Chapter 729: Chapter 454: Re-enactment 2
To be fair, if it really came down to it, he would have stepped up. But that was his decision to make. What Carol did was pure moral blackmail—she acted without even talking to him first. Her actions were extremely unpleasant.
But from Carol’s perspective, it was something she had to do. She had to ensure nothing went wrong and take every precaution.
However, Zhou Chen had a nagging feeling that something wasn’t quite right, though he couldn’t put his finger on what it was.
He paused briefly, retracting the Dream Light and Shadow. He looked at Danika, then at Carol, and said unhappily, "I understand you. From your perspective, you didn’t do anything wrong. But you didn’t consider things from my point of view. You didn’t consider my feelings. This is a blatant betrayal and moral blackmail."
"I’m sorry..." Danika, who had been kneeling the whole time, apologized in a low voice. "From now on, my life, my death, my everything belongs to you. I willingly offer myself as your slave... I am already a person with nothing left. The only thing I have to give is myself..."
Carol hesitated for a moment before raising her head and saying resolutely, "You can do anything you want to me!"
"Since you’re a master of the Spiritual Realm, you know I won’t do *that* kind of thing to you, nor will I make you my slaves."
Zhou Chen felt helpless. What could he do? Kill them to vent his anger? ’There’s no need for that. They’re both powerful fighters; they’re more useful alive.’ Or beat them up to let off some steam? ’No, that’s too low-brow.’ As for taking them as slaves, that would be courting death. He’d get a beatdown from multiple people when he got back...
’Carol probably did this precisely because she had him figured out.’
’However, a gentleman always gets his revenge. Just because I can’t get payback now doesn’t mean I can’t get it later.’
Danika and Carol suddenly noticed that Zhou Chen’s gaze had become pitiful. They waited quietly, but the expected fall of a blade never came.
"You thought I’d kill you to vent my anger? Heh, my revenge isn’t that simple or crude. I’m going to make you wish you were dead!"
Zhou Chen sneered. "After Gaia is unsealed, I want you to work sixteen hours a day. Your base salary will only be twenty-eight hundred a month, with no days off all year. You’ll have to work overtime on all public holidays, too!"
"..." The two of them were stunned for a good while. "Huh?"
"Don’t think it sounds easy. You’ll find out just how agonizing it is when the time comes!"
"O-Okay..."
"Get up. It’s time to go."
[Wish Points +10,000]
[Wish Points +50,000]
Danika and Carol knew that Zhou Chen had agreed to their plea, and their wish had been granted.
Zhou Chen glanced at his System Panel. His Wish Points had accumulated to around 310,000.
[You have left the prison cell...]
In the Sealing Room, Zhou Chen looked to his side. Danika had turned into a Spirit Body and returned to the ring, while Carol had followed him out. No restrictions had been placed on her; as long as the corruption on her body was Purified, she could unseal herself.
Zhou Chen pulled out his phone. The instant he connected to the network, countless messages popped up.
He scrolled through the messages, getting a general idea of the current situation.
Carol hadn’t been lying. Tang Ling had indeed been out of contact for two days, and the Abyssal Army had launched a massive war. The entire world of Gaia was now engulfed in the flames of battle.
As the Abyssal Power emanating from the Black Sun grew stronger, the Artificial Sun was gradually failing to resist the corruption. This not only strengthened the Abyssal Army across the board but also caused natural disasters to break out on Gaia once more. The situation was grim.
At that moment, starlight flickered around Carol, and her entire being transformed into a sparkling mote of light that drifted toward Zhou Chen.
[Shining Mote: The incarnation of Carol, the Star’s Chosen. She will become your teammate and travel with you.]
Zhou Chen opened his map and teleported back to the Satellite City.
A few seconds later, he appeared in the square of the Satellite City. It was now completely empty and desolate, without a single person in sight. The former hustle and bustle was gone, leaving the entire city as eerily quiet as a ghost town.
The Satellite City had entered the highest state of war. Anyone able to fight had been sent to the front lines, a clear sign of just how dire the situation had become.
