Chapter 650: Chapter 415: What to Do When an Elite BOSS Blocks the Door at the Start?
—Please select your class.
—Warrior, Samurai, Mage, Thief, Hunter, Useless People.
Zhou Chen focused his mind on the first class card. The card lit up, revealing the class’s specific attributes.
[Warrior]:
Physical Strength: 15
Intelligence: 9
Endurance: 12
Power: 14
Agility: 7
The Warrior class is a classic Power-based template. Its Physical Strength attribute is the highest among all the starting classes, and its Power and Endurance aren’t bad either. Warriors also start with equipment like Knight Armor, a Knight’s Great Shield, and a Knight’s Sword. With their high health and attack power, they are very forgiving, making them an excellent choice for a first class.
Zhou Chen continued looking.
[Samurai]:
Physical Strength: 11
Intelligence: 8
Endurance: 12
Power: 13
Agility: 15
The Samurai class is suitable for Power-Agility or pure Agility builds. Compared to the Warrior, its health is a bit lower, but its higher Agility provides more room for skillful play. Furthermore, the Samurai starts with a Longbow, a very practical weapon in the early game when ranged attack options are scarce.
Next was the [Mage]:
Physical Strength: 9
Intelligence: 16
Endurance: 9
Power: 8
Agility: 12
The Mage class has extremely high Intelligence, followed by Agility. It’s a great choice whether one goes for a pure Intelligence Mage build or an Intelligence-Agility Demon Swordsman build. The only problem is its other attributes are too low. In the early game, before acquiring any practical Magic Skills, Mages have very limited combat options. Combined with how squishy they are, they can easily get clawed to death by a random roadside mob, which hurts the gameplay experience.
[Thief]:
Physical Strength: 9
Intelligence: 9
Endurance: 10
Power: 10
Agility: 18
Compared to the previous classes, the Thief seems rather unremarkable. Its highest attribute is Agility, but it starts with two skills. One is called "Hand of Theft," which lets you get more loot from killed mobs and also allows for unnoticed theft in towns and strongholds. The other skill, "Stealth," silences your footsteps and conceals your form, making it perfect for assassinations or infiltration.
[Hunter]:
Physical Strength: 10
Intelligence: 12
Endurance: 10
Power: 12
Agility: 13
The Hunter class starts with two swords: a Steel Sword for fighting humans and a Silver Sword for slaying Demons. They also begin with an Encyclopedia Manual that records various monster weaknesses, herb uses, cooking ingredient effects, and more. On top of that, they have "Hunter’s Vision," an ability that lets them see enemy tracks and weak points.
Finally, the [Useless People]:
Physical Strength: 10
Intelligence: 10
Endurance: 10
Power: 10
Agility: 10
A classic class. All attributes are 10 points. You start with a loincloth and a club, and no special skills. It’s a class that only master players would attempt. For a novice, choosing this is pure torture.
Zhou Chen had already decided on the class that suited him. With a thought, he selected [Mage].
’If not for the physical enhancement from the Hammer of Forging and the melee abilities I’ve learned, based on my Extraordinary Abilities alone, I would be a pure Mage—squishy, but with high damage.’
In the game of Zone 009, players unlock their innate abilities upon reaching Level 10. The effectiveness of these personal Extraordinary Abilities is determined by their in-game Attribute Points.
If a Strength Type Ascender puts all their points into Intelligence in the game, their punches will be completely painless. If an Ascender of the Element or Spiritual Realms puts all their points into Power, their attacks will be just as feeble, like a gentle breeze.
’Therefore, I must choose the class that suits me best.’
After he selected the [Mage] class, the screen went dark. Zhou Chen’s consciousness sank along with it, plunging into a bottomless darkness.
·
An unknown amount of time passed before Zhou Chen awoke to find himself lying in a cave. A few pieces of fluorescent ore nearby emitted a faint glow, illuminating the surroundings.
He got up and inspected himself. He was wearing a set of mage’s robes and holding a crude wooden magic staff. Embedded in its top was a cloudy ruby, full of impurities.
’I’m in...’ Overcome with excitement, Zhou Chen opened the player panel.
His current appearance was displayed on the panel, with his attribute values below and the equipment slots to the side. The gear he had equipped was called "Magic Apprentice Robe" and "Magic Apprentice Staff." In his skill list, there were only two skills: "Lighting Technique" and "Fireball."
Zhou Chen then opened the map, but the screen was completely black. However, based on his current coordinates on the map, he could roughly determine that he was in the eastern part of Gaia.
’All my abilities are sealed...’
Zhou Chen checked again. His Extraordinary Abilities, Essence Armament, Forbidden Objects, Alchemy... even the Book of the Dead, the Hammer of Forging, and the Wish Bottle were all unusable. Even the Prayer System had temporarily crashed.
Only by reaching Level 10 in the game could he unlock these abilities.
’I should explore the area first. Gaia doesn’t have anything like a beginner’s tutorial; you have to figure everything out on your own. If someone actually made a game with zero guidance like this, they’d get absolutely flamed...’
As he thought about this, Zhou Chen began exploring the cave. He tapped the glowing ore with his Magic Staff, and to his surprise, a single strike caused a few cracks to appear on it.
’I can break it?’ Zhou Chen was surprised. He struck it a few more times, and with a loud CRACK, the large piece of ore shattered, and two fist-sized Fluorescent Stones fell to the ground.
Zhou Chen picked up the Fluorescent Stones, and they were stored in his Player Backpack as an item description appeared before his eyes.
