Chapter 416: Chapter 164: Chaotic Battle Outside the City

"The enemy! The enemy is charging!"

"What an imposing presence!"

A cloud of dust billowed before the Beastman Military Array, the thundering of hooves sounding as if it were right beside them.

As expected of the Fengman Knight Order.

A few hundred Cavalry, yet they charged with the might of an army of tens of thousands.

Even as dusk fell, the dull senses of the earth goblins were still profoundly shaken by the Fengman Knights.

"Chieftain! It’s too late! You have to go!"

The Personal Guard on either side swallowed hard at the sight. Who would even think of fighting these humans?

No one was a fool. Though the earth goblins outnumbered the human Cavalry several times over, anyone with eyes could see the massive army following behind them.

Even if they wanted to fight to the death, relying on their superior numbers, it was completely hopeless.

"Quick! Formations! Where are the enforcers?"

Ignoring his subordinates’ pleas, Chief Liete tried to continue commanding the earth goblins.

On the human side, however, the Fengman Clan’s five hundred Extraordinary Heavy Cavalry were followed by five hundred Ordinary Heavy Cavalry and five hundred Light Cavalry.

Faced with such a fearsome charge, many earth goblins slowed, their movements becoming sluggish. If not for the enforcers at their side constantly threatening them, they would have already fled. How could they possibly heed Chief Liete’s commands?

Seeing this, Chief Liete had no choice but to temporarily retreat.

Of course, retreating meant only temporarily avoiding the brunt of the human Heavy Cavalry’s charge, not leaving the battlefield entirely.

With tens of thousands of Beastman Soldiers outside Julian City, even if they couldn’t rout the enemy, there was still some hope of forcing a retreat.

"Get those goblins to surround them from the flanks! Speed!"

"Quickly!"

....

"For the kingdom! For Fengman!"

On the other side, Valentino, fully clad in armor and radiating combat aura, led the charge. With a Knight’s Spear couched in one arm and a Knight’s Sword raised in the other, she cried out.

"For Fengman! I am—"

"For Fengman!"

Behind Valentino, hundreds of Fengman Knights followed their Lord, charging forward without fear of death.

"For Affleck!"

"Victory belongs to Affleck!"

Seemingly infected by the fervor, Claude and his men, leading their Cavalry Team behind the Fengman Knight Order, also began to roar.

At that moment, Valentino had no mind for such things.

The Holy Water given to the front-rank earth goblins had taken effect. Wielding iron clubs and other crude weapons, they charged with bloodshot eyes, holding nothing back.

Behind this frenzied mob of earth goblins were even more Beastman Soldiers, their madness spreading through the ranks.

"Charge!"

With a cry, Valentino relied on years of martial training and plunged directly into the earth goblin formation before her.

Valentino’s lack of military strategy didn’t mean she couldn’t lead soldiers. As the heir painstakingly groomed by the Fengman Clan, she was more than capable of leading a charge of several hundred men.

The Fengman Knights followed close behind their Patriarch.

"ROAR!"

Backed by Extraordinary Knights and heavy plate armor, even the drugged earth goblins in the front rank couldn’t resist. They were simply ground into paste beneath the thundering hooves.

The drugged earth goblins were a minority, and it wasn’t long before they had all gone to meet the Beast God.

"Run! We’re no match for them at all!"

"Scatter! Scatter now, or it’ll be too late!"

Heavy Cavalry are the perfect tool for shattering formations.

Let alone military elites like the Fengman Clan’s forces; even Robson’s Mortal Cavalry Corps could break through any line they were pointed at.

How could this disorganized mob of earth goblins possibly be a match for them?

Before long, earth goblins were breaking ranks, crying as they fled.

Such was the terror of a thousand-strong Heavy Cavalry.

...

While the Knight Order was locked in a heated battle at the front, Robson had, at some point, made his way to a high peak to observe the state of the battlefield.

It wasn’t that Robson didn’t want to take to the skies on Huang Na or Everton. The key was that this wasn’t a minor skirmish of a few thousand people like in the past. This was a true war, a battle involving tens of thousands!

There was no telling what tricks the enemy might have up their sleeves. If he fell from a thousand meters in the air, even if he survived, he’d be half-dead.

Besides, in a battle of tens of thousands, the situation could change in a flash. Smooth, responsive command was of the utmost importance. If he, Robson, flew into the sky, his Soldiers on the ground would be lost. A single delayed reaction could lead to incalculable losses.

For instance, Robson could now see that even though his Cavalry had shattered the earth goblin mob, clouds of dust were now billowing on both flanks of the engagement.

Two massive armies, each ten thousand strong, were closing in to encircle his Cavalry.

If they succeeded, his Cavalry, who had charged in so easily, would have to pay a heavy price to get back out.

"Signal the First and Second Regiments. Move out immediately!"

Robson turned to the adjutant at his side. It wasn’t Ais, but a newly promoted man named Orc, who was known for being honest and reliable.

In a crucial battle like this, Ais was, of course, personally leading the First Regiment. Bo Yang had been assigned to the new army, taking Robson’s old veterans with him.

"As you command!"

Orc acknowledged the order and departed at once.

Before long, the sound of horns echoed across the battlefield, one call answering another.

....

"Horns! The signal to attack! Get ready!"

"Steady the chariot frames! Move!"

Upon receiving the order to attack, the First Regiment made its final preparations in an instant.

Soon, the horns from their own regimental command sounded as well.

"For our Lord! Victory belongs to Affleck!"

The order came down, and Hans was the first to rise.

The CRACK of a whip, followed by the sharp neigh of a horse, cut through the air.

Hans’s target was the force of ten thousand goblins and other unknown races approaching from the west.

Robson had left the earth goblins entirely to Claude and Valentino.

’A thousand Heavy Cavalry, all of them elites. Surely they could handle a mob of earth goblins?’

Hans gripped his long spear, his eyes fixed on the path ahead.

Even though the view ahead was an endless sea of enemies.

But Hans felt no fear—only a burning desire for military glory!

The path of their charge was clear, with no obstacles to slow them down.

In no time, Hans spotted the enemy ahead: a disorganized rabble of goblins.

Seeing that they were only weak goblins, Hans didn’t feel excitement, but a pang of disappointment. After all, there was little glory to be won from killing goblins.

"The time to earn glory is now!

Charge!"

"For our Lord!"

As the chariot convoy was about to clash with the enemy, the soldiers around him roared their battle cries.

Unwilling to be outdone, Hans spurred his horse to the front of the formation.

"Victory belongs to Affleck!"

The goblins finally collided with the human chariot formation. The moment they saw it, they were all dumbfounded.

’They’re already short, and the humans are up on chariots? How are we supposed to fight this? This is just bullying, isn’t it?’