Suddenly, a silver Magic Array lit up on the ground. It was Spatial Magic, capable of teleportation.
Zhou Chen stepped into the Magic Array. With a flash of light, he arrived in a bustling command room. Jiang Che was standing right in front of him.
[Wish Points +10]
"Where have you been?" Jiang Che asked with a frown.
"I was undercover in the Desecration Church when I heard news about an Abyssal Spirit so I ran off to find it killed two Abyssal Spirits then met the King of Gaia’s sister Carol she was corrupted into an Abyssal Spirit years ago but her sanity was awakened and she was sealed to fight the corruption and she pulled me into a spiritual trial which is why I was out of contact for five days." Zhou Chen explained his experience in a rapid-fire burst.
Carol and Danika appeared at the appropriate moment.
Despite his rapid pace, Jiang Che understood. She nodded knowingly. "So, how much do you know about the current situation?"
"I know the basics. What’s the situation with Tang Ling?"
Jiang Che pointed to a large screen. "The moment Tang Ling forced his way into the Final Holy Hall where the ’Abyssal Incarnation’ resides, our spatial lock on the hall completely failed. The Final Holy Hall sealed itself from the inside, trapping Tang Ling."
"It has now been 52 hours and 31 minutes. Tang Ling hasn’t been able to kill the ’Abyssal Incarnation’ or even break the seal. This is one of the worst-case scenarios."
"The boss shouldn’t be that strong, right?" Zhou Chen’s brows furrowed.
"No one knows what’s happening inside," Jiang Che said. "Right now, we can’t re-establish a spatial lock on the Final Holy Hall, so we can’t force it open. The only remaining method is to assemble the complete ’Desecration Emblem,’ but you, the one carrying a large number of ’Desecration Emblems,’ were also out of contact."
’I shouldn’t have collected so many Desecration Emblems...’ Zhou Chen complained inwardly, then said aloud, "Now that I’m back, can we complete the Desecration Emblem?"
"Yes, we’ve already found the remaining pieces... Don’t take them out here, it could interfere with command. The battle on the front lines is extremely intense... Alright, the spatial transport channel is ready. You two can go to the front," Jiang Che said to Carol and Danika.
A silver Magic Array lit up on the ground. The two of them nodded to Zhou Chen before stepping into it. With a flash of light, they vanished.
Zhou Chen retracted his gaze and looked at Jiang Che.
"Take me to the Divine Hall. I need to get the Sword of Ten Thousand Kings."
Jiang Che gave him a deep look, then nodded. "I’ll have the Desecration Emblems sent over as well."

Inside a pitch-black Holy Hall.
Space fluctuated violently as the fully-armed Godslaying Weapon descended.
At the far end of the Holy Hall, the lips of the figure on the throne curled slightly, revealing an enigmatic smile.
The moment Tang Ling arrived, he unleashed his full power. A brilliant solar flame erupted from his body, incinerating the deep Darkness within the Holy Hall. At the same time, countless Rules and Authorities were brought to bear against the enemy, while the terrifying figure on the throne launched a counterattack.
The great battle erupted. In just three short minutes, the ’Abyssal Incarnation’s’ health bar dropped to its last sliver.
But just then, everything began to reverse without warning. It all returned to its initial state.
Inside the pitch-black Holy Hall, space fluctuated violently as the fully-armed Godslaying Weapon descended.
The lips of the figure on the throne curled slightly, revealing an enigmatic smile.
Then, three minutes later, everything started over.
Tang Ling forced open the passage to the Final Holy Hall and descended into the world of Darkness.
As if pleased by some recent development, the dark figure on the throne’s lips curled slightly into a smile.
Three minutes later, the same scene replayed once more.
The entire space was constantly rewinding, constantly restarting. Neither Tang Ling nor the Abyssal Incarnation was aware of this. They endlessly repeated everything that had happened at the very beginning.
The timing of their attacks, the Skills they used, the Abilities they activated, the direction and distance of their dodges, even the gales that erupted and the rubble that flew... everything, including their own conditions, was identical to the first time.
