Married To My One Night Mistake
Chapter 78: Clearly a love triangle
As soon as Newton answered the phone, Selen immediately began to explain because she could only imagine him being worried about her not responding to him in over twelve hours.
"Hey, yesterday was so hectic and I barely had enough time to be on my phone and respond to your texts. And we left bright and early this morning, so-" Newton interrupted her, his jealousy flying out the window immediately he heard her voice.
"No, it’s fine. I was just worried about you and the kids." He said. "I’m glad that you are all fine. When will you be returning to the city? I missed you all" he asked her the question on his mind. And when Selen mentioned that they were a few minutes away, he felt better.
"And how is Diana?" He asked her. Selen looked back and stared at Diana who was just staring out the window of the SUV in silence with a small smile on her face. "She is great. I think this might have actually been good for her." She said truthfully to Newton.
Clancy had been on his phone, typing away orders to his workers, but when Clancy heard this, a smile appeared on his lips. This felt like the closest he would get of Selen’s honest opinion about the beach day and he was taking it. "Okay, although I have to be at work as soon as I arrive, we could have coffee later," she said to Newton.
Clancy could not help the small scowl that made its way to his face. She was having lunch with him? Maybe it was her other friend, JK, who tried to convince himself. And work?
"You have had a long twenty-four hours, don’t you think you should skip work to rest up even just for today?" He asked her in a low tone.
"I need to show up. Even if it is just for an hour" she responded stubbornly, her soft tone had vanished with the call. Clancy did not argue. After that, the silence resumed and Selen stared outside her window while Clancy took out his phone and resumed typing away.
Diana was slowly drifting to sleep alongside the boys at the back seat when their home slowly came into view. The driver stopped at the gate and rolled the windows down, "the other car is with us," the driver said, referencing the second car that had been following them the entire time with their bags.
After their routine security check, they let the car in. And as soon as the two cars pulled into their driveway, the kids woke up, relieving the adults of carrying them up to their rooms. Everyone trooped out of the car and headed inside while both drivers carried the bags, baskets and coolers inside.
"Alright kiddos, I have to go now" Clancy announced immediately after the last bag was dropped. The children said goodbye to him and he left in one of the cars to his new home in Spain- The place he wanted to become their home one day.
Everything was done. From the individual paint colours in each room to the playground outside. Everything was ready for them to live in. The home looked like a vacation home. One that you could feel comfortable in whenever you came in but you knew that it was not your only home
He would be lying if he said he wanted this to be their main house. He wanted all of them to be in England together. Which was why when he reconnected with the kids, he made the interior to convey his intentions.
But he could not just rip them away from what they were used to, that would be selfish of him. Especially to the kids, they were just getting used to him, there was no way they would easily forgive him if he took them away from the places and people they had known their entire lives.
He came out of the house and got into the car. "To The Primrose" He said to his driver after giving the house one last look. The primrose was the name of one of his hotels and that was where he would be spending the next couple of days.
He was not going to stay there unless it was with his family. That was the point of building the home, it was for all of them.
As Clancy changed into a more comfortable set of clothes, he saw a text message from his father. During the past years Clancy’s father only ever texted him once every year.
Jimmy believed that if a matter was urgent then a call was the best way to relay the message faster. And since they were never in positions where their calls did not go through, they never changed the pattern. Except once a year.
Every year, Jimmy would text his son exactly three days to his birthday and they would do some sort of reckoning of what Clancy had achieved in the past year the day after the message. They did this two days before the main date of his birthday.
They usually spent the day doing the most random things. Sometimes it was as simple as taking a walk around a park. But those few hours made young Clancy want to do something significant before his next birthday.
And for the past seven years, they did not do that. But his father was holding on to the faith that his son had genuinely grown to accept and learn from what he had been faced with over the past years.
If Clancy accepted, it was going to be a hell of a walk that they were going to have with all that happened within the past year in his life and catching up on the six years before that. He read the text message, the exact same that his father sent every year, "What would you like to do on the 17th?" The text read.
Clancy read the text over and over again. Exactly the same as years ago. He was not even in the same city as his father, but that was not an excuse for someone with a private jet, was it?
