Chapter 168 Flustered
Chapter 168: Chapter 168 Flustered
Meanwhile, Daisy walked farther down the hospital corridor, away from Cedric’s room. The moment she was sure no one was following her, she let out a tired sigh and lowered herself onto one of the chairs placed near the quiet outside section of the hospital.
Her head was pounding.
She hadn’t slept properly because she had been taking care of Cedric throughout the night, and even during the day, she had barely allowed herself to rest. She had been so focused on making sure he was comfortable that she hadn’t noticed how exhausted she had become until now.
Daisy pressed her fingers against her temples and closed her eyes for a moment.
The corridor was almost completely empty. Since it was late, most of the visitors had already gone, leaving only the occasional sound of footsteps from somewhere far away.
She took a slow breath.
Then a low voice suddenly came from beside her.
"Have some water."
Daisy’s eyes opened immediately.
She turned her head in surprise.
Alessio was standing a few steps away.
He was dressed casually, his expression calm as usual, and he was holding a bottle of water in his right hand.
Daisy stared at him for a moment before quickly standing up.
What are you doing here?
She gestured toward him, her eyebrows raised in confusion.
"Nothing," Alessio replied simply.
His answer was suspiciously casual.
Daisy’s eyes moved over him.
Something felt off.
He was deliberately keeping his left hand slightly behind him.
Her gaze immediately dropped toward it.
She frowned.
Then she pointed.
Your hand.
Alessio’s expression remained completely calm.
"It’s nothing."
Daisy stepped closer.
He tried to move his hand farther behind him.
She looked at him suspiciously.
"What?"
Daisy reached for his wrist.
Alessio instinctively tried to pull away.
"Daisy, really, it’s nothing."
She didn’t listen.
She gently pulled his left hand forward.
The moment she saw it, her eyes widened.
There were scrapes across his hand, with a few small cuts and dried blood around them.
Her expression immediately changed.
You’re injured?
Alessio looked at his hand as though he had only just noticed it.
"It’s just a scratch."
Daisy stared at him in disbelief.
She pointed at the injury again.
Just a scratch?
Alessio gave a small shrug.
"I’ve had worse."
That answer only made her frown.
She looked genuinely worried now.
Before she could gesture anything else, Alessio spoke again.
"Don’t worry about me. Rafael told me your h... I mean Cedric was admitted here."
He paused.
His expression remained controlled but something tightened briefly around his eyes.
"Is he okay?"
He had been about to say your husband but he couldn’t bring himself to say the words. Even thinking about Cedric being the reason Daisy was spending the night in a hospital made something bitter settle in his chest.
Daisy nodded.
He’s okay.
She quickly pointed toward his injured hand again.
But you need treatment.
Alessio shook his head.
"I’m fine."
Daisy frowned harder.
She pointed toward the hospital.
Doctor.
"No."
She stared at him.
He stared back.
"Daisy."
She crossed her arms.
Alessio sighed.
"Why are you always so stubborn?"
Daisy gave him a look that clearly said he had absolutely no right to say that.
A faint smile appeared on his face.
"Fine. Maybe we’re both stubborn."
She shook her head and reached for his injured hand again.
But before she could pull him toward the treatment area, Alessio gently guided her back toward the chair.
"Sit."
Daisy looked confused.
She pointed at herself.
Me?
"Yes."
She hesitated.
"You’ve been awake all night, haven’t you?" He said lightly, his eyes focused on the dark circles around her eyes. He could easily detect the fatigue and tiredness in those beautiful eyes.
Daisy looked away.
That was answer enough.
Alessio’s expression softened.
"Sit down."
Daisy finally sat.
He handed her the water bottle.
She took it but before she could open it, Alessio reached for it again.
"I’ll do it."
He twisted the cap with his right hand, then instinctively used his injured left hand to hold the bottle steady.
The moment he applied pressure, his expression tightened slightly.
Daisy immediately noticed.
She winced as though she could feel the pain herself.
She quickly reached toward his hand.
Don’t use that hand!
Alessio stopped.
He looked at her.
Then at his injured hand.
"It’s fine."
Daisy shook her head firmly.
He sighed.
"Alright."
Daisy stared at him in surprise when Alessio sat down beside her and lifted the bottle toward her lips.
"Drink," he said simply.
She blinked, clearly not expecting him to actually hold the bottle for her.
Still, after a moment of hesitation, she leaned forward and took a small sip.
Alessio didn’t seem to think there was anything unusual about it. His expression remained completely serious, his attention focused only on making sure she actually drank enough water.
Daisy took another sip.
Then another.
A tiny drop of water escaped the corner of her lips and slowly slipped down her lower lip.
She didn’t notice it.
Alessio did.
His eyes paused there for a second.
Without thinking, he lowered the bottle and lifted his hand toward her face.
Daisy’s eyes widened.
His thumb gently brushed across the corner of her lips, wiping away the drop of water.
The movement was so natural that he seemed to realize what he had done only afterward.
For a moment, neither of them moved.
Alessio’s thumb remained near her lips for one brief second before he slowly pulled his hand back.
His expression was still serious, almost as though nothing had happened.
"You’re messy," he murmured.
Daisy’s cheeks immediately warmed.
She touched her lips instinctively, staring at him with wide eyes.
Alessio looked away and cleared his throat.
"Drink."
Daisy blinked.
He lifted the bottle again.
She looked at him as if she couldn’t quite believe him.
Was he seriously acting as though wiping her lips with his thumb was completely normal?
Alessio, meanwhile, seemed entirely unaware of how intimate the small gesture had looked from her perspective. He simply held the bottle patiently, waiting for her to drink.
Daisy slowly leaned forward again.
Her heart was beating much faster than it should have.
Alessio’s eyes remained on her, his face calm and composed, while his thumb still carried the faint trace of the water he had wiped from her lips. He wanted to taste that trace, and his eyes darkened at his own impulsive thoughts.
But he had no idea how flustered he had just made her.
