Chapter 338: Eira’s biological mother.
Maria blinked in confusion.
"Expose?"
However, Clara didn’t linger to explain what she was about to do. She simply turned around and walked away, heading straight toward her car.
Behind her, Maria hurried to follow.
She had no idea what Clara was planning, but judging from the expression on her face, it definitely wasn’t something she should take lightly.

Back at Sanctuary Heights,
When Karl saw Adelyn frowning, he couldn’t help but feel confused.
Did he say something wrong?
"Sister-in-law?" he called out to her.
But Adelyn didn’t respond.
She didn’t move.
Only her expression grew tenser, as if she were trying to make sense of something that she couldn’t quite understand.
Her eyes remained fixed somewhere ahead, but her mind was clearly somewhere else.
And seeing her like that only made Karl more confused.
He moved his hand in front of her face a couple of times.
When she finally blinked and gazed at him, he asked, "What got you into such a deep thought?"
He paused for a second before continuing, "I just said that you’re Little Eira’s mother, and it caught you so intensely that you—"
"How am I Eira’s mother?" she asked, still seemingly trapped in her thoughts. "I don’t remember having her."
Karl blinked.
"What?"
His expression immediately turned half-dramatic.
"You forgot Eira?"
Eira, on the other hand, who had been busy with her colors the entire time, froze.
The little girl’s hand stopped in the middle of coloring.
She slowly turned to look back toward Adelyn, her eyes already silently filling with tears.
However, she didn’t cry.
She just stood there for a second, almost as though she were trying to understand what she had just heard.
Then, she slowly got up and walked toward Adelyn again.
But this time, there was a quiet hesitation in her movements.
Her little steps were no longer as carefree as before.
It was as if a fear was gnawing at her innocent heart, making each step toward Adelyn uncertain.
Adelyn hadn’t even had time to react to Karl’s words.
Before she could tell him that wasn’t what she meant, from the corner of her eyes, she had already seen Eira move.
"Baby..." she called out softly.
And in that very second, Little Eira rushed into her arms like a gust of air that was terrified of losing something precious.
Something really, really precious.
Adelyn’s arms instinctively wrapped around the girl.
The moment she held her, she could feel the little girl’s heartbeat thumping wildly against her chest. It was beating so fast that Adelyn could almost feel the fear in every single beat.
"Mama ..." Eira asked softly, her voice trembling with fear. "Did you forget Eira?"
Adelyn felt her heart clench.
"No ... no, baby. I didn’t," she said without taking another second.
She feared that if she hesitated even for a second, the little girl would shatter in her arms.
"I didn’t forget you."
Eira remained curled into her arms, not moving even a little.
Her tiny fingers clung tightly to Adelyn’s clothes, as though letting go would somehow make her disappear again.
After a second, she asked again, "Really?"
Adelyn only tightened her arms around her and reassured her, "Really, sweetie. I cannot forget you."
However, the girl still didn’t completely relax.
She slowly turned in Adelyn’s arms, lifting her head a little to look at her mother. Her eyes searched Adelyn’s face carefully.
Almost as though she were trying to find proof that the woman holding her was still the same Mama she knew.
Only when she saw the same familiarity in Adelyn’s eyes did she finally believe her.
Still, the thought of her mother forgetting her again had shaken the little girl internally. She couldn’t help but tear up, a small sniffle escaping her.
Adelyn heard her sobs and quickly softened even more, gently cooing to her.
"Baby, why are you still crying? I’m still here, and I remember you. Don’t cry, okay?"
She gently wiped away the warm tears that rolled down Eira’s cheeks.
Little Eira’s lips trembled a few more times before she tightened them into a pout. Then, slowly, her gaze shifted toward her uncle.
She turned her head and glared at Karl.
She didn’t say anything.
But her eyes—
They were too sharp.
So sharp that, for a second, Karl was reminded of his brother.
That same intimidating gaze.
That same silent warning.
Except this time, it was coming from a tiny little girl who had just been crying in his arms a moment ago.
Eira had never seen him that way before.
Karl shuddered under the girl’s intense gaze.
Stuttering, he quickly tried to explain, "My precious Eira, don’t look at your uncle like that. Uncle didn’t mean to scare you. I just ... just misunderstood something."
But apparently, that wasn’t a good enough reason for the little girl.
She couldn’t forgive him just because he had misunderstood.
When Eira’s gaze didn’t soften even a little, Karl hurriedly apologized more sincerely.
"My precious one, I’m really sorry. Can you forgive me?"
Eira still looked at him with the same expression. Her little face was filled with disappointment.
Then, pulling away from Adelyn’s arms, she said, "Eira is not forgiving Third Uncle."
And then, she sprinted away.
She didn’t return to the table.
Rather, she ran straight toward the stairs, her little legs moving as quickly as they could.
She didn’t even look back once.
Karl was dumbfounded.
He sat there staring after her, unable to understand what had just happened.
Of course, since he didn’t know what had scared the girl so much, he couldn’t understand her reaction at all.
As far as he knew, he had simply misunderstood Adelyn’s question.
He hadn’t intended to scare Eira.
He hadn’t even known the little girl was listening.
But Adelyn ...
She somehow understood.
And she felt it.
The fear with which the little one had hugged her before was just too tangible.
That wasn’t the reaction of a child who had merely heard something she didn’t like.
That was the reaction of a child who had been terrified of losing someone all over again.
And the thought made Adelyn’s heart ache.
She looked toward the stairs where Eira had disappeared.
The little girl had been so happy just moments ago.
She had been coloring.
Laughing.
Calling her Mama.
And then, one careless sentence had brought fear into those bright eyes.
Adelyn’s fingers curled slightly.
She didn’t like seeing her like that.
Not even a little.
"Sister-in-law, did Little Eira just get upset with me?" Karl asked, turning toward her.
And frowning, Adelyn glared at him.
"What do you think?"
"I..."
Karl parted his lips and pointed at himself, not understanding how he was supposed to explain himself.
He was just answering his sister-in-law.
How had he somehow ended up upsetting his precious niece instead?
He genuinely felt wronged.
"Sister-in-law, wasn’t I just helping you?" he asked helplessly. "It was you who said you forgot Eira."
"That’s exactly what I’m asking you."
Adelyn’s expression remained serious.
"If I am Eira’s mother, how did I forget her?"
Karl felt confused once again. "You forgot her?" he pointed in the direction of the staircase. "But didn’t you say you didn’t?"
His expression reflected his exact struggle.
He looked at Adelyn.
Then toward the stairs.
Then back at Adelyn.
His brows slowly furrowed.
Something about her words didn’t seem right.
Or rather ...
Something about the question she had originally asked him finally started to make sense.
Suddenly, something clicked in his mind.
His eyes widened.
He almost jumped to his feet.
"Wait ..."
Karl looked at her again and asked very ... very seriously.
"Sister-in-law, you weren’t actually asking about Little Eira’s biological mother, were you?"
