Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

Chapter 301: Nathan Fawcett Wants to Set Stella Shields Up

  • Next Chapter

Stella Shields hadn’t been in the hospital for long. When Anne Sutton arrived home that afternoon, she saw Stella was already back.

Nathan Fawcett hadn’t gone to see her after he woke up.

There was no point in her staying at the hospital.

It wasn’t like there was anything seriously wrong with her in the first place.

So she figured she might as well recover at home.

That way, she could avoid the constant stream of fans and reporters trying to bother her at the hospital.

Justin Shields had brought her back and was staying at the Linden Family’s home to take care of her.

That afternoon, when Anne Sutton came in, she saw Stella Shields sitting on the sofa while Justin Shields was in the kitchen, cooking for her.

Stella said, "I can’t eat much. You don’t have to make so much for me."

"You’re sick right now. Your health is the priority. We can worry about dieting after you’ve recovered," Justin Shields said. "I’ll have a word with your assistant later."

Stella Shields protested, "No! I won’t look good if I gain weight."

Nathan Fawcett didn’t like her as it was. If she gained weight, she’d be even more repulsive to him.

Anne Sutton glanced at Stella’s impossibly thin waist. ’Celebrities these days are all trying to be thinner than the next,’ she thought.

Anne Sutton asked, "Is it just you two here?"

Justin Shields glanced at Anne Sutton. "I think so."

"I’m going to go change, then," Anne Sutton said.

She went upstairs and saw Ian in the middle of a lesson.

She entered her room, and just as she was taking off her coat, she saw Nathan Fawcett lying on the bed.

Seeing him there, Anne Sutton was a little surprised. "You didn’t go out?"

Nathan Fawcett leaned against the pillows and looked at her. "I didn’t sleep at all last night and have a bit of a headache, so I’ve just been sleeping. You’re back already?"

"Stella Shields and Justin Shields are here. They’re downstairs. Don’t tell me you didn’t know."

Nathan Fawcett raised an eyebrow. "So they’re here."

"I thought you’d be at the hospital visiting Stella Shields," Anne Sutton said.

"Her brother’s there, so I’m not going to bother with her," Nathan Fawcett said, looking at Anne. "I owe her a few favors from way back. Last night... I didn’t want to get involved, but I felt like I had to. If something had happened to her, it would have been hard for me to answer for it. Don’t read too much into it!"

Hearing this, Anne Sutton said, "You already explained that to me this morning."

She walked over to the wardrobe, pulled out some loungewear, and started to change. Nathan Fawcett came up and wrapped his arms around her from behind, his hands starting to roam.

Anne Sutton’s voice was low. "What do you think you’re doing? Have you already forgotten what we talked about?"

Nathan Fawcett, standing beside her, stopped his hands but kept his arms around her. "I was really worried you’d be angry. I kept thinking about calling you last night to explain, but I never got the chance. Besides, it was the middle of the night, and I didn’t want to wake you."

Anne Sutton arched an eyebrow. "And didn’t I tell you I wasn’t angry?"

"Yeah," Nathan Fawcett nodded. "That’s the problem. The fact that you’re not angry at all... why does that feel so weird to me? It’s like I’m not important to you!"

"...Are you nuts?" Anne Sutton couldn’t help but laugh.

"But it’s true!" Nathan Fawcett said. "Think about it, back when Charles Prescott was with other women, you’d get so angry! How come you’re so magnanimous when it comes to me?"

"Fine, I’m angry now! Happy?" Anne Sutton said.

She put on a stern expression.

Nathan Fawcett looked at her and arched an eyebrow. "You’re just pretending."

"I just can’t please you, can I?" Anne Sutton had finished changing. "Have you eaten today?"

"No, I have no appetite at all," said Nathan Fawcett. "I don’t know why, but I’m really craving those noodles in clear broth you made for me once. I can’t stop thinking about that flavor."

He hadn’t had any of Anne Sutton’s cooking lately, and he was missing it terribly.

Anne Sutton laughed. "And I wonder who it was that said he wouldn’t let me cook for him anymore!"

"But who asked you to be such a good cook?" Nathan Fawcett said. "You’ve completely captured my stomach. What am I supposed to do?"

Anne Sutton arched an eyebrow and said to Nathan Fawcett, "Let’s go downstairs and eat. You’re in for a treat today."

"Why? Are you going to cook for me?" Nathan Fawcett’s face lit up with anticipation.

Anne Sutton just smiled without saying a word.

She walked out the door, called for Ian, and then headed downstairs.

When he saw the table laden with dishes made by Justin Shields, Nathan Fawcett frowned. ’Well, I’ll be damned,’ he thought. ’So I’m supposed to eat Justin Shields’ cooking today!’

His appetite vanished in an instant.

Justin Shields was a little surprised to see Nathan Fawcett. "When did you get back?"

"He’s been in his room sleeping this whole time," Anne Sutton answered for him.

Stella Shields looked at Nathan Fawcett with concern. "Ethan, this is all my fault for keeping you up last night. How are you feeling? You look a little pale."

Hearing this, Nathan Fawcett said, "Why did you leave the hospital? Why not stay for another couple of days?"

’If she were still in the hospital,’ he thought, ’Justin would be there looking after her, and she wouldn’t be here at home.’

But to his surprise, Stella Shields just beamed and said, "I just think it’s much nicer at home! Ethan, are you worried about me? Thank you! Knowing you care makes me feel so much better."

Anne Sutton, sitting to the side, glanced at Nathan Fawcett and remarked, "Well, what do you know. Ethan Linden’s presence is more effective than any doctor. Looks like next time you’re feeling unwell, Stella, you should just have him visit you. It’s more reliable than seeing a doctor."

"Really? That would be wonderful!" Stella Shields said.

Nathan Fawcett shot a glare at Anne Sutton. "I’m very busy."

Then he turned to Stella Shields and said, "You’re not a child anymore. You’re a grown woman; you need to know how to take care of yourself. Getting yourself sick doesn’t do anyone any good. It just makes the rest of us have to worry about you."

Hearing him lecture her, Stella Shields frowned and whined, "Ethan, I’m not well, and you’re still scolding me. You’re making me so sad I could die."

She was very good at this sort of coquettish pouting.

Anne Sutton watched this scene from the side, an eyebrow raised.

’What a pity. She didn’t know that Nathan Fawcett couldn’t be touched by women.’

’Otherwise, these little tricks of hers might have actually worked.’

Nathan Fawcett looked at Stella Shields and said, "Since you’re at home now, how about I set you up with someone?"

Her heart sank at his offer to set her up. "Why are you bringing this up all of a sudden?"

"I always figured you were busy with your career and weren’t in any rush," Nathan Fawcett said. "But now it seems you have plenty of energy to spare. I can introduce you to someone. A man of high caliber, more than a match for you. And since your brother is here, if you find someone suitable, I’m sure he’d be supportive. Right, Mr. Shields?"

"..." Justin Shields hadn’t expected Nathan Fawcett to suddenly try to set Stella Shields up with someone.

Stella Shields’s face soured. "I don’t want to!"

The only person she wanted to marry was Nathan Fawcett!

She wouldn’t marry anyone else!

’Besides, if I were going to be set up, he wouldn’t be the one to do it!’

Anna Linden had brought it up with her before, but she had never even considered it.

Nathan Fawcett looked at Stella Shields and said, "You’re not getting any younger. While your career in entertainment is important, I think getting married is important too. Otherwise, your family will never stop worrying."

’The main thing is,’ he thought, ’if people see that she isn’t married, they’ll start making up stories about the two of us behind my back. I hate that!’
