Love Across the Light Years -The Devil CEO Indulges My Lies.

Chapter 339: Then what about your brother?

Chapter 339: Then what about your brother?

Adelyn stared at him, her brows knitting together.

"What else did you think I was asking?"

Karl pursed his lips into a thin line, rendered completely speechless.

He slowly sat back down and covered his face with one hand.

"I definitely didn’t think you were asking that, sister-in-law. I thought you were asking about yourself. And I answered for the same."

"Same?" Adelyn repeated, her brows furrowing deeper. "How’s that the same?"

Karl removed his hand from his face and looked at her. "Of course, it’s the same. You’re Eira’s mother. How’s that different?"

Adelyn glared at him.

Karl immediately realized that he needed to choose his words more carefully.

He hurried to explain his assumption, "I mean, Eira calls you Mama, and you love her like a mother loves her child. You’re even my brother’s woman. So, it’s practically the same thing, isn’t it?"

Adelyn stared at him.

And suddenly, the clouded misunderstanding in her thoughts started clearing.

She wanted to snap at Karl.

But then again ...

The misunderstanding had been so obvious from the very beginning.

How had she not seen it?

How had she ended up thinking that Eira was her baby and that she had somehow forgotten her?

How was that even making sense?

So, it wasn’t that brat who had made her misunderstand.

It was her own thoughts.

She had been so caught up in the possibility that she might have forgotten something from her past that she had completely overlooked what Karl had actually meant.

Adelyn closed her eyes and pinched the space between her brows.

Karl looked at her and was at a loss for what to do.

After a moment, Adelyn finally asked, "Then who’s she?"

She kept her eyes closed as she continued pinching the space between her brows.

Karl blinked.

"Who?" he asked, this time not daring to make another assumption himself.

But when Adelyn opened her eyes and glared at him, he quickly swallowed.

"If you’re asking about her biological mother, I have no idea."

Adelyn frowned.

Karl quickly added to explain, "I don’t know, and neither do Felix and Jasper. None of us has any idea about that woman."

His expression became more serious.

"All we know is that she was someone who abandoned Little Eira right after her birth and left my brother. My brother brought Eira back only later. We met her when she was around one and a half years old."

Karl still remembered the first time he had seen the little one.

He had immediately become attached to her. Partly because the girl had looked far too adorable to resist.

But also because, as adorable as Eira was, she was equally pitiful.

A child so young without a mother ...

It was difficult not to feel sorry for her.

They had all gone through the pain of growing up without a mother, and seeing the little girl suffer the same fate had made them understand her pain in a way others might not.

They knew what it was like to grow up with that emptiness.

And perhaps that was why all of them had instinctively wanted to protect Eira.

Even though she had been so young, they had never treated her as merely their brother’s daughter.

She had quickly become their own precious little one.

Adelyn’s face turned cold.

"So, no one knows who she is or why she left Eira like that?"

Karl paused for a second before shaking his head.

"We have no clue," he said. "Jasper and Felix even tried looking for her, but nothing helped them trace her."

Adelyn’s brows furrowed.

"Then what about your brother?" she asked, her tone being both curious and cautious. "Does he also not know who she is? Or did he not tell you?"

Back at Scott Villa,

Liam’s car rolled in before finally pulling up right at the entrance of the house.

He had stayed at the company for two straight days and was only returning now.

He was completely exhausted.

Not just because he was the CEO of Starlight Entertainment, with countless responsibilities constantly waiting for him, but also because, apart from handling his own CEO duties, he had the responsibility of managing Clara’s career as well.

It wasn’t merely tiring anymore.

It was exhausting him.

And with the recent situation surrounding The Empress’s Grief, things had become even more troublesome.

He had barely gotten enough rest during the past two days.

Opening the car door, Liam stepped out.

He paused for a second, closing his eyes briefly as though trying to gather whatever little energy he had left.

He had planned to freshen up first and then rest for a while.

Perhaps, if he was lucky, he would even be able to sleep for a few hours without anyone disturbing him.

However ...

The moment he entered the house and turned towards the staircase, a deep, strong voice made him halt.

"Stop there, Liam!!"

Liam recognized that voice far too well.

Even so, hearing it at home still surprised him. He hadn’t been expecting to hear it.

Slowly, he turned around.

In the living room, he saw his father sitting on the sofa, looking every bit as commanding as Liam remembered.

"Dad," he greeted softly before walking toward him.

Benjamin was already in his sixties.

But even now, he looked considerably younger than his age.

His hair had streaks of white running through it, but instead of making him look old, they somehow enhanced his presence.

They gave him the dignified appearance of a man who had spent decades standing at the head of one of the influential families in the society.

As the Chairman of Scott Enterprises, Benjamin carried an authority that didn’t need to be announced.

It simply existed around him.

Dressed in a formal suit, he looked as though he had just returned from the airport.

"Dad, you’re back?" Liam asked.

He then turned his gaze toward his mother, who was sitting right there with Clara.

"How come I wasn’t aware that you were coming?"

"Do I need to report it to you before coming back?" Benjamin asked.

His tone alone was enough to make Liam lower his gaze slightly.

"No, Dad. I didn’t mean it that way." Liam quickly clarified. "It was just that if I had known, I would have picked you up from the airport."

Charlotte’s expression wasn’t particularly pleasant when she saw her son.

She looked at him for a moment before finally explaining, "How was I supposed to tell you? You haven’t cared to return home at all."

Liam looked at her.

He was about to tell her that he had simply been caught up at the company.

But before he could explain himself, Benjamin’s voice cut off his intention.

"Let me ask you one thing."

Liam immediately turned toward him.

Benjamin’s gaze remained fixed on him.

There was nothing casual about his expression; rather, there was a sharp edge in his voice that almost carried a subtle threat.

"Did you invest in Goldstem Productions’ upcoming project, The Empress’s Grief??"
