Finally, the marriage ceremony reached its most awaited moment.
The sacred fire continued to burn brightly before Devara, its golden flames rising toward the heavens as the priest completed the final mantras of the ceremony.
Around the yaga, both families had gathered, while the divine guests and the citizens of Trivenivrata watched in complete anticipation.
The priest looked toward Devara and gave him the signal.
"It is time."
Devara slowly reached for the two mangalya sutras that had been prepared for his brides.
For a moment, he held them in his hands and looked at them, understanding the weight of what he was about to do. Then he turned toward Lakshmi.
"Mother."
Lakshmi immediately understood.
Devara extended the mangalya sutras toward her.
"Will you give them to me?"
Lakshmi’s eyes immediately became moist again.
She carefully took the sacred ornaments from her son.
Her fingers trembled slightly, not from uncertainty, but from the overwhelming emotion of the moment.
She had already struggled throughout the ceremony to contain her tears, and now the final moment had arrived.
She looked at Devara with a mother’s immense pride.
"Take them, my son."
She placed the two mangalya sutras into his hands.
Devara received them respectfully.
The priest began chanting the final sacred mantras, and the musicians slowly raised their instruments in anticipation.
Yami sat beside Devara, her water-blue saree shimmering beneath the ceremonial lights.
Her expression was calm, but her eyes revealed the nervous happiness she was trying to contain.
Beside Devara on the other side sat Princess Indhumati, dressed in her radiant yellow saree, her hands resting together as she waited for the moment she had dreamed about.
Devara first turned toward Yami.
The arena became completely silent.
He gently lifted the first mangalya sutra and brought it toward her neck.
Yami lowered her head slightly, her eyes closing as the sacred thread was placed around her neck.
Devara tied it carefully.
The moment the knot was secured, the musicians erupted into celebration.
Drums thundered throughout the arena.
Conches sounded.
Flowers were thrown into the air.
The citizens of Trivenivrata erupted into cheers.
"Blessings to Goddess Yamuna!"
"Blessings to King Devara!"
Devara then turned toward Indhumati.
She looked at him with a smile that carried both happiness and nervousness.
He lifted the second mangalya sutra and gently placed it around her neck as the priest continued the sacred chants.
Then Devara tied the final knot.
The arena erupted once again.
Thousands of voices rose together, filling the entire royal arena with celebration.
Flowers rained down from above, landing upon Devara, Yami and Indhumati as the musicians played with renewed energy.
Yami touched the mangalya sutra around her neck, her eyes shining with emotion.
Indhumati did the same, her smile becoming wider as she looked toward Devara.
The ceremony was complete.
They were married.
Around them, their families began offering their blessings.
Surya Dev and his family blessed Yami and Devara, while Padmanabha Varman and Devayani blessed Indhumati and Devara.
Ganga and Bhudevi looked upon their son with immense pride, while Vishnu and Lakshmi stood together, their hearts filled with a happiness they had never experienced before.
Lakshmi’s eyes once again filled with tears.
But this time she did not bother hiding them.
She simply smiled.
Vishnu gently placed a hand upon her shoulder as they watched their son sitting between his two brides.
The other gods offered their blessings as well, while the citizens raised their voices in celebration.
"May their lives be filled with happiness!"
"May their kingdom prosper!"
"May their union bring peace and prosperity!"
The blessings continued from every corner of the arena.
Devara looked first toward Yami, then toward Indhumati.
Both women looked back at him.
For a moment, the three simply smiled at one another while flower petals continued to fall around them.
The king of Trivenivrata had married Goddess Yamuna and Princess Indhumati.
And before gods, kings, family and thousands of his own people, Devara’s wedding had finally been completed.
As the final blessings were being offered, something extraordinary began to happen above the royal arena.
The sky itself seemed to change.
A gentle breeze swept across the gathering, carrying with it the fragrance of flowers that had not grown anywhere in Trivenivrata.
The citizens slowly lifted their faces toward the heavens, and before anyone could understand what was happening, the first flower descended from the sky, then another and another.
Within moments, an enormous shower of celestial flowers began raining down over the entire ceremonial arena.
Blossoms of every color and kind drifted gently through the air, glowing faintly as they descended.
Some seemed to carry the fragrance of heavenly gardens, while others shimmered beneath the sunlight as though tiny fragments of the heavens had broken loose and were falling upon the mortal world.
The citizens fell silent.
The musicians stopped playing.
Even the priests momentarily paused their chanting.
Everyone simply stared.
The flowers landed upon Devara, Yami and Indhumati, covering their shoulders and the ground around them.
Devara looked upward in wonder, while Yami and Indhumati exchanged astonished glances before looking toward the heavens themselves.
Then the divine voices began to echo faintly through the sky.
Blessings from the celestials.
Blessings from gods who had chosen not to descend into Bhulok.
Blessings for the newly married King Devara, Goddess Yami and Princess Indhumati.
