Chapter 95: Chapter 95: The Second Female Doctor

Besides Hui Zi, two other guys in the group chat also said they wanted a consultation.

They were clearly in less of a hurry than Hui Zi and weren’t willing to pay upfront, so Zhang Zhe didn’t pay them much mind.

Even though they were all in the same group chat, it was obvious some were closer to Old Bai than others, which affected how much they trusted Zhang Zhe.

「The next morning, before the livestream.」

Zhang Zhe was in one of the matchmaking agency’s rooms getting ready when suddenly, a middle-aged woman with permed, curly hair knocked on the window from outside, signaling for him to open the door.

He didn’t recognize the woman.

But anyone who could get to the door of this conference room had to be an employee of the agency.

Zhang Zhe tidied up the materials on his desk before going to open the door.

"Hello there, Zhang Zhe." The middle-aged woman beamed, shaking his hand. "Let me introduce myself. I’m a Gold Matchmaker, Jiang Qi. Everyone calls me Sister Qi."

"Hello, Sister Qi."

"Here, please have a seat." Hearing she was a Gold Matchmaker, Zhang Zhe was quite respectful. That rank was considered mid-level at the agency, skilled enough to host large-scale matchmaking events.

"Did you need something from me?"

"Of course I do. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have come looking for a busy man like you."

"You’re quite the celebrity at our agency now." Sister Qi smiled, clutching her shoulder bag to her chest and pulling out a piece of paper. "This is a match Boss He asked me to find for you."

"Take a look. This girl is a great catch. She has a Ph.D. from a 985 university and used to study in Shenghai."

"She’s back in Qing City to build her career now. Her family, income, every aspect is excellent."

"A blind date for me?" Zhang Zhe didn’t take the file. "I’m sorry, Sister Qi, but I’m seeing someone right now."

"We’re already dating."

"That’s fine. You can pursue both at the same time. Compare them and pick the most suitable one."

"I’d rather not," Zhang Zhe said, shaking his head. "I really don’t have the time to date two people at once. How about this? Have her come to my livestream, and I’ll chat with her there."

"Chat on the stream? That doesn’t seem right. It feels a little disrespectful to the girl."

"Really? Then let’s just forget about it," Zhang Zhe politely declined. "The person I’m dating now, she actually had her blind date with me on the livestream."

"I’m a matchmaking streamer. If a girl has a prejudice against livestreaming, then we’re probably not a good fit."

"She definitely doesn’t have any prejudice, you can rest assured about that."

"A livestream blind date..." Sister Qi bit her lower lip, then nodded. "I suppose that could work. I’ll have her come find you in a bit."

"You should look at her profile first."

"Alright, thanks, Sister Qi!"

"And please thank Boss He for me. She’s so reliable."

Zhang Zhe hurriedly thanked her. The fact that she was willing to accommodate a request like a livestream blind date was impressive. ’As expected of a Gold Matchmaker.’

Boss He was a real one, too.

Zhang Zhe thought she had forgotten about her promise to help him find a match.

"You don’t need to thank me, and you don’t need to thank Old He," Sister Qi said, pointing to the profile she’d given him. "Just do your best on the blind date with the girl."

"Don’t worry, I’ll give it 100% of my effort."

...

After Sister Qi left, Zhang Zhe glanced at the profile.

He’d only read two lines before he sucked in a sharp breath.

’Is Sister Qi serious?’

The woman was born in ’93, making her 32. She had an annual income of over 200,000, had never been married and had no children, and was a Ph.D. in engineering from a 985 university...

Most people would take one look at "female Ph.D." and stop considering her.

Zhang Zhe wasn’t most people, so he read on.

And then, he confirmed that he was out of her league.

Having aced his way out of a small town himself, Zhang Zhe admired anyone with the courage to pursue a doctorate in engineering. Studying was truly a grueling affair.

Unless you were born to do research, getting an engineering Ph.D. was more torturous than facing the wall in contemplation on Siguoya.

A woman like that might be a top performer at work.

