Mafia Lord's Mute Sweetheart

Chapter 167 What happened?

Chapter 167: Chapter 167 What happened?

A few moments later, the hospital room door suddenly opened.

"Babyyyy! What happened to you?"

Jessica’s worried voice filled the room as she hurried inside, her heels clicking against the floor. Her red hair bounced with each step, and her face was a mask of concern.

The moment she saw Cedric lying on the hospital bed, her expression changed completely. Her eyes widened and her hand flew to her mouth.

"Cedric!"

She rushed straight toward him and threw her arms around him, pulling him into a tight embrace.

Daisy, who had been standing beside the bed, was caught off guard when Jessica pushed past her. She stumbled a step to the side and quickly steadied herself against the edge of the chair. Her eyes widened slightly, and she stepped back to create distance.

Jessica didn’t even seem to notice.

"Oh my God, look at you!" she exclaimed, carefully touching Cedric’s face. Her fingers traced the edges of the bandage near his forehead. "Who did this to you? Why didn’t you tell me? I was so worried when I heard!"

Cedric winced slightly as she hugged him too tightly. His ribs were still tender, and her grip pressed against the bruises.

"Jessica... I’m okay."

"You’re not okay!" she immediately protested, pulling back to look at his face. "Look at your face! Look at your lip! Who would dare to do this to you?"

Cedric gently tried to move her arms away.

"I’m really fine."

But while he was speaking, his eyes moved toward Daisy. She was standing quietly a few steps away, her hands clasped in front of her. Her expression was difficult to read but there was clear discomfort in her eyes. She looked like she wanted to disappear.

Cedric’s gaze focused on her for a moment.

Daisy looked at Jessica, then at Cedric. She didn’t want to stay there anymore. The room suddenly felt too small, too crowded. She picked up her phone from the table and gestured toward the door.

I’m going outside.

Cedric’s expression changed almost immediately. His eyes dimmed. He had been so focused on Jessica’s arrival that he hadn’t expected Daisy to leave so quickly.

"Wait..."

But Daisy had already turned away. She didn’t look back.

Cedric watched her walk toward the door. For some reason, a strange heaviness settled in his chest. He didn’t understand why. Why did watching Daisy leave suddenly make him feel disappointed?

He lowered his gaze.

"Okay..." he said quietly.

Daisy paused for only a second when she heard his voice. Then she continued toward the door.

Cedric watched until she disappeared from his sight.

Jessica noticed his expression and frowned slightly. Her eyes narrowed, studying his face.

"Cedric?"

He looked back at her.

"What?"

"You were looking at her."

Cedric’s expression stiffened. He opened his mouth, then closed it.

"I was just..." He stopped. He didn’t even know what he had been doing.

Jessica studied him for another moment before moving closer to him again. Her hand found his.

"Don’t worry about her. I’m here now."

Cedric didn’t answer. His eyes remained fixed on the closed door for a few seconds longer.

"Don’t worry about her," Jessica said softly, turning Cedric’s face back toward her with a gentle touch. Her fingers rested under his chin, guiding his attention back to her. "But tell me, how did this happen? The moment I heard you were in the hospital, I rushed here."

Her fingers gently brushed his cheek, careful around the bruised area, her touch tender and concerned.

Cedric looked at her for a moment before sighing.

"It happened last night."

Jessica’s expression became serious.

"What happened?"

"I was at the bar with Liam and Naomi. I left them for a while and when I was heading out, some men cornered me."

Her eyes widened, a flash of fear crossing her face.

"Men?"

Cedric nodded, his jaw tightening at the memory.

"I don’t know who they were. They didn’t say anything. They just attacked me."

"Did you recognize any of them?"

"No."

Jessica looked increasingly worried, her brow furrowed.

"Were they after you? Was this related to your business?"

"I don’t know." Cedric’s jaw tightened. "That’s what I’m trying to figure out."

Jessica gently rubbed his cheek again, her thumb tracing the edge of the bruise.

"Did they take anything?"

"My phone."

Her eyebrows shot up in surprise.

"Your phone too?"

"Yeah."

"That’s horrible."

Cedric leaned back against the pillow, his body aching.

"They didn’t say a word. That’s what makes it strange. If someone wanted to threaten me, they could have told me who sent them."

Jessica looked at him with concern, her dark eyes searching his face.

"Maybe they were trying to scare you."

Cedric gave a humorless laugh.

"They succeeded in making me angry."

"Don’t think about revenge right now," Jessica said immediately, her voice firm. "You’re injured. You should be resting."

Cedric looked at her.

"I’m not going to sit around doing nothing. Whoever did this needs to be found."

Jessica nodded slowly, though she still looked worried.

"Your mother is already trying to find out what happened, isn’t she?"

"Knowing Mom, she’s probably called half the city by now."

Jessica gave a small laugh.

"She loves you."

"I know."

Cedric fell silent for a moment, his gaze drifting away.

Then his eyes unconsciously moved toward the closed door.

Jessica noticed. She didn’t comment this time, but her eyes narrowed slightly.

Instead, she gently rested her hand over his.

"At least you’re safe now."

Cedric looked down at their hands. Then he nodded.

"Yeah."

But despite Jessica sitting beside him, his mind kept returning to something completely different.

Daisy had been there when he woke up. She had stayed beside him all day. She had brought his medicine, helped him drink water, worried whenever he complained of pain, and even laughed when he behaved like a stubborn child about his tablets.

And then Jessica had arrived.

Daisy had quietly left.

Cedric didn’t understand why he kept thinking about it.
