"It’s utterly impossible," Yama Raja stated slowly. "Authority is not unique, so there can be multiple Crowned Kings wielding the same one. But the Divinity at the end of that path is singular. Each Authority can only create one God, leaving no path for those who come after. The highest they can ever reach is Demigod. And the Netherworld is the manifestation of the Divinity of the ’death’ Authority... In other words, the Authority of ’death’ already has a God. Our path is completely blocked.

The Artificial Death God project, then, is about animating the Authority of death, creating a ’mechanical Death God’ under our control."
