Chapter 422: Chapter 170: Victory

"Oh? Do you have a solution in mind?" Robson asked with a smile.

After a moment of silence, Chief Moer continued.

"Legend has it that my Mountain Rock Bear Race was originally a vassal race of the Night Elf Empire in the north...

However, the three great Elf Kingdoms are constantly at war with each other. They also have a penchant for the bloody slaughter of their vassal races. For that reason, my ancestors, along with several other races, broke through the mountain passes and came to the Beastman Empire.

Each of our races has a Druidic tradition. Over the years, we have gathered often to discuss Druid Magic..."

Chief Moer recounted the story, his thick, bearish face showing an unnatural expression as he spoke.

The Bear Race had always been synonymous with honesty, but Chief Moer was now betraying his friends in exchange for Robson’s support.

But he had no choice. When he thought of his kinsmen, Moer knew he had to do it.

Robson nodded.

The Elves of this world were not some peace-loving creatures who spent their days playing music and singing.

The continent was divided into the Southern Continent and Northern Continent, with the Endless Desert at its center. Humans were the dominant power on the Southern Continent, while the Elves held dominion over the Northern Continent.

Human records on the Elves were scarce. All Robson knew was that there were three great Elf kingdoms that had been warring with one another for thousands of years over religious differences. Each time one kingdom was on the verge of unification, the other two would somehow rise again, maintaining a constant three-way stalemate.

The Elves’ combat prowess was formidable. It was this strength that had deterred the previous Knight King, who hadn’t dared to commit his full army to annihilating the Beastman Empire.

Of course, this had nothing to do with Robson for now.

"In that case, I’ll have to trouble you for an introduction when the time comes," Robson said with a smile.

「...」

While Robson conversed with Moer, the battlefield on the other side still roared with the thunderous cries of war.

The Centaur and Mountain Rock Bear Race formations had separated.

Following Robson’s earlier orders, Valentino led the main army in a charge toward the densest concentration of Centaurs.

After the recent artillery bombardment, they had already lost all formation. When the Heavy Cavalry arrived, they offered only a token resistance before scattering in all directions.

The Mountain Rock Bear Race, meanwhile, was still in a state of confusion. Many of the clan’s elders stepped forward to rally their scattered people, and the confusion lasted until Robson arrived with Chief Moer.

After Chief Moer’s explanation, the Mountain Rock Bear Race Warriors simply looked at one another, not yet fully grasping the sudden turn of events.

’How could their mortal enemy suddenly be helping them defend their homes?’

However, since the Chieftain had ordered a ceasefire, they had no objections.

As for betraying the Beastman Empire to befriend humans, would they harbor any reservations?

For that, one would have to look at the full story of the Mountain Rock Bear Race’s departure from the Beastman Empire. Their hatred for the Empire ran far deeper than any animosity they held toward humans.

In fact, if Robson were to give the order, they would turn around and attack Julian City at a moment’s notice.

The battlefield situation continued to develop as planned.

After breaking the Centaurs’ lines, the Fengman Knight Order and Robson’s Heavy Cavalry Corps herded the scattered enemy toward Julian City, aiming to demoralize its defenders.

The results were significant. When the routed army rushed to the foot of Julian City’s walls and begged Chief Liete to open the gates, the entire city was in an uproar.

To add a cruel psychological blow, Robson had the Mountain Rock Bear Race form up and parade just outside the city.

The morale in Julian City had already been low, but after this move by Robson, it plummeted.

Seeing this, Chief Liete instantly understood everything: Hall was defeated, and the Mountain Rock Bear Race had turned traitor. The realization was too much; he fainted from sheer rage.

With Chief Liete unconscious, the city’s defending commander was left in a difficult position. Fearing the humans would follow the routed troops and storm the city, he dared not act on his own authority. All he could do was tell the defeated army outside the walls to wait for the Chieftain to regain consciousness.

「...」

The fighting lasted until nightfall. With the siege preparations proceeding in an orderly manner under Baron Boyang’s command, Robson summoned the various nobles and officers to his tent.

They had just won a resounding and decisive victory.

To have eliminated tens of thousands of enemies in a single day and night was a source of great pride, even if they had only been goblins.

Robson’s prestige had reached its peak, and his orders were met with enthusiastic obedience.

Robson was quite satisfied with their attitude.

This battle was his first as Lord Robson, leader of the Military Commission. It was also the first clash between humans and Beastmen on the Eastern Front. At stake was not only Lord Robson’s own power and position, but the morale for the entire war on the Eastern Front.

Fortunately, they had gotten off to a good start, annihilating the enemy with overwhelming force.

"My lord," Bo Yang began, "who is this standing beside you?"

Robson had brought Chief Moer with him,

A giant, three-meter-tall bear built like an iron tower was difficult to ignore.

"This is Chief Moer. His race, like ours, has long been oppressed by the Beastman Empire.

They were once enslaved by the Beastman Empire, but now they have abandoned the darkness for the light and chosen to join us," Robson said.

Hearing this, the assembled nobles looked at one another in confusion.

’Join us? Was that even possible?’

Humans and the Beastman Empire had been fighting for hundreds of years, but never had anyone heard of a human lord recruiting another race into their army.

This was where Robson’s prestige began to play its part.

Faced with such an unprecedented move, the others were merely bewildered, but no one voiced any objections.

’The lord must have his reasons. We should just follow his lead and enjoy the rewards. What’s the point of questioning it?’

"Bo Yang, I have something I need to take care of. I’ll be away for a few days.

You’ll be in charge of the siege operations for the next few days.

Earl Uman, Bo Yang is still inexperienced. If he makes any mistakes, I hope you will offer him some guidance," Robson said with a smile.

’Robson was now quite glad he had singled out Bo Yang for special training.’

’Now, Bo Yang had made some decent accomplishments and could handle simple military matters with ease.’

Bo Yang was quite excited to hear the order and accepted it on the spot.

Earl Uman was also quite surprised; he hadn’t expected Robson to ask him to play second fiddle to a Baron.

But considering his own past battle record, it was understandable. He didn’t hesitate for long before nodding in agreement.

Robson nodded.

"For the next few days, I just need you to continue the bombardment. Don’t concern yourselves with anything else."

After speaking, Robson looked at Claude and Ais.

"I will be marching out with Earl Fengman. The two of you will gather the Cavalry Team, as well as some elites from the First and Second Corps, and come with me.

Rest for the night. We set out tomorrow morning. Understood?" Robson said.

Robson’s soldiers were, after all, mostly mortals. After fighting for a whole day and night, they had to rest.

The two nodded in affirmation.

After the meeting ended, Robson made further arrangements for the night’s defenses.

Though they had just won a great victory, Robson didn’t forget that there were still over ten thousand fresh Centaurs inside the city who had not yet fought.

’What if they were just feigning weakness during the day? As a competent Commander-in-Chief, he had to consider every possibility.’

Early the next morning, the designated units were already assembled.

In the quiet dawn, with few words spoken, Robson gave the order, and the army immediately marched out.
