Chapter 172: Chapter 172 I don’t want to stay in a marriage where I am not loved
Daisy noticed the nurse’s flushed cheeks and looked between the two of them. Then she looked at Alessio. He wasn’t even paying attention to the nurse. His gaze was fixed on Daisy.
The nurse followed his gaze and immediately understood. She quietly finished cleaning the scrape, applied the ointment, and wrapped a small bandage around his hand.
"There. It should heal in a few days. Try not to put too much pressure on it."
Alessio nodded.
The nurse quickly gathered the supplies and walked away.
Daisy looked at Alessio’s bandaged hand and nodded with satisfaction.
Much better.
Alessio glanced at the bandage. Then at her. "Happy now?"
Daisy nodded.
He gave a faint smile. "Good."
He looked down at her small hand, which was still loosely holding his uninjured one. This time, he didn’t point it out. He simply let her keep holding it.
"Umm..." Alessio hesitated.
For perhaps the first time, he didn’t look completely confident.
He glanced at Daisy, then away, before looking back at her.
"I suggested you divorce Cedric..."
His voice was quieter than usual.
Daisy blinked.
She remembered.
Of course she remembered.
Her expression immediately changed, and Alessio could practically see the words forming in her eyes. She looked like she had a whole list of things she wanted to say.
He almost smiled.
"You can tell me slowly," he said, lifting his hands slightly as though surrendering before she even started. "I’ll try to understand."
Daisy nodded.
She took out her phone and began typing. She had gotten her phone in the morning; the maid had given it to her along with clothes.
Alessio waited patiently.
She finished and turned the screen toward him.
You told me you would help me.
He read it and nodded.
"I remember."
She typed again.
But you disappeared for two days.
Alessio’s eyebrows lifted slightly.
"I didn’t disappear."
Daisy immediately gave him a look.
He corrected himself.
"Okay... maybe I disappeared a little."
She stared at him.
Alessio sighed.
"Alright. I disappeared."
Daisy typed again.
And then I found you injured.
His expression softened.
"I know."
She looked at his bandaged hand and then back at him.
You should have told me.
Alessio was quiet for a moment. "I didn’t want you to worry."
Daisy’s eyes widened.
She quickly typed.
I would worry more if you hid it.
He stared at the message. He felt warm in his heart.
He looked down at his bandaged hand.
"You’re right."
Daisy blinked, clearly surprised that he had agreed so easily.
Alessio gave a small smile.
"Don’t look so surprised. I can admit when I’m wrong."
Daisy’s lips curved slightly.
Then her expression became serious again.
She typed another message.
And about the divorce...
Alessio’s smile disappeared.
He looked at her carefully.
Daisy hesitated before showing him the screen.
I still want to divorce Cedric.
His heartbeat immediately changed. He had expected that answer.
Still, seeing it written in front of him made something inside him feel strangely lighter.
He tried not to show it.
"Are you sure?"
Daisy nodded.
She typed again.
He loves Jessica. And I don’t want to stay in a marriage where I am not loved.
Alessio looked at her for a long moment.
Then he nodded slowly.
"Then I’ll help you."
Daisy looked up at him.
His expression was calm now.
"No matter what happens, I’ll help you handle it properly."
She smiled softly.
Alessio looked at that smile for a moment before reminding himself to stay composed. He had almost forgotten what they had been talking about.
Then Daisy’s expression changed.
She quickly picked up her phone and typed something.
Alessio noticed the change immediately.
But there’s a problem...
He leaned slightly closer, his expression becoming serious.
"What’s the problem?"
Daisy turned the phone toward him.
She had written:
Cedric didn’t agree to divorce.
Alessio’s eyebrows lifted.
"He didn’t?"
Daisy shook her head.
She quickly typed another message.
He said he will divorce me himself, but not right now.
Alessio read it carefully.
Then Daisy added:
He said Grandpa James is sick. If he finds out about our divorce now, it might affect his health badly.
Alessio’s expression became thoughtful.
"So that’s why he refused?"
Daisy nodded.
She typed again.
He said he would have divorced me already if Grandpa wasn’t sick.
Alessio stared at the screen for a moment.
"So he doesn’t want to stay married to you, but he also won’t let you leave until he thinks his grandfather is safe."
Daisy nodded slowly.
Alessio sighed.
"That’s... complicated."
Daisy looked at him helplessly.
He could see that she was frustrated. She had already made up her mind to leave Cedric but somehow the situation kept becoming more complicated every time she tried.
Alessio looked at her for a few seconds before speaking more gently.
"Don’t worry about it tonight."
Daisy blinked.
"We’ll figure out what to do."
She nodded and a small smile returned to her face.
Alessio looked at her and smiled faintly.
"Besides, you look exhausted. You should be resting instead of worrying about divorce at this hour."
Daisy immediately pointed toward his bandaged hand.
Then she gave him a pointed look.
Alessio stared at her.
"...You’re still worried about my hand?"
Daisy nodded.
He couldn’t help smiling.
"Alright. Fair enough," Alessio said with a small smile.
Without really thinking about it, he reached out and gently pinched her cheek.
Daisy froze.
Alessio froze too.
His fingers were still resting lightly against her soft cheek, and for a second, both of them simply stared at each other.
Daisy’s eyes widened in surprise.
Alessio looked equally caught off guard by his own action.
Neither of them seemed to know what to do.
Then Daisy’s lips twitched.
A small laugh escaped her.
Alessio stared at her for another second before he started laughing too.
"What?" he asked, still smiling.
Daisy shook her head, covering her cheek with her hand as if protecting it from him.
Alessio chuckled.
"I don’t know why I did that."
Daisy gave him an amused look.
He smiled at her.
"Maybe you looked too serious."
She immediately narrowed her eyes at him.
Alessio laughed again.
"Okay, okay. I won’t do it again."
Daisy shook her head, but she was still smiling.
For a few moments, they simply stood there together, laughing quietly in the empty hospital corridor.
Neither of them noticed how naturally they had started behaving around each other.