Though those divine beings remained beyond the sight of ordinary mortals, their blessings were unmistakable.
"May your union bring prosperity."
"May your household be filled with happiness."
"May your kingdom flourish."
"May your paths remain protected."
The citizens listened in stunned silence.
Many had never witnessed anything remotely like this.
They had come expecting a grand royal wedding, perhaps hoping to catch a glimpse of a goddess or two.
Instead, they were now standing beneath a shower of celestial flowers while divine blessings descended from the heavens themselves.
Some people folded their hands instinctively.
Others bowed their heads.
A few elderly citizens simply stared upward with tears in their eyes, unable to comprehend the blessing they had been fortunate enough to witness.
Even the sages gathered among the guests were momentarily speechless.
Then one of the elderly sages whispered something under his breath.
Another sage beside him turned toward the ceremony, his eyes widening as a verse formed within his mind.
"Where the river-born goddess meets the king of the earth,"
He murmured, almost unconsciously,
"and where two brides sit beside one heart, the heavens themselves have opened their gardens."
The sage beside him listened, then softly added another line.
"Flowers descend without hands to scatter them, the gods speak without appearing, and the earth bears witness to a union worthy of song."
Soon several sages were quietly murmuring verses of their own, inspired by the extraordinary sight unfolding before them.
None had prepared the poetry beforehand.
The words simply came to them as they watched the celestial flowers descend.
One young sage stared at Devara, Yami and Indhumati surrounded by flowers and whispered,
"Today, the heavens did not merely bless a marriage. They turned it into a memory."
The others nodded.
Below the shower of celestial blossoms, Devara looked toward his two brides.
Yami smiled at him.
Indhumati smiled as well.
Behind them stood their families, their parents and the gods who had descended to witness their union.
Above them, the heavens continued to rain flowers.
And for one extraordinary moment, the royal arena of Trivenivrata seemed to stand between two worlds, with the mortal kingdom beneath their feet and the celestial realms opening their doors above them.
After the final post-wedding rituals were completed, the priest offered one last blessing into the sacred fire before allowing the ceremony to formally conclude.
The flames continued to dance gently within the yaga, surrounded by flowers and the remains of the offerings that had been placed into it throughout the rituals.
The musicians slowly resumed their performance, and the atmosphere that had been filled with solemn silence moments earlier once again erupted into celebration.
Devara rose from his place and stood at the center of the decorated stage.
On one side stood Goddess Yami, her water-blue saree still shimmering beneath the lights, the mangalya sutra resting around her neck.
On his other side stood Princess Indhumati, radiant in her yellow saree, her own mangalya sutra gleaming against the fabric.
Both women stood proudly beside their husband, their expressions carrying the happiness of women who had just begun a new Chapter of their lives.
Devara looked across the enormous arena.
Thousands of citizens were still gathered before him. Beyond them stood kings, queens, princes, princesses, sages and countless other guests who had travelled from distant lands to witness his wedding.
His family stood together near the ceremonial area, while the divine guests watched with warm expressions.
For a few moments, Devara simply looked at them.
Then he folded his hands respectfully.
"My family, my friends, honoured guests and the people of Trivenivrata,"
He began, his voice carrying across the arena,
"today has become one of the most important days of my life. I could have celebrated this occasion within the walls of my palace, surrounded only by those closest to me, but I wanted all of you to be here."
The crowd listened quietly.
"I wanted the people of Trivenivrata to witness this day because this kingdom is not merely a place ruled by me. It is a kingdom we have built together."
"Every farmer who works the fields, every craftsman who creates, every merchant who trades, every soldier who protects our borders and every family that has made this land their home has contributed to what Trivenivrata has become."
His gaze moved across the citizens.
"So when I began this new Chapter of my life, I wanted you to stand with me."
The citizens responded with cheers.
Devara smiled before continuing.
"I am deeply grateful to everyone who travelled here today, whether from another kingdom, another family or another realm. To those who came simply to offer their blessings, your presence itself is a gift to us."
He then turned slightly toward Yami and Indhumati.
"These two women have now become my wives, and I ask all of you to bless them as you have blessed me. May they always find happiness within this family, and may our household remain worthy of the love and trust you have placed in us."
Yami looked at Devara with a warm smile.
Indhumati’s eyes softened as she listened.
Devara finally looked toward the divine guests.
"And to the gods and sages who have blessed this union, whether you stand before us today or have offered your blessings from the heavens, I offer my deepest gratitude."
He folded his hands more firmly.
"Thank you all for coming."
For a brief moment, silence filled the arena.
Then the citizens erupted into thunderous applause and cheers.
Flowers were once again thrown toward the stage, while the musicians began playing a triumphant wedding melody. Yami and Indhumati stood beside Devara as the three of them looked out over the celebration.
The wedding was complete.
And now, before the people who had come to witness it, Devara stood not simply as their king, but as a newly married husband beginning a new Chapter of his life with the two women who had chosen to walk beside him.
