Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune
Chapter 337: Aren’t You Working?
Anne Sutton hadn’t expected Nathan Fawcett to do something like that.
She said, "Maybe he’s busy!"
"It doesn’t matter anymore," Anna Linden said to Anne Sutton. "I can’t seem to get through to him anyway."
"I’ll ask him when I get back. Deep down, he really cares about you! Think about it. He’s your own son, and despite how you treat him, he has always put up with it, hasn’t he? You’ve never treated him as his own person! Just as a substitute for someone else."
Hearing Anne Sutton’s words, Anna Linden glanced at her. "Forget it. I’m going to get changed."
Anna Linden walked out the door. After a surgery that had lasted several hours, she was completely exhausted.
Anne Sutton watched her leave, her unhappy expression leaving Anne feeling a bit helpless.
Every time this topic came up, she would get upset.
But...
Anne truly felt that Nathan Fawcett was quite pitiful!
’What did he do wrong?’
’Clearly, all of it was the fault of their parents’ generation!’
...
The training session lasted a week.
Once she was done, Anne Sutton returned home.
She found Nathan Fawcett and Ian were both there.
He was sitting to the side, teaching Ian how to read.
He was quite patient with his son.
Seeing Anne return, Nathan Fawcett said, "You’re back?"
He quickly walked over and took her things.
Anne said, "I’m dead tired."
Caleb Summers, sitting in the armchair off to the side, saw Anne and said, "Welcome back."
Anne said, "Oh, you’re here!"
Although Caleb Summers lived right next door, he didn’t come over every day. That was especially true after Nathan had lectured him last time; he had been visiting even less frequently since then.
Caleb Summers said, "I was bored at home by myself, so I came over. I heard you were away on business. Is everything all taken care of?"
"I was just away for a few days of training."
Anne glanced at Nathan. "You didn’t go back to keep your mom company?"
Because she had been busy these past few days, Nathan hadn’t told Anne about the argument he’d had with his mother.
He said, "No."
Anne glanced at him and said, "I’m going upstairs to change. Can you bring my suitcase up for me?"
Nathan nodded, picked up Anne’s suitcase, and followed her upstairs.
Once they were upstairs, Anne took off her jacket. She looked at Nathan and said, "By the way, I saw your mother a couple of days ago during my training. She said you two had an argument, and she seemed pretty upset."
Nathan said, "It was nothing. I wanted her to have a meal with your mother. I mentioned it to her, but she didn’t agree."
"So what if she didn’t agree?" Anne said. "You argued with your mother over this? Now she’s going to hate me again!"
"Did she give you trouble?"
"No, not really," Anne said. "She’s been okay with me lately. It’s just... I can see things aren’t easy for her either. I really don’t understand you two."
Nathan said, "I don’t know what to say. She’s been saying she’s very busy lately, so I came back here to live. It’s happier living here."
Even though it was the house Anne had bought, living here always felt much more relaxed.
Besides, Caleb Summers lived right next door.
Hearing Nathan’s words, Anne said, "How can you be like this, abandoning your own home? She said she called you, but you wouldn’t even pick up. Aren’t you worried that’ll make her angry?"
"Whatever," Nathan said. "If she really wants to be angry, there’s nothing I can do."
Anne looked at the man. "What about the company? What will you do if she gets angry and kicks you out?"
"It doesn’t matter," Nathan said. "If that day really comes, I’ll just come rely on you. You can support me then! I can live without everything from the Linden Family, but I don’t want Ian to be without his mother."
Anne looked at him, surprised to think that he had fallen out with his mother like this, all because of her.
Anne walked up to Nathan, wrapped her arms around his neck, and looked at him. "Nathan, I missed you!"
Hearing her words, Nathan lowered his head and gave her a tentative kiss on the lips. When she didn’t refuse, he deepened the kiss, his hands wrapping around her waist.
He had been restraining himself so well, but with just a single sentence, Anne shattered his defenses.
He also...
...missed her so much!
As they kissed, they soon tumbled onto the bed. Anne, catching her breath from his frenzied kisses, looked at the man and said, "Ian and Caleb Summers are still in the house!"
"Who cares about them?"
"You’re certainly carefree," Anne said. "I’m hungry. Let’s go to my mom’s place for dinner! I’m craving her cooking."
She hadn’t eaten well at all these past few days while she was away.
After all, even though meals were included with the training, the food wasn’t very good.
Nothing could compare to her own mother’s cooking!
Nathan looked at her. "Let’s go later."
"You’re willing to let me starve?" She looked at the man, a little exasperated. From the way he was acting, it seemed he couldn’t wait to have her right then and there.
But right now, Anne was too embarrassed.
Especially with Caleb Summers and Ian in the house.
Hearing her words, Nathan relented, somewhat helplessly. "All right, then. We’ll eat first."
"Then let me up first," Anne said. "You’re pinning me down. I’m going to change and wash my face."
Hearing this, Nathan released her.
Anne went to the bathroom and looked at herself in the mirror. She had been busy as hell these past few days and hadn’t taken care of herself at all. Every day, she just washed her face, even skipping her skincare routine.
’He could actually bring himself to kiss me when I look like this?’
Nathan walked over and saw her staring blankly into the mirror. "What’s wrong?" he asked.
Anne looked at Nathan and asked, "Do you think I look good right now?"
Nathan nodded. "Of course you do."
Anne said, "I’m not wearing any makeup, I’m a little tired, and I look a bit haggard, yet you still think I look good? You really know what to say!"
"I’m telling the truth." Nathan came over, hugged her from behind, and rested his chin on her shoulder. "Are you going to wash your face or not? If not, that’s fine. Let’s just go back to bed. I think you look great just like this."
"No way," Anne said. "I have to wash my face. What if I run into a handsome guy when we go out? I have to make a good impression."
Hearing her words, Nathan’s voice deepened. "You’re already thinking that far ahead."
How dare she talk about handsome guys right in front of him.
Anne looked at the man. "I can’t?"
"You can’t," Nathan said. "I’d like to see who dares to look at you."
Hearing his words, Anne’s lips curved into a smile.
She took a shower, applied some toner, and put on some lipstick for good measure.
But even so, she still looked quite beautiful.
...
Anne followed Nathan downstairs. Ian had already packed up his things. "Mommy."
Anne said, "We’re going to Grandma’s for dinner."
Caleb Summers said, "Ethan, I want to go too."
He was speaking to Nathan.
He wouldn’t dare go unless Nathan agreed.
Nathan glanced at him. "Aren’t you supposed to be working?"
Caleb Summers said, "I already finished everything."
