Chapter 202: Chapter 202 Daisy and Cedric will get divorced tomorrow
Suddenly, a waiter approached her. "Ma’am, would you like some refreshments?"
Daisy looked at him. For a second, she just blinked.
Then her stomach seemed to remind her of something very important.
Food.
Her eyes lit up. The exhaustion on her face was replaced by a spark of eagerness. She nodded enthusiastically.
The waiter smiled and offered her a small plate of refreshments. The plate was arranged beautifully with small pastries, finger sandwiches and fresh fruit.
Daisy accepted it with both hands. She looked down at the food, then back at the waiter and gave him a grateful smile. Her eyes curved into crescents and she bowed her head slightly in thanks.
The waiter nodded and walked away.
Daisy happily turned back toward Grandpa James. She had barely taken her first bite when, from across the room, Alessio’s gaze quietly settled on her.
The corner of his lips lifted almost imperceptibly. At least she was finally eating.
"Ohhhhh..."
Rafael dragged the word out teasingly as he glanced at his brother. His voice was low but the amusement in it was clear.
Alessio ignored him completely.
Rafael’s grin only widened. He had figured it out. His big brother had been quietly making sure Daisy actually ate.
So this is what he’s doing now?
The terrifying Alessio Ricci, who could make grown men nervous with a single look, was apparently secretly arranging refreshments for the woman he liked. Rafael almost laughed. The contrast was too ridiculous.
"Brooo," he murmured, leaning closer, "you could have just asked her if she was hungry."
Alessio finally gave him a cold look. His green eyes narrowed and his jaw tightened.
"Do you want to say something?"
Rafael immediately straightened. His grin vanished, replaced by a look of exaggerated innocence.
"Nope."
"Then be quiet."
Rafael covered his mouth but his shoulders still shook with suppressed laughter. His eyes sparkled with amusement. He just wants to feed his woman. He wisely kept that thought to himself.
Eventually, the birthday celebration came to an end.
One by one, the guests said their goodbyes and left the house until only the family and a few close people remained. The staff began clearing the plates and glasses and the music was turned off. The house grew quieter with each passing minute.
Jessica stayed behind. So did Alessio and Rafael.
The atmosphere inside the house, however, had changed completely. It became tense.
Jenna noticed it almost immediately. She had spent the entire evening moving between guests and maintaining the perfect hostess smile. But now that the house had become quieter, she could finally see the expressions everyone had been hiding.
Grandpa James was sitting silently. His face was unusually serious. There was no trace of the cheerful old man who had been laughing over his birthday cake earlier. His face looked pale, his jaw tight and his eyes were fixed on Cedric with an anger Jenna had rarely seen directed at him.
Jenna’s smile slowly disappeared. She glanced at Cedric.
He wasn’t behaving normally either. He sat stiffly, his expression tense, occasionally looking toward Daisy before quickly looking away. His hands were clasped in his lap and his shoulders were rigid.
Daisy herself was unusually quiet. She stood near Grandpa James, her fingers lightly intertwined as she watched everyone with an uncertain expression. Her face was pale and there was a tiredness in her eyes.
Jenna’s heart began beating faster. Something was wrong. Very wrong.
She looked around the room. Rafael was standing beside Alessio. Who are they, and what are they doing here? she thought thought with a frown.
Then Jenna’s eyes landed on Jessica. Jessica was sitting nearby with a satisfied little smile that made Jenna’s stomach sink. There was something triumphant in her expression, something that made Jenna deeply uneasy.
Jenna narrowed her eyes. "Jessica..."
Jessica looked toward her. "Yes?"
"What happened?"
Jessica’s smile didn’t disappear. "Nothing."
Jenna stared at her suspiciously. "Then why does everyone look like someone has died?"
Jessica gave a small shrug. "I wouldn’t know."
But the strange amusement in her eyes made Jenna even more uneasy.
She slowly looked back toward Grandpa James. The old man’s hands were resting on the arms of his chair, his fingers tense. His gaze never left Cedric. His eyes were filled with something that looked like anger and deep disappointment.
Jenna swallowed. "Cedric..."
Cedric looked toward her. "Mom."
"What happened?"
Cedric didn’t answer. He looked away, his jaw tightening.
"Do you know about Jessica and Cedric’s affair?"
Grandpa James’s question came so suddenly that Jenna froze.
For a moment, she just stared at him. Her mind went completely blank. Her lips parted but no words came out. Her eyes slowly moved toward Jessica, then toward Cedric.
He knows?
Had the old man somehow found out about their affair?
Jenna’s heart began beating faster. She could feel it pounding against her ribs, loud and insistent. How the heck does the old man know? she thought, panicked.
"Dad, I..."
She didn’t know how to answer. Her voice faltered. She looked away, unable to meet his gaze.
Grandpa James watched her hesitation. His expression became even colder.
"I asked you a simple question, Jenna."
Jenna swallowed. Her throat felt dry and her hands trembled slightly at her sides.
Jessica’s earlier smile had disappeared completely. Her face had gone pale and her fingers tightened around the fabric of her dress. She looked toward Cedric, searching for some sign of support but he wasn’t looking at her.
Cedric remained silent, his face tense. His jaw was tight, and his hands were clenched into fists at his sides.
The room suddenly felt suffocating. No one dared to speak.
Grandpa James looked at the three of them for several seconds before finally turning his gaze toward Daisy.
His expression softened slightly when he saw her. She was standing there quietly, her eyes already filled with emotion. Her hands were clasped in front of her and her shoulders were tense.
James sighed deeply.
"Daisy and Cedric will get divorced tomorrow. Immediately."
Daisy’s eyes widened. Her breath caught in her throat, and she stared at him in shock.
Cedric immediately looked at him. "Grandpa—"
James raised his hand. "No."
His voice was firm, leaving no room for argument.
"I have made my decision."
He looked directly at Cedric, his eyes sharp and cold. "You wanted Jessica. You have been spending your time with her and apparently you have already made your choice."
