Chapter 162 Who the hell did this to my son?

Chapter 162: Chapter 162 Who the hell did this to my son?

When they finally arrived at the hospital, Jenna got out first.

"Come."

Daisy followed quickly. The cold night air hit her face but she barely noticed.

The bright hospital lights made everything feel strangely unreal at that hour. Nurses moved through the corridors, doctors spoke quietly among themselves.

Jenna hurried toward the reception desk.

"We’re here for Cedric Evermont. He was brought in tonight."

The receptionist checked the records, her fingers moving across the keyboard.

"He’s currently being treated. The doctor will speak with the family shortly."

Daisy stood beside Jenna, her face pale. Her eyes remained fixed on the corridor leading toward the emergency rooms.

She didn’t know what had happened to Cedric. But please... please let him be okay.

After waiting for what felt like a long time, the doctor finally came out of the treatment room. The door swung open and a middle-aged man in a white coat stepped out, his expression calm but tired.

Jenna immediately stood up, her hands clenched at her sides.

"Doctor?"

The doctor gave them a reassuring nod. His eyes moved from Jenna to Daisy, then back again.

"He’s alright. He has several injuries, bruises on his ribs, a split lip, and some cuts on his hands and face, but fortunately, nothing appears to be life-threatening. We’ve cleaned and treated the wounds and he needs plenty of rest. He’s been given medication for the pain, so he’ll likely sleep for a few hours."

Daisy’s shoulders immediately relaxed. A wave of relief washed over her, so strong that she felt slightly dizzy.

She hadn’t realized how tense she had been until that moment. Her hands, which had been clenched in her lap, slowly uncurled. She quietly let out a breath of relief and lowered her eyes for a moment, steadying herself.

"Can we see him?" Jenna asked, her voice sharp with impatience.

"Yes. Just don’t disturb him too much. He’s exhausted and needs to rest. I’ll check on him again in the morning."

Jenna nodded and immediately walked toward the room, her heels clicking against the floor. She was dressed perfectly for coming to the hospital.

Daisy followed behind her, her steps slower, more hesitant.

When she entered, she saw Cedric lying on the hospital bed. His eyes were closed, and he appeared to be sleeping. His breathing was slow and even, his chest rising and falling beneath the thin hospital blanket.

There was a small bandage near his forehead, another around his hand, and his lower lip was still slightly swollen from the injury. A faint bruise was forming along his jawline.

Daisy stopped near the doorway. For a few seconds, she simply looked at him.

Despite everything that had happened between them, despite the cold words and the arguments and the way he had treated her, seeing him lying there injured still made something inside her ache.

Jenna, however, looked furious. Her face was pale with anger and her eyes were blazing.

She walked toward the bed and stared at her son, her hands clenched.

"Who the hell did this to my son?"

Her voice echoed through the room.

Daisy flinched slightly, her shoulders tensing.

Jenna’s hands tightened.

"Who would dare touch him like this?"

Daisy quietly bit her lip. She didn’t know either.

Jenna turned toward her.

"You stay here with him."

Daisy blinked, surprised.

Jenna pointed toward Cedric.

"I’m going to find out who did this."

She was already walking toward the door before Daisy could respond.

Daisy nodded quietly, watching her leave.

The door closed behind Jenna. The room became peaceful again.

Daisy looked at Cedric. She hesitated before pulling a chair closer to the bed. The legs scraped softly against the floor. She sat down beside him, resting her hands in her lap.

For a while, she simply watched him sleep.

He looked completely different when he wasn’t awake. The usual tension was absent from his face. His brows weren’t furrowed and his jaw was relaxed. He actually looked... innocent.

But he’s not.

Daisy lowered her eyes.

She still remembered what he had said to her.

I love Jessica.

I will give you a divorce.

You don’t want alimony? Is that another trick to attract me?

Her chest tightened slightly, a familiar ache settling in.

A few minutes later, the door opened.

Daisy looked up.

A young woman entered first, followed by a man. The woman was dressed in party wear and her eyes immediately searched the room before landing on the hospital bed.

"Cedric..."

Then her eyes shifted toward Daisy. She stopped, her gaze flickering with surprise.

Daisy was still sitting beside the bed in the chair. She had clearly been woken up in the middle of the night and hadn’t had time to properly prepare herself. Her hair was slightly messy. She looked tired and slightly disheveled, but despite that, she looked naturally beautiful.

The woman studied her for a moment. Her eyes swept over Daisy’s face, taking in the dark circles beneath her eyes and the night clothes.

"I’m Naomi, Cedric’s best friend," she introduced herself.

Daisy blinked and nodded politely. Yes, she knew her, but Cedric had never introduced her to his friends.

The man beside her also stepped forward.

"Liam. I’m also his best friend."

Daisy gave him a small nod.

Liam’s gaze moved from Daisy to Cedric. He noticed how quietly she had been sitting there. Her hands were folded in her lap and she looked like she had been there for a while.

His expression became slightly complicated.

Cedric had always complained about his marriage, always talked about how trapped he felt, always insisted that Daisy was nothing but a burden. But looking at Daisy now, sitting beside his bed in the middle of the night, without even having gotten dressed properly and looking exhausted, Liam couldn’t help wondering how different things might have been if Cedric had actually appreciated the woman beside him.

Naomi checked her phone and sighed softly, her red nails tapping against the screen. She glanced at the time, then at the door, then back at her phone again. The screen glowed with missed calls from her parents, each one more insistent than the last.

"I should probably go home. My parents have been calling me for the last two hours."

Liam glanced at her phone. "Then you should go. I’ll stay here."

Naomi nodded and looked toward Cedric one last time before turning to Daisy.

"Take care of him."

Daisy nodded politely, her expression gentle but unreadable. She didn’t say anything. She couldn’t.

Naomi smiled at her before leaving the room. Anyway, Daisy was not her rival but Jessica was.

The door closed behind her, and, Liam found himself alone with Daisy.
