Chapter 205: Chapter 205 Where is your gift?

Daisy giggled and gently pointed toward the teddy, making a small gesture as if telling him that it was cute. Her fingers moved delicately, tracing the shape of the tiny bow.

James looked at her and smiled. "You like it?"

Daisy immediately nodded, her eyes bright.

"Well, then perhaps I’ll let you keep it."

Daisy’s eyes widened and she quickly shook her head. Her hands waved in front of her, denying the offer.

James laughed again, his chest shaking with mirth. "I’m only teasing you."

He looked at the teddy once more. His fingers gently brushed over the teddy’s little head and a nostalgic look appeared in his eyes.

"You know..." His voice became quieter.

Daisy’s eyes immediately became curious. She looked at him expectantly, her head tilted slightly.

James smiled faintly. "It was many, many years ago."

He leaned back comfortably in his chair, still holding the teddy. His gaze drifted to a distant point as if he was looking at something far beyond the walls of the room.

"I gave her one when I proposed to her."

Daisy’s eyes lit up. She immediately leaned closer, clearly wanting to hear the story. Her hands rested on the arm of his chair and her expression was eager.

James noticed her expression and chuckled. "Oh? Now you’re interested?"

Daisy nodded enthusiastically, her eyes sparkling.

"Hahaha. I knew it."

He looked down at the teddy with a fond smile. His thumb traced the soft fur and his eyes became misty.

"She laughed at me too, you know. She told me that a grown man shouldn’t propose with a teddy bear."

Daisy covered her mouth, laughing silently. Her shoulders shook and her eyes crinkled.

"But she kept it." His smile became softer. "She kept that silly little teddy for years. It sat on her dressing table until the day she passed away."

For a moment, James seemed lost in the memory. His eyes were distant and his fingers continued to stroke the teddy’s head.

Then he noticed the small card tucked beneath the teddy bear. "Oh?"

He pulled it out and read the name written on it. His expression immediately changed into amusement.

"Rafael!"

He laughed loudly, the sound echoing through the room. "That boy!"

Daisy smiled, watching him.

James shook his head fondly while looking at the teddy again. "That boy is something else. He probably thought an old man like me needed some company."

He placed the teddy carefully on the table beside him, making sure it sat upright. Then he looked at Daisy.

"Help me with the next one."

Daisy nodded and reached for another gift.

James placed the teddy bear carefully beside him and looked around the table, suddenly narrowing his eyes at Daisy.

"Wait a minute."

Daisy blinked, her expression innocent.

"Where is your gift?"

Daisy’s lips immediately curved into a mischievous smile. Her eyes sparkled with playfulness and she tilted her head slightly.

James stared at her. "Don’t tell me you forgot about your favourite person’s birthday."

Daisy quickly shook her head, laughing silently. Her shoulders shook with mirth and her eyes crinkled at the corners.

She then lifted her hands and made a playful gesture, pointing around the room before pointing at him.

James frowned in confusion. "What?"

Daisy repeated the gesture, this time more dramatically. She pointed at the room, then at him, then made a small searching motion with her hands.

Her meaning was obvious. Find it yourself.

James’s mouth dropped open. "Me? I have to find my own gift?"

Daisy nodded, her smile widening.

He immediately pouted like an offended child. His lower lip jutted out and his brows drew together in exaggerated displeasure. "That’s very unfair."

Daisy covered her mouth as her shoulders shook with laughter. Her eyes were bright with amusement.

"I am the birthday boy!" He pointed at himself indignantly, his finger jabbing toward his chest. "I should be receiving gifts. I shouldn’t have to go treasure hunting for them."

Daisy only smiled and shook her head. Her expression was firm but playful.

James narrowed his eyes at her. "Hmm... So you’re going to make an old man search the entire house?"

Daisy nodded again, her smile never fading.

"You really have become mischievous."

She laughed silently, her whole body shaking with suppressed giggles.

James eventually gave up and leaned back in his chair. His shoulders slumped in mock defeat. "Fine. I’ll find it myself."

He didn’t mention Cedric. He didn’t bring up the divorce again.

He continued opening the remaining gifts, occasionally making dramatic comments about each one and teasing Daisy whenever she laughed at him. His exaggerated reactions made her laugh.

A few more beautifully wrapped boxes were opened before one particular gift caught his attention.

James picked it up. There was no large decorative ribbon, only simple wrapping and a small card attached to it. The paper was elegant but understated, dark grey with a thin silver border.

He turned it over in his hands. "This one..."

His eyebrows lifted. "Alessio."

Daisy’s eyes immediately moved toward the box. Her expression flickered with curiosity.

James smiled curiously. "Now I’m interested."

He carefully examined it, turning it over once more. "What did that boy give me?"

He looked toward Daisy. "Do you know?"

Daisy shook her head, but there was something in her eyes that suggested she might have an idea.

James narrowed his eyes suspiciously. "Hmm. You’re hiding something from me too?"

Daisy immediately shook her head again, smiling innocently. Her eyes were wide and clear.

James chuckled. "Alright, alright. Let’s see."

He began opening the wrapping paper slowly, his curiosity growing with every layer. The few remaining staff members in the room also glanced toward him, their attention drawn by his obvious interest.

James carefully lifted the lid.

His eyes widened slightly. "Oh..."

He looked at the gift for a moment, genuinely surprised. Inside the box was a beautifully crafted wooden box, polished to a deep shine. On the lid was an engraved design of a tree with deep roots and inside the box were several compartments filled with different types of tea leaves, each in a small glass jar. There was also a small handwritten note tucked into the corner.

James picked up the note and read it silently. His expression softened as he read the words.

For the man who has been like a grandfather to so many. May your days be filled with warmth and peace. — Alessio

He looked at the gift for a long moment. Then a pleased smile slowly appeared on his face.

"Alessio really knows how to choose a birthday gift."

Daisy watched him, her heart warming at the sight of his smile.
