Chapter 163: Chapter 163 Whoever did this is going to regret touching my son
He glanced at her. She was sitting quietly beside Cedric’s bed, her hands resting in her lap. There was still a tiredness around her eyes, but she looked calm, almost peaceful. The fluorescent lights of the hospital room cast a soft glow on her face.
Liam pulled a chair closer and sat down. "Hi."
Daisy looked at him, her dark eyes curious.
"Are you tired?"
Daisy opened her mouth instinctively, then stopped. She simply smiled and shook her head.
Liam blinked. For a second, he stared at her. Then his eyes widened.
"Oh..." He remembered. Oh, right. She couldn’t speak.
"Oh, shit." Liam rubbed the back of his neck, looking genuinely embarrassed. "Sorry. I completely forgot."
Daisy quickly shook her head, telling him it was fine. Her hands moved in a small, dismissive gesture.
"No, no, don’t do that. I just asked you a question like you were going to answer me." He looked around the room, his eyes scanning the sterile environment. "Okay, we need a solution."
Daisy watched him curiously, a small smile playing at the corners of her lips.
Liam suddenly straightened, snapping his fingers. "Wait here. I’ll get you a pen and paper."
Daisy nodded.
Liam rushed out. She watched the door close behind him. A few seconds passed. Then she heard footsteps running down the hallway. Then they disappeared. More footsteps appeared, then someone seemed to run back in the opposite direction.
Daisy blinked. What was he doing?
A minute later, Liam appeared at the doorway, slightly out of breath. He was holding a pen in one hand. Daisy smiled.
Then he lifted his other hand proudly, a small stack of old used hospital forms. He looked at them. Then at Daisy.
"...These are not blank."
He immediately turned around and disappeared again.
Daisy covered her mouth, trying not to laugh. Her shoulders shook with silent laughter.
A few moments later, he returned. This time he was holding a proper notepad and three pens. He walked toward her with a serious face like he had just completed a very important mission.
"There." He placed everything carefully on the table. "I wasn’t going to make the same mistake twice."
Daisy looked at the three pens. Then at him.
Liam pointed at them. "One might stop working." He pointed at the second. "Backup." Then the third. "Emergency backup."
Daisy couldn’t hold it anymore. She laughed silently, her shoulders shaking. Her eyes crinkled at the corners and her whole face lit up with amusement.
Liam stared at her for a second before grinning. He sat down beside her. "Now we can communicate properly."
Daisy picked up the pen and wrote something on the notepad. Her handwriting was neat and careful.
Thank you.
She turned it toward him.
Liam read it and smiled. "You’re welcome, sister-in-law."
Daisy wrote again.
You are funny.
Liam looked pleased. "I know."
Daisy immediately rolled her eyes playfully.
He laughed. "Okay, okay. Maybe a little."

Meanwhile, Jenna returned home but there was no way she was going to sleep after seeing her son in that condition.
She tossed her coat onto a nearby chair, not caring where it landed, and immediately pulled out her phone, her face still tense with anger.
She dialed her private detective without hesitation, not even glancing at the time.
"I want you to find out who did this to Cedric."
There was a brief silence on the other end. She could hear the detective shifting, probably still half-asleep.
"Ma’am, it’s already very late. We can start first thing in the morning—"
"No."
Her voice became sharp and brash.
"I want you to start tonight."
She paced across the living room, her heels clicking against the marble floor in an angry rhythm.
"My son was attacked, beaten and left injured in an alley. I don’t care if it takes one person or twenty people to investigate this. I want to know who was responsible. I want names. I want faces. I want everything."
"Yes, ma’am."
"And I want everything. Where he was before the attack, who he met, who followed him, who was nearby, and whether anyone from his business has recently threatened him. Check the cameras around the area too. I want to know every single detail."
"I’ll look into it."
Jenna ended the call and stood there for a moment, still furious, her chest rising and falling with rapid breaths. But apparently, that wasn’t enough. The anger inside her demanded more action.
She immediately picked up her phone again and started calling people.
The first call went to one of her close friends. The phone rang several times before a sleepy voice answered.
"Jenna? It’s the middle of the night. What’s wrong?"
"Did you hear what happened to Cedric?"
The voice on the other end sharpened. "No, what happened?"
"He was attacked tonight. Someone beat him badly and left him in an alley. He’s in the hospital right now."
Her friend immediately became more alert. "Is he alright?"
"Thankfully, the doctors said his injuries aren’t life-threatening, but look at what someone did to my son!" Jenna’s voice trembled with anger. "I’m going to find whoever did this."
She ended that call and immediately called another friend. Then another. Each conversation started the same way and each time she repeated the story, her anger seemed to grow.
It was well past midnight, but Jenna didn’t care. She was going to make sure everyone knew what had happened to her son.
"I don’t know who is behind it yet," she said during one call, pacing near the window. "But I’ll find out."
Her friend tried to calm her. "Jenna, don’t do anything rash."
"Rash?" Jenna scoffed, her voice rising. "Someone attacked my son and thought they could simply walk away from it. They don’t know who they’ve provoked."
Another call connected. Jenna immediately began explaining everything again.
"I’ve already sent my detective to investigate. I’m not waiting until tomorrow. I want answers now."
She finally sat down on the sofa but even then she couldn’t relax. Her fingers drummed against the armrest, her mind running with thoughts of revenge and justice. Her mind kept returning to Cedric lying injured in that hospital bed.
Her son.
Her only concern at that moment was finding the person responsible.
"I swear," she muttered under her breath, gripping her phone tightly, "whoever did this is going to regret touching my son."
And then she called another person to tell everything.
