief Yan Jin doesn’t mind, we need help getting back to the surface," Ye Xuan said.

"Of course," Yan Jin said. "Follow me."

He followed Yan Jin from behind, leaving the Blood Pledge altar until they reached the farthest edge of the city.

They stopped right in front of a teleportation altar.

"This teleportation altar will take you straight to the surface. But be careful, because you’ll arrive inside the Scarlet Moon Forest," Yan Jin said.

"I understand."

Ye Xuan stepped in and stood in the very center of the altar. Yan Jin formed a hand seal and sent his red qi into the altar’s core, making the whole place glow bright red.

"Senior Sister Qingyu’s future rests in your hands. Whatever happens, don’t let anyone discover her true identity before she regains her strength."

"Don’t worry. I’ll take good care of her, Chief Yan Jin," Ye Xuan said.

In an instant, a pillar of red light blazed up and carried Ye Xuan away.

Yan Jin stayed in front of the altar for a moment, then turned and walked back to the clan hall.

Elsewhere, a pillar of blazing red light flared dazzlingly.

Ye Xuan opened his eyes and found he had arrived on the surface, standing on a stone altar surrounded by trees.

I’m back... I should use this moment to test my strength.

Ye Xuan tapped his bag of holding and summoned his sword, which floated beside him through the power of his qi threads.

He stepped away from the altar and came across a group of scorpion monsters.

"I don’t know what stage you are, but judging by the qi aura and your bodies, I’d guess you’re spirit-stage monsters."

"This will be a good start, even though my cultivation base hasn’t reached Foundation Establishment."

"But it’s enough to kill you!"

The scorpions rushed forward and attacked. Ye Xuan swept his hand forward and sent his sword flying at them.

To his surprise, the sword shot forward with great force and struck the monsters squarely.

Even more startling, the sword’s attack gave off crimson lightning, identical to the lightning that had nearly killed him.

He drew the sword close and studied it carefully. He had never imagined his sword carried such a dominant lightning qi element.

As far as I know, my natural element is Fire. Could my element have changed after I absorbed the lightning essence?

Ye Xuan was silent for a moment, then tried to summon fire qi in his hand. That surprised him again, because he could still call up the fire.

Does that mean... I have two elements in my body?

More scorpions arrived once they noticed the fight. Ye Xuan acted fast. He gripped his sword and touched the blade, summoning blazing fire.

Curious about his power, Ye Xuan added crimson lightning to the blade. The two elements merged into a stronger force.

"Time to test these two elements!" Ye Xuan declared.

He shot forward, swinging his sword and cutting down the scorpion monsters while dodging their stingers and pincers.

He kept attacking, slashing and thrusting. Ye Xuan defeated them, spirit-stage monsters he could never have beaten before.

The scorpions fell and their bodies became carcasses. His hand reached out and took the monster cores into his palm.

Unlike mortal-beast monster cores, spirit-beast monster cores had their own advantages.

Ye Xuan had read that cores of that grade could be used for pill refining or as potion ingredients.

"I’d better use this time to keep training."

As he was about to attack the other monsters, Ye Xuan’s attention was pulled away by a faint woman’s voice from another direction.

"Somebody help me!"
