’It figures. You have to be harsh with Ryan Linden for him to finally get the message!’

He was so arrogant in front of Nathan Fawcett before. Now, the moment he heard Nathan was going to send him to jail, he went completely silent.

Soon, the Linden father and son walked out.

Anne Sutton stood at the door. Before leaving, the father-son duo didn’t even glance her way, which was a change from before.

’They looked like beaten dogs with their tails between their legs!’

The house next door had already been sold.

Once they returned, Ryan and Victor Linden would have to move all their things out.

In the living room, Lana Langley sat to one side. After so many years with Ryan Linden, she had always put up with his temper and was used to her life revolving around him.

Now that she had divorced Ryan Linden and was raising her child alone, she would no longer be constrained by him. A sense of relief washed over her, yet it was mixed with an indescribable feeling.

But still...

’Finally getting this divorce is a good thing for me!’

Seeing Anne Sutton return, she spoke up. "Anne, you’re back!"

Anne Sutton nodded. "The house next door sold that quickly?"

Caleb Summers said, "Houses in this neighborhood are in high demand."

Besides, living right next to the Linden Family, people would assume it was an auspicious location and naturally want to bask in the family’s good fortune.

If they wanted to sell, a house like this could be sold at any time.

Anne Sutton sat down. "That’s true."

Nathan Fawcett had already sent the lawyers home, as everything was more or less taken care of. Anne Sutton’s gaze landed on Lana Langley. Lana looked at Anne and smiled. "I divorced Ryan Linden."

"Congratulations!" said Anne Sutton.

Lana Langley said, "They’re planning to buy a house in the suburbs and move there. Donna and I are also getting ready to move out."

"You’ve already found a place?" Anne Sutton asked, looking at Lana.

Lana Langley replied, "Yes, we have! I was always afraid to move out before, worried that Ryan Linden would come and cause trouble. That’s why we stayed."

She had a job and an income now. While she couldn’t live the extravagant life she once had, it was enough to raise her son and live simply.

Anne Sutton said, "Congratulations to you."

Lana Langley had been living here for a long time; of course, she couldn’t stay forever.

After letting Anne Sutton and Nathan Fawcett know, Lana Langley went upstairs to rest.

She had taken the day off, so it was the perfect time to get her affairs in order.

...

By the end of the day, the Linden household seemed to have quieted down considerably.

Ryan Linden’s family had moved out, and the old man was now in the countryside.

Anna Linden returned late that evening, leaving just Anne Sutton, Nathan Fawcett, and the two children at home.

Caleb Summers had also stayed for dinner that evening.

He left right after he finished eating.

Anne Sutton sat at the dining table, watching Finn and Ian.

She turned to Nathan Fawcett and asked, "Is everything settled for Finn’s schooling?"

"It’s settled," Nathan Fawcett said. "He’ll go to school with Ian from now on. Ian, at school, if your little brother doesn’t understand something, remember to help him out."

Ian nodded upon hearing Nathan Fawcett’s words.

Nathan Fawcett continued, "I’ve had someone get Finn’s room ready. Finn, you can sleep in your own room tonight."

"By myself?" Finn asked, looking at Nathan Fawcett in surprise.

Nathan Fawcett looked at him and nodded. "Yes. Don’t you want to have your own room?"

"I’m a little scared," Finn said cautiously.

Nathan Fawcett looked at the little guy. "What’s there to be afraid of? It’s okay, you’re a big boy now."

Despite saying that, after dinner, Nathan Fawcett personally took Finn to his room and showed him around.

Even though he wasn’t his biological father, he was even more patient with Finn than he was with Ian.

Perhaps it was because he knew Finn didn’t have a father that he felt he had to be the one to spend more time with the child.

Anne Sutton took a shower, then went to check on Ian. Seeing that he was already fast asleep, she went back to her room.

Nathan Fawcett wasn’t back yet.

Anne Sutton lay in bed, but after trying for a while, she couldn’t fall asleep. She called the housekeeper in.

She asked, "Where’s Nathan Fawcett?"

The housekeeper replied, "He’s in Mr. Finn’s room."

"I see." Anne Sutton waved her hand. "You may go."

The housekeeper bowed, walked out, and closed the door behind her.

Anne Sutton lay in bed. ’Finn just got here,’ she thought, ’so it’s perfectly normal for Nathan to be a little more attentive to him.’

...

Meanwhile, Nathan Fawcett was still in Finn’s room.

He was lying on the bed, reading a story to the little one.

Finn wasn’t used to sleeping alone in such a big room, so Nathan Fawcett was staying to keep him company.

Finn only fell asleep after Nathan had nearly finished reading an entire book.

Nathan Fawcett glanced at the time and realized how late it had gotten.

He left Finn’s room, closing the door behind him, and returned to his own.

He gently pushed the door open and saw that the lights were off. ’Anne must be asleep already.’

Not wanting to wake her, Nathan Fawcett tiptoed into the room and climbed into bed.

...

He lay down and reached over to pull the blanket over Anne Sutton, only to find she was awake.

He asked, "You’re not asleep?"

Anne Sutton chuckled. "What are you being so sneaky for?"

Nathan Fawcett reached over to adjust his pillow. "I thought you were asleep, so I didn’t turn on the light. I was afraid I’d wake you."

"Well, aren’t you the thoughtful one."

Nathan Fawcett said, "Finn said he was too scared to sleep alone, so I stayed until he fell asleep. Sorry to keep you waiting."

"I wasn’t waiting for you," Anne Sutton said. "I just couldn’t sleep because I was thinking about what happened today."

"What happened today?"

"It’s all hospital business. You wouldn’t really get it even if I explained," Anne Sutton said. "Anyway, it has nothing to do with you."

His eyes having adjusted to the dark, Nathan Fawcett looked at her, leaned in, and kissed her on the forehead. "Think about work tomorrow. Time to sleep."

Anne Sutton let him pull her into his arms, and soon, Nathan Fawcett was fast asleep.

Listening to the rhythm of his sleeping breath, she resignedly pulled the blanket up properly.

The next morning, just as Anne Sutton arrived at the hospital, the couple from yesterday showed up again. "Dr. Sutton."

"..." Anne Sutton sighed. "Why are you two here again?"

"About that matter I mentioned before, could you please help us out?" the man said with a pleading look. "We’re actually good acquaintances with President Fawcett."

Anne Sutton’s expression darkened. "I can’t help you with what you’re asking, and I won’t."

What era was this? Who still tried to find out the gender of an unborn child? It was an absurd request, and of course, Anne Sutton would never agree to it.

But just because they had some business dealings with Nathan Fawcett, they thought they could ask her for this favor.

They had even offered her money.

She found the whole situation laughable.

She didn’t want to waste her time on them.

After finally managing to get away from the couple, Anne Sutton passed by the pediatrics department and saw Leo and Mia Shaw.

Leo stood with his back pressed against the wall while Mia Shaw stood before him. "Still crying?" she demanded.

Hearing her, he was so frightened he clamped his lips shut.

Mia Shaw stared at him. "Let me tell you, my patience is very limited. Your father is always at work; he doesn’t have time to deal with you. As for your mother... she abandoned you a long time ago! Now, I’m the only one at home in charge of you, understand?"
