Chapter 423: Chapter 400: Here Comes the Reaper (3)
But amidst the chaotic sea of fire, one place remained unscathed.
The granary.
Over a dozen Alchemy Bombs had smashed solidly against its silver-gray dome.
CLANG! CLANG! BOOM!
The violent blast engulfed the roof in flames, but when the smoke and dust cleared, the expensive, magic-resistant metal plating was merely blackened, with a few shallow dents on its surface.
They had held.
This special alloy, capable of deflecting even a Middle Tier Exploding Fireball, had withstood the full impact of the Alchemy Bombs.
"Ha! Hahahaha!"
Rolf, who had just taken a nasty fall, couldn’t help but let out a wild laugh upon seeing this. He pointed at the sky, his face contorted.
"See that! This is the power of Gold Coins! That’s a turtle shell that not even a dragon could easily scratch! You bastards are useless! Useless!"
High in the sky.
Ola stared down at the silver dome still standing below, his brow furrowed deeply.
[’A tough nut to crack.’]
Stuka’s voice rang in his mind, tinged with annoyance. [’Those iron eggs might as well be hitting an anvil. Even the sound is unsatisfying. That metal skin is too thick. A normal drop won’t break through.’]
[’Then we’ll find a new way to smash it.’]
A scarlet glint flashed in Ola’s eyes, and he yanked hard on the reins.
[’If power isn’t enough, we’ll make up for it with altitude.’]
[’If the explosives can’t break it, then we’ll turn ourselves into the nails.’]
[’All units!’]
Ola’s voice echoed grimly through the psychic link, laced with a chilling madness.
[’Climb! Get me above the cloud layer! I want to see the sea of clouds beneath our feet!’]
Stuka let out a high-pitched shriek as its massive wings beat powerfully against the air. It stopped circling and shot vertically toward the heavens.
The other Knights followed close behind.
Below, Rolf was stunned.
"They’re running?" He watched the black dots disappear back into the clouds, his smile growing even more arrogant. "Running away because it’s too tough a nut to crack? Cowards! A bunch of cowards!"
But his smile lasted less than a minute.
Because that unnerving, tooth-grinding hum had returned.
And this time, it was sharper and more piercing than ever before.
The clouds were suddenly torn apart. It wasn’t just a hole; it was as if the entire sky was collapsing.
Stuka led the charge, wings tucked in, plummeting vertically like a white meteor with world-destroying momentum.
And behind it, the entire squadron of "devils" followed, each pushing their limits into extreme overload.
A full one hundred and one Big Thief Gulls, forming a white meteor shower of death.
On their racks, each bird still carried its last two "Screamers."
Two hundred bombs.
Their falling speed increased, faster and faster.
The terrifying force, accumulated from a nearly ten-thousand-meter fall, was being frenetically converted into unstoppable kinetic energy.
Ola stared at the silver dome, his eyes so bloodshot that two lines of bloody tears streamed from their corners, yet he was smiling.
[’Lads, lock onto that fortress!’]
[’Listen to that screaming in your ears! That’s the death knell we’re ringing for them!’]
[’No one survives this judgment from the heavens! No one!’]
Ola’s eyes were so red they looked ready to drip blood as he roared into the channel.
[’The Reaper is here!!!’]
The next second, the Knights roared in unison.
[’The Reaper is here!!!’]
At the extreme range of less than two hundred meters from the ground, Stuka let out a soul-tearing roar and violently pulled up its head.
Immediately after, a hundred roars sounded at once.
The hooks snapped open.
Two hundred armor-piercing iron canisters, endowed with extreme initial velocity, detached from the underbellies of the birds.
They weren’t just bombs; they were two hundred siege hammers, swung at incredible speed.
"WHOOSH—BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG!!!"
There was no suspense.
The magic-resistant metal plating that had withstood the first wave of bombing, the very defense Rolf had been so proud of, was now as fragile as paper.
The first bomb, carrying terrifying kinetic energy from its descent, pierced straight through the dome.
It was followed by the second, the third, the tenth... the hundredth...
Without a moment’s pause, they brutally drilled into the heart of the granary one after another, riddling the sturdy defensive structure until it looked like a hornet’s nest.
And then.
"KABOOOM!!!"
A massive sympathetic detonation erupted inside the granary.
It wasn’t just the Alchemy Bombs; a dust explosion was also to thank.
Thousands of tons of dry flour ignited. A giant fireball erupted from within, blowing the roof and its twisted metal plates clean off, launching everything hundreds of meters into the air like a volcanic eruption.
A massive shockwave swept through, slamming Rolf directly against a wall. He sprayed a torrent of blood.
In his last moment before losing consciousness, all he saw were the strange white birds filling the sky, illuminated by the firelight as they uniformly pulled up into soaring arcs.
By the time Ola led the squadron back up to a safe altitude, the once-indestructible granary below had become a giant torch.
[’Hell yeah!’]
Stuka roared in his mind, its voice filled with the cathartic ecstasy of release.
[’Now THAT’S the right way to crack a nut! The sound of that shell breaking was beautiful!’]
Ola gasped for breath, wiping away the blood that had trickled from his nostrils.
A side effect of the high-speed pull-up.
But he didn’t care.
He glanced back at the hundred brothers behind him, their faces also covered in blood, but grinning like devils.
"This is what you call judgment from the sky."
Ola gave a low chuckle. Watching the pillar of fire raging below, he pulled a healing potion from his pocket and chugged it down.
"Speed is the only truth."