But when it came to marriage and life... she had zero appeal.

This was the stereotype for engineering students.

But it was also often the reality.

When a person spends most of the first half of their life in a lab, it’s like they’ve opened the door to scientific research, which means other doors have naturally swung shut.

Although Zhang Zhe felt they weren’t a good match, he was still willing to do an analysis for her if she joined the voice chat. He couldn’t let her show up for nothing.

Sister Qi must have hurried her along. Just as Zhang Zhe started his stream, he saw the Ph.D. woman sending a bullet comment:

[Zhang Zhe, Sister Qi sent me here for a blind date with you.]

"You’re Shanshan, right?" Zhang Zhe pointed to the bottom-right corner of the screen. "Go ahead and request to join the chat, and we can talk."

[The streamer is having his own blind date online?]

[What is this? Taking the absurdity to real life?]

[Brother Zhang is something else.]

[Does the streamer just open his eyes and start streaming every day? No wonder he’s 30 and still not married.]

"Hello, hi there."

"Hello," said the woman who joined the chat. Her name was Chen Shanshan. "Do I need to turn on my camera?"

"No, no, that’s not necessary. I’ve already seen your photo."

"You’ve seen my profile, right?"

"Mhm, I’ve seen it."

"Then let’s get started." Zhang Zhe preferred to take the lead. "I have a bit of an occupational hazard, so I’ll probably be leading this blind date. Sorry about that."

"No problem at all. I prefer it when the other person takes the lead."

"Okay, I’ll ask the first question. Your current annual income is 200,000. What are your expectations for my annual income?"

"I think as long as it’s higher than mine, it’s fine."

"Give me a specific number. What are you hoping for?" Zhang Zhe asked, pressing for details.

’I might as well help her figure out her positioning in the dating market while I’m at it.’

"Maybe... 500,000!"

"Thank you." Zhang Zhe put his hands together in front of the camera. "Thank you for thinking so highly of me, but who am I to be earning 500,000 a year?"

"You don’t?" The woman sounded surprised. "But the Matchmaker told me that a Matchmaker at your level could easily make four or five hundred thousand a year, no problem."

"I’m not like a regular Matchmaker," Zhang Zhe explained. "My income is really just at the level of a small-time streamer."

[The streamer finally admits he’s not a ’proper’ one.]

[What are this woman’s qualifications? Demanding 500k right off the bat?]

[Feels like another one who’s here to make a wish.]

Seeing the viewers in the chat starting to question the woman, Zhang Zhe stepped in to explain:

"The woman I’m chatting with right now has a Ph.D. from a 985 university. She’s extremely accomplished. If she went to a big tech company in Shencheng City, she’d have a chance at a million-yuan salary."

"Her income requirement isn’t outrageous."

"But I really can’t meet it."

"It’s okay, a little lower is fine," the woman amended. "If that’s not possible, then the same as me is also acceptable."

"Hm? No, that won’t work!"

"How can you just lower your standards?"

"You can’t just lower them casually!" Zhang Zhe looked at the camera very seriously and said, "You need to think this through. What conditions do you truly require in a man?"

"You can think of a man’s attributes as a hexagon."

"If the 500,000 income requirement can be lowered, your other dimensions have to be raised. Otherwise, your whole model is flawed."

"I see. Now that you put it that way, I get it." The woman sounded like she genuinely understood. She replied seriously, "For 200,000, then he’d have to be young and handsome."

"Then you’re essentially looking for a younger man."

"Yes, you could put it that way."

"Guys like that exist, but they won’t marry you," Zhang Zhe said with brutal honesty. "A young, handsome guy with a decent job—the only reason he’d be with you is to show off your degree to his social circle."

"Then I’ll stick with the 500,000 requirement. I won’t ask for young and handsome."

"That’s also findable," Zhang Zhe nodded. "But there are way too many men who meet that condition. Balding, divorced, with kids—do you want any of those?"

"Huh?" the woman asked in disbelief. "Even if you don’t think I’m your type, you can’t just recommend men like that, can you?"
