Chapter 169: Chapter 169 This isn’t what it looks like!
Finally, after Daisy finished drinking, Alessio lowered the bottle and leaned back slightly. He looked away for a moment, almost as if he needed to gather his thoughts after being so close to her. Then his gaze returned to her face, and a small smile appeared.
"You look much better," Alessio said softly.
His eyes moved gently over her face, meeting both of her eyes as though he was checking for himself whether she really looked less tired.
Daisy smiled and nodded.
Alessio seemed satisfied.
"Since I’m already here, I should meet your husband as well," he added.
He stood up.
Daisy immediately noticed his injured hand and pointed toward it with a worried look.
Alessio looked at his hand, then at her.
"Alright, alright," he said with a small sigh.
He raised his uninjured hand in surrender.
"But let’s meet him first, and then we’ll go. You will come with me, right?"
Daisy nodded with a big smile.
Alessio smiled back.
He already knew she wasn’t going to let him leave without getting his hand treated.
Daisy gestured for him to follow her and the two of them walked back toward Cedric’s room.
When they reached the ward, the door was slightly open.
Daisy didn’t think much of it.
She quietly pushed it open and stepped inside.
Then she stopped.
Her whole body went still.
Alessio, who had been walking just behind her, also slowed down.
Daisy’s eyes widened.
Her heart seemed to drop straight into her stomach.
Cedric was on the bed, and Jessica was standing close to him. Their lips were pressed together...t-hey.. they were kissing.
For a few seconds, Daisy couldn’t even process what she was seeing.
A sharp sting spread through her chest.
Her face became hot.
Her cheeks burned, and her eyes suddenly felt painfully warm.
She immediately looked down.
She didn’t want to see it.
She didn’t want Alessio to see her expression either.
Most of all, she didn’t want to look at him.
Her fingers tightened around the edge of her dress as embarrassment washed over her.
She knew she hadn’t done anything wrong.
But she was suddenly afraid of what he might think.
Would he pity her?
Would he think she had been foolish for staying with Cedric?
She wanted to disappear from the room.
Beside her, Alessio had gone completely still.
His eyes moved from Cedric and Jessica to Daisy.
He saw the way her shoulders had stiffened, the color drain from her face, and how she was deliberately avoiding his gaze.
Something cold settled inside him.
He didn’t say anything.
His injured hand curled slightly at his side.
"Did we disturb the lovebirds?" Alessio asked, his voice carrying a hint of dry amusement.
Cedric immediately pushed Jessica away.
His eyes went straight to Daisy.
Panic flashed across his face before he could hide it.
"This isn’t what it looks like!" Cedric blurted out.
The words came out far too quickly.
Cedric himself seemed surprised by his reaction. Why was he explaining himself to Daisy? He had never cared much about what she thought before. He had openly told her that his heart belonged to Jessica, so why did the sight of Daisy standing there suddenly make his chest tighten?
Daisy lowered her gaze.
Alessio noticed.
His eyes moved toward Cedric and a faint chuckle escaped him.
"Oh?" Alessio raised an eyebrow.
Cedric’s expression darkened.
"What’s funny?" Cedric snapped.
"Nothing," Alessio replied with an innocent smile. "I was just admiring how quickly you started explaining yourself."
Cedric’s jaw clenched.
"I don’t need to explain anything to you," Cedric said through gritted teeth.
"I know," Alessio said calmly. "But you can explain it to your wife."
Cedric’s expression stiffened.
His eyes immediately returned to Daisy.
"Daisy, I—" Cedric began, his voice faltering.
She shook her head quickly.
She didn’t want to hear it.
She didn’t want to stand there any longer.
Alessio noticed the way her fingers were trembling.
He stepped closer to her.
Daisy looked up in surprise.
Before she could understand what he was doing, Alessio gently cupped her face.
Her eyes widened.
Cedric froze.
"What are you—" Cedric started, his voice rising.
Alessio lowered his head.
"Cooperate with me," he murmured quietly, so only Daisy could hear.
Daisy barely had time to process his words.
His lips touched the corner of hers deliberately. The contact was brief, but it sent a shockwave through her entire body. She could feel his breath fanning against her skin, warm and uneven, mingling with her own.
Her nose filled with his scent, something clean and masculine, mixed with the faint hint of his cologne and the natural musk of his body.
She could feel the solid strength of him standing so close, his presence consuming every inch of her awareness. Her skin tingled where his breath touched.
From Cedric’s angle, it looked as though Alessio had kissed her directly.
His eyes widened.
"What the hell?!" Cedric shouted.
Jessica’s eyebrows lifted.
Then a slow, amused smile appeared on her face.
Well.
This was interesting.
She looked at Daisy and then at Alessio.
The little mute had apparently found herself an extraordinarily confident man.
And judging by his clothes, his expensive watch and the way he carried himself, he certainly didn’t look ordinary.
Cedric stared at them in disbelief.
"Who the f*ck are you?" Cedric demanded, his voice shaking with anger.
Alessio slowly lifted his head.
He looked completely calm.
"That’s a little rude," Alessio remarked.
"You just kissed my wife!" Cedric yelled.
Alessio glanced at Daisy.
Then back at Cedric.
"Did I?" Alessio asked, his tone deliberately casual.
Cedric’s face darkened.
"You know exactly what you did!" Cedric spat.
Alessio gave him a small smile.
"Interesting. I thought you were busy," Alessio said smoothly.
Cedric’s eyes narrowed.
"Don’t play games with me," Cedric warned.
"I’m not," Alessio replied, his voice remaining irritatingly relaxed. "I’m simply returning the favor."
"What favor?" Cedric demanded.
Alessio tilted his head.
"You kissed your girlfriend in front of my girl--friend," Alessio pointed out.
